The free kick is sent short to Stocker who dribbles towards the corner ad wins another foul. The referee says enough is enough and blows the full-time whistle!
90' +3
This one is about all said and done. Salzburg struggling to get anything going in attack. Basel defending every ball played in. It's played forward for Streller who holds it up so well, winning a free kick.
90' +1
C. Leitgeb gets yellow.
This time Leitgeb clips Degen and he's shown a yellow card. He will miss the next match, although it's not looking likely there will be a next match for Salzburg at the moment.
90'
Five minutes of added time, which has to be somewhat encouraging for the home side. Basel are keeping possession well at the moment, winning endless throw-ins and free kicks.
88'
P. Degen gets yellow.
B. Embolo enters the game and replaces A. Ajeti.
Salzburg look like they may have accepted their fate here. There's no urgency in their play. Ramahlo commits a foul and Basel have a free kick in their own half.
86'
Alan gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
BAD TO WORSE FOR SALZBURG! Alan tries a bicycle kick, and looks to have clipped the head of Philipp Degen who goes down in a heap. The Brazilian is shown a second yellow card and the hosts are down to 10-men! It's a harsh decision by the referee, as Alan was making an honest effort at goal.
84'
ALAN! The Brazilian is sent through on goal by Mane but puts his shot straight at Sommer! The hosts are running out of time and can't afford to be wasteful. Ajeti goes down and more precious time is being run off the clock by the visitors.
83'
M. Meilinger enters the game and replaces D. Švento.
82'
STAT ATTACK: Basel are in the midst of a 12-match unbeaten run, having not lost a competitive match since December 11.
80'
GREAT SAVE SOMMER! The Swiss keeper reacts brilliantly to dive across and turn away a powerful strike from Alan. The Brazilian did well with his shot, but may have been wise to pass off as he has Soriano and Kampl making runs on either side.
Minute
Description
78'
V. Berisha enters the game and replaces Soriano.
André Ramalho gets yellow.
Basel booting the ball up the pitch whenever they have a chance, in the direction of Streller, who is winning everything in the air. Salzburg bring on yet another striker as they grow desperate to find these two goals.
76'
Frustration beginning to set in now for Salzburg. Ramahlo tries to win a ball back, but catches the ankle of the Basel player who remains down to kill time.
74'
Kampl and Soriano work a one-two, but the Spaniard's return pass is poor and Basel have the opportunity to break. Streller sends a ball for Stocker to chase, but Gulasci comes way out of his net to boot it back up the pitch.
72'
R. Žulj enters the game and replaces S. Ilsanker.
Not much of a choice here for Roger Schmidt as he brings on another striker, with Ilsanker the one to give way. Zulj started the first leg but couldn't pose much of a threat on the Basel goal.
70'
SORIANO! Again the Spaniard misses what should have been a sure equalizer! The ball is played in by Kampl, right to the feet of Soriano who opts to have a touch first. His first touch runs far, and he can't get enough on the shot to beat Sommer.
68'
Basel are making it very difficult for Salzburg to find a way through. They have everyone behind the ball, keeping the hosts around the perimeter. Yakin's substitutions really seem to be paying off so far.
66'
REMEMBER: Basel's two away goals means Salzburg can only advance with a WIN here tonight. A draw is not enough for the hosts.
65'
Salzburg win a corner now, but it's defended well by Basel. The clearance from Sommer is out to Ilsanker who lays off for Leitgeb, but his shot curls away from goal and the attack fizzles out.
63'
So nearly a third for Basel! Salzburg look shell shocked here! Stocker sends wonderful ball in for Streller, but his touch takes it just wide of the far post. The visitors have new life, while Salzburg seem to have had the wind taken out of their sails.
62'
Rodnei gets yellow.
60'
G. Sauro has scored a goal for Basel!
Streller does very well now to win a corner kick, showing his experience up top. Basel just starting to grow in confidence.
