We're underway in Baku.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the World Cup qualifying clash between Azerbaijan and Northern Ireland.
Michael O'Neill's men were well placed in their bid to qualify for the second phase, with Norn Iron unlikely to push Germany for top spot in Group C.
Northern Ireland have won their last two matches in qualifying, including a 4-0 hammering of Azerbaijan on home soil in November last year. They also put in an impressive performance to defeat Norway at Windsor Park in March.
Norn Iron have 10 points from their five fixtures thus far and will be determined to sign off for the summer with another victory under their belts, heading into the autumn with momentum.
Azerbaijan sit in the middle of the group after their five matches. They are in dire need of a result this afternoon to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Robert Prosinecki's men have conceded eight goals in their last two matches, with Norn Iron and Germany put four goals apiece past them. That record will have to improve tonight to get the three points they desperately need.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Northern Ireland subs: Hodson, Thompson, D Lafferty, Paton, Flanagan, Lund, Carroll, K Lafferty, Mannus, McGinn, Ferguson, McCartan.
Prosinecki has made two changes to his side from their defeat to Germany last time out. Richard Almeyda and Maksim Medvedev come into the fold this afternoon.
O'Neill has made two changes from his side that beat New Zealand in a friendly at Windsor Park last week. Steven Davis and Gareth McAuley are restored to the starting line-up, with Matthew Lund and Tom Flanagan making way.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
AZERBAIJAN (4-3-3): Agayev; Medvedev, B Huseynov, Sadygov, Pasayev; Almeyda, Qarayev, C Huseynov; Ismayilov, Seydayev, Nazarov.
HALF-TIME: AZERBAIJAN 0-0 NORTHERN IRELAND
It's goalless after 45 minutes in Baku, with both sides struggling for quality in the final third. Azerbaijan had the best opportunity of the first half when Ramil Seydayev burst through on goal, but could only fire over the bar.
Northern Ireland will be satisfied with their efforts in the first half, although they will want to threaten more in the second period. Michael O'Neill will be pleased with the defensive resilience his team have displayed and may feel that a point is not a bad result.
FULL-TIME: AZERBAIJAN 0-1 NORTHERN IRELAND
Northern Ireland pull off a huge result in their bid to reach the World Cup next year as Stuart Dallas' strike in the 92nd minute hands them three vital points. It looked as though Michael O'Neill's side would have to settle for a point after a largely ineffective performance in the final third, but the midfield held his nerve with his team's first clear-cut opening of the match to fire home.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
