Hello and welcome to our LIVE text commentary of the Champions League fixture between RSC Anderlecht and Paris Saint-Germain at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.
The home side will be looking to achieve their first Champions League points of the season, whilst PSG will aim to continue their perfect start in Group B.
Two 3-0 defeats against Bayern Munich and Celtic have left Anderlecht with an uphill struggle so early on in this campaign, which means achieving a result this evening is crucial for their hopes of qualification. Last season’s Belgium champions enter this contest in good form, however, after winning their third league match in succession against Mechelen last Friday. Everton loanee Henry Onyekuru scored twice in a 4-3 victory to take his tally to six goals for the season.
An injury-time winner from Thomas Meunier secured all three points for Paris Saint-Germain last time out. Despite maintaining their unbeaten start in all competitions, Unai Emery’s side failed to replicate their high early season standards in what was a very lacklustre 2-1 victory against Dijon. They have started their Champions League campaign in emphatic fashion, however, by beating Celtic 5-0 and Bayern Munich 3-0. Victory this evening will put them in pole position to qualify for the round of 16.
PSG’s last visit to the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium ended in a magnificent 5-0 win in 2013, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring four of the goals whilst Edinson Cavani scored the other. Victory that day made it three wins from three games, which is something the Parisians will be aiming to replicate this evening.
The reverse fixture finished all square that season, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic rescuing a 1-1 draw for Paris Saint-Germain despite Anderlecht having a player sent off.
There’s just over 15 minutes to go until kick-off, so let’s reveal how the two teams line-up…
Paris Saint-Germain substitutes: Berchiche, Di Maria, Trapp, Pastore, Draxler, Meunier, Lo Celso.
Hein Vanhaezebrouck makes one change to his last starting eleven by swapping Matz Sels for Frank Boeckx in the Anderlecht goal.
The away side have made four changes this evening, with Thomas Meunier, Yuri Berchiche, Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria moving to the bench for Layvin Kurzawa, Marco Verratti, Thiago Motta and Edinson Cavani.
The teams walk out of the tunnel and line-up to the famous Champions League anthem before shaking hands. The game will get underway shortly.
HALF-TIME - ANDERLECHT 0-2 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - The away side look set to continue their unbeaten run in all competitions this season after two first-half goals. PSG started the game well by taking the lead through Kylian Mbappe in the third minute after an intricate through pass from Marco Verratti. The home side responded superbly, however, and began to dominate the remainder of the half. But, on the stroke of half-time, the aforementioned Neymar, Mbappe and Edinson Cavani combined as the Uruguayan doubled PSG’s advantage.
STAT: Edinson Cavani has now scored 12 goals in 11 Champions League matches since last season.
Thank you for joining our Live Text Commentary between RSC Anderlecht and Paris Saint-Germain this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
FULL-TIME - ANDERLECHT 0-4 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - An emphatic performance from the away side maintains their 100% start in Group B. Despite being under pressure for long spells in the first-half, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani scored to give PSG a controlling lead at half-time. The second-half continued with Paris Saint-Germain dominance as Cavani had two goals disallowed for being offside, alongside hitting the woodwork. They eventually scored their third goal, however, through an exquisite free-kick from Neymar who found the bottom left-hand corner after the defensive wall jumped over the ball. The PSG players were queuing up for a fourth goal in the remainder of the contest, with it eventually being scored by Angel Di Maria just before full-time.