GOAAAAAAAL! Again from a corner kick, and Gaston Sauro flips this tie on its head! Gulasci misses the punch, leaving his goal exposed, and Ajeti heads back across goal to Sauro who beats Ilsanker to the ball and heads into the empty net. It's 2-1 Basel on aggregate now, with two all important away goals!
58'
T. Xhaka enters the game and replaces G. Sio.
Murat Yakin bringing on another defender now, as Sio comes off for Xhaka. The Swiss side will do everything they can to defend this scoreline, but there may be too much time still for them to sit back and allow themselves to be put under relentless pressure.
57'
KLEIN! The right-back runs forward to get on the end of an errant pass, but sees his shot deflected just wide. The ensuing corner results in something of a scramble inside the box, but Mane puts the final shot over the bar as he's falling backwards.
56'
Salzburg are still in control of the match as far as possession is concerned, but Basel seem inspired after Streller's equalizer.
54'
A. Ajeti gets yellow.
Alan gets yellow.
Quite the coming together now between players from both teams, following Ajeti's yellow card after head-butting Alan. The Basel defender came together with the Brazilian after a collision, but Alan seemed to make the most of what little contact may have been made. Ajeti is absolutely furious with Alan's reaction, and has to be restrained by teammates before he picks up a second sending off here.
51'
GOAAAAAAAAL! Completely against the run of play, it's Marco Streller who beats his marker Soriano cleanly off a corner kick, sending his powerful header into the top corner and past a helpless Gulasci. Basel back in it now!
50'
M. Streller has scored a goal for Basel! Assist by F. Frei.
49'
Ramalho shows his quality in defence to stop Streller from breaking. The striker perhaps showing his age there as he looked out of his depth getting into a foot race with the Brazilian centre-back.
47'
SORIANO MISSES A SITTER! Unbelievable! The competition's leading scorer has been very wasteful tonight. Kampl and Mane expose Basel along the right with some beautiful passing. Mane's final ball is played across the face of goal to an unmarked Soriano who can't hit the target with Sommer beaten!
46'
Basel kick-off and the second half is underway. Their task may seem a bit daunting, but a draw would be enough to see them through.
45' +4
Degen back up again works a nice one-two with Stocker and sees his final shot deflect just over the bar! So close from Basel as the referee blows his half-time whistle.
45' +3
Great move forward from Basel! Philipp Degen finds plenty of space along the right, picks out Stocker who tries to set up Streller at the top of the box but Ilsanker beats him to it.
45' +2
The hosts are back in attack, without many men in support, so Alan has a go from 25 yards out, sending his shot miles over the bar. The Brazilian hasn't looked quite up to speed with the rest of his teammates during the first half.
45' +1
Salzburg make a mess of things inside their penalty area. Ramalho and Rodnei can't clear, allowing Streller to pick up the lose ball and fire into an empty net, but a foul is called and it won't count. The whistle sounded long before the ball was put into the net.
45'
Basel make their substitution as 20-year-old Macedonian defender Naser Aliji is on to replace the dismissed Mark Suchy. David Degen is the one to give way.
44'
N. Aliji enters the game and replaces D. Degen.
Great job by Basel on the counter. Stocker shows his skill beating two defenders before picking out David Degen. He dances around outside the edge of the box, winning a free kick after a tackle from Rodnei. The opportunity is wasted, however, as the final shot is blocked, never threatening the goal.
42'
Giovanni Sio is shown a yellow card now, meaning he will miss the next match if Basel were to advance.
39'
Sauro and Sommer with some miscommunication now, as the Argentinian's poor back pass puts his keeper under a lot of pressure, eventually giving the ball away. Kampl works himself into a dangerous area and crosses in for Svento. His mishits his shot, sending it miles wide.
38'
G. Sio gets yellow.
37'
The stoppage has really seemed to slow the pace of the match. It's being played largely in midfield at the moment, with Salzburg comfortably keeping possession.
