Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the World Cup qualifying clash between Slovenia and England.
The big news from the England camp concerns of course captain Wayne Rooney and Gareth Southgate's decision to drop the 30-year-old this evening. The armband has passed to Liverpool's Jordan Henderson, who will lead the Three Lions out tonight in the Stadion Stozice.
The Three Lions put in a stuttering performance against Malta in their clash on Saturday. Although they recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory, Southgate will want to see more from his team in his second game in charge as England to open up a gap at the top of Group F.
A win for Slovenia tonight could see them surpass England at the top of the group, meaning that there is a lot at stake for both teams, despite it being just the third game of qualifying.
Slovenia will provide a tough challenge for England this evening, having seen off the threat of Slovakia at the weekend. Rok Kronaveter scored the only goal of that game in the 74th minute to hand Sreko Katanec's men the three points and their opening victory of qualifying.
The team news has been confirmed, and here are the line-ups, beginning with the home side.
Rooney starts from the bench for England this evening, prompting suggestions that his illustrious career could be on the decline. Eric Dier gets the nod to start ahead of him in the middle of the park, while the other change for the Three Lions sees Danny Rose come into the side at left-back to replace the injured Ryan Bertrand.
Slovenia are unchanged from their victory over Slovakia. That means despite scoring the winning goal in the contest Kronaveter has to settle for a place on the bench. Roman Bezjak and Josip Illicic continue to lead the line for Katanec's men this evening.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: SLOVENIA 0-0 ENGLAND
It's goalless at the break at Stadion Stozice, but Slovenia will be rueing their missed opportunities in the first half. They all came at once as Roman Berzak seized on Eric Dier's loose backpass, but his effort was saved by Joe Hart, while Jasmin Kurtic struck the post with the rebound.
England have been lacklustre in the final third and have been unable to create any clear-cut opportunities. Their best effort may have come from Daniel Sturridge, but that failed to threaten Jan Oblak. Gareth Southgate has his first big test as interim boss at the interval.
FULL-TIME: SLOVENIA 0-0 ENGLAND
England claim a point to remain unbeaten in Group F, but Gareth Southgate will not be pleased with their performance. Joe Hart kept Slovenia at bay early in the second half to deny Jasmin Kurtic and Rene Khrin, while Josip Illicic almost missed a good opportunity to go with Kurtic and Roman Bezjak's failures in the first half.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