35'
Mane causing all sorts of problems for Philipp Degen. He's so eager to chase down every ball, and his never say die attitude has won Salzburg two fouls in quick succession, this one from a promising area for a cross. The delivery from Kampl is poor, however, and it's out for a goal kick.
33'
Basel work it forward well and win a corner kick. Stocker delivers a nice ball in but Gulasci is out well to fist it away. Salzburg break on the counter, and Mane wins a foul.
31'
The players are back out, the referee checks his watch and we're back underway here at the Red Bull Arena. Kampl finally takes the corner kick, and it eventually falls to Soriano who skews his shot just wide of the far post.
30'
There's a lengthy delay now as Basel fans continue their disruptive behavior, littering the pitch and taking aim at Salzburg players. The referee blows a halt to the match as it is deemed an unsafe environment. Marco Streller goes over to talk to fans, with a rye smile on his face, to no avail. The players evacuate the pitch and head down the tunnel now. We'll see how long it is before order can be restored.
STAT ATTACK: The goal for Jonathan Soriano was his eighth in the competition, to lead all players. Meanwhile, Kevin Kampl picked up his fifth assist on that same goal, tying him for most in the competition with the already eliminated Bibras Natkho of Rubin Kazan.
Still no word on when play will resume. Salzburg fans seem hardly bother by the stoppage, as they continue to sing and dance in full force, keeping themselves entertained throughout this delay.
28'
FANTASTIC SAVE FROM SOMMER! Mane is clean through on goal, and tries to slot it far post, but some excellent reactions from the goalkeeper allow him to just get enough of the effort to send it wide and prevent Salzburg from doubling his lead.
26'
There's a slight delay in taking the corner now, as the Basel fans are causing a scene near the corner flag. Kampl is forced to step away from the ball before Marco Streller comes over and relays a message to the traveling fans to settle down.
24'
KLEIN! The right-back is relentless for Salzburg here in the first half! This time he runs at two Basel defenders, flowing with confidence. He has a go from 25 yards out and forces a really nice save from Sommer, who palms it out for a corner kick.
22'
Soriano has scored a goal for Salzburg! Assist by K. Kampl.
GOAAAAAAAAAAL! It's a brilliantly worked goal from Salzburg, capped off by Jonathan Soriano. Florian Klein chases down a ball rolling towards the touch-line, just keeping it in play with the Basel players standing and staring. He passes it off for Kampl who picks out a superb cross for Soriano who really couldn't miss at the far post.
21'
Another turnover allows Philipp Degen to break, and he forces Svento into another foul. The midfielder showing his class and experience keeping the ball forward and killing time in the attacking half.
19'
Basel push forward on the counter and Philipp Degen wins a free kick in a promising position. Stocker delivers it into a very dangerous area, and Sauro's header is just deflected over the bar!
17'
Basel have seemed to settle in since the sending off, staying more disciplined in defence, making life difficult on Salzburg at the moment as they look to find the first goal of this round of 16 cup tie.
15'
STAT ATTACK: The Red Bulls have had the most shots on (68) and off target (60) in this season's competition.
13'
Leitgeb works it out to Mane along the left, who seems to be at the spearhead of every Salzburg attack thus far. He wins a throw and takes it quickly, but an errant pass eventually sees the ball into the waiting arms of Yann Sommer.
11'
KAMPL MISSES A SITTER! The ball is worked wonderfully through to Mane, who selflessly sends the ball across the face of goal to Kampl who scuffs his attempt and fails to tap into the empty net. Basel on the ropes here.
9'
M. Streller gets yellow.
M. Suchý goes off after a red card!
RED CARD! It's the lone centre-back Marek Suchy who catches Alan on the break coming in very hard from behind. The German referee didn't hesitate in making his decision, but it may be just a bit harsh so early on here. Certainly a bad tackle from Suchy, however, and Basel's task becomes that much harder.
Marco Streller picks up a yellow as well in protest
7'
Svento runs into a good attacking position and despite turning it over, creates plenty of space outside the box for Kampl. He eventually receives the ball and tries to pick out the top corner, but sends his curling effort just inches wide! One way traffic early on here.
5'
Less than a minute later and Mane is played through. Suchy applies just enough pressure on the Senegal forward to force a rushed shot that flies a few feet wide of the post. Salzburg look very threatening in the early stages.
4'
ALAN! Great move from Salzburg as they push forward with pace. Kampl lays off for Leitgeb who sends in a beautiful cross for Alan. The Brazilian completely eluded his marker Ajeti, but sent his header onto the roof of the net.
2'
The hosts win a free kick early on as Alan is fouled along the left. They opt to play it short instead of crossing it in, and end up passing it out of play as Basel take over in possession.
1'
Salzburg kick-off and we're underway at the Red Bull Arena! The home side, moving right to left, are wearing their white tops and red shorts. Basel are sporting their classic blue and red kits.
Everything is up for grabs in today's second leg at the Red Bull Arena. A scoreless draw in Switzerland has provided both teams with reason for optimism heading into tonight's reverse fixture. I'm Alex Moretto and I'll be your in-game host, guiding you through the match LIVE as it happens!
The draw in the first leg was only a minor blemish in an otherwise perfect run for Salzburg since late November. The Austrian outfit have victories in 17 of 18 since November 25, with a 0-0 draw in Switzerland the only match they have failed to win. It was also the first Europa League match in which they didn't manage a victory, after running through the group stage with a 6-0 record, and beating Dutch giants Ajax in both legs of their round of 32 tie. Another victory here today would send them into the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 1994.
Basel could really use an away goal. While they were unable to manage a win at St. Jacob's Park, they did keep a clean sheet, a rather impressive feat considering their opponents stellar scoring record coming into the match. A goal from the away side today would force Salzburg to win the match, which won't be easy, considering the Swiss outfit haven't lost a competitive fixture since December 11, a 2-0 defeat at Schalke in their final Champions League group stage match, a run of 12 games – and excluding the first leg draw, Basel have been shutout only once during that stretch.
The coaches have named their starting XIs, with some noteable changes from both sides, so let us have a look!
Coach Roger Schmidt has instilled three changes into his starting XI from the first leg. The suspended Martin Hinteregger is replaced by Brazilian Rodnei at CB, while Alan returns up top, forcing Zulj to the bench. The other change sees Florian Klein get the start at right-back in place of the injured Christian Schwelger.
BASEL XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Ajeti, Suchy, Sauro; P. Degen, Frei, Stocker, El Nenny, D. Degen; Sio, Streller.
Murat Yakin is fighting fire with fire, putting forth a very attack minded starting XI tonight for Basel. The suspended Serey Die is replaced by Mohamed El Nenny in midfield, while Marco Streller replaces the injured Matias Delgato at striker.
STAT ATTACK: Salzburg have played four games against Swiss clubs in UEFA competition, winning twice at home (lost both in Switzerland).
The players shake hands as we get set to start this cracking second leg tie! Salzburg have high hopes for what they can achieve, but they will first have to get by the reigning semi-finalists.
FIRST-HALF: SALZBURG 1-0 BASEL. The hosts set the tempo with a lively start that Basel didn't seem prepared to deal with. Suchy's sending off seemed to further inspire the hosts who have looked comfortable and confident through the opening 45 minutes. Soriano's goal has the hosts in front as they look to book their place in the quarter-finals.
STAT ATTACK: Salzburg have scored at least three goals in each of their last eight competitive matches at the Red Bull Arena. They have 37 goals in that span, netting close to five per game.
FULL-TIME: SALZBURG 1-2 BASEL. It's a tale of two halves from the Red Bull Arena. After starting the game so poorly, the visitors rally in the second half thanks to goals from Marco Streller and Gaston Sauro to send a shocked and dejected Salzburg side out of the competition.
With their improbable victory, Basel will make their second consecutive appearance in the Europa League quarter-final.
I'm Alex Moretto and I'd like to thank you all for joining me here today. Good bye!
