A poor pass from Ibrahimovic is cut out on the edge of the hosts' box, allowing Watford to burst forward on what could prove to be their final attack of the night. Carrillo sends another impressive cross into the penalty area as he tries to find Deeney, but this time it's Smalling who latches onto the ball ahead of the number nine.
90' +2
Vital interception by Lindelof! Carrillo causes more problems for the United defence as he dances his way into the right-hand side of the visitors' penalty area. He then lifts a chipped cross over to Deeney, but the striker can't quite get the better of Lindelof in front of goal.
90'
The fourth official has indicated that there will be four minutes of added time.
89'
Richarlison bursts down the left wing and cuts into the United box on a really impressive run. He heads towards the near post and then tries to poke a shot past De Gea, but the Spaniard does well to deflect the strike behind with his legs.
88'
Z. Ibrahimović enters the game and replaces J. Lingard.
After scoring an absolutely wonderful goal, Lingard is replaced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the final few minutes of the game.
86'
J. Lingard has scored a goal for Manchester United! Assist by Ander Herrera.
It was Herrera who set up Lingard to burst forward but that was all about the number 14. He wasn't closed down quickly enough by a group of Watford players and was able to beat them all with an absolutely excellent piece of play.
GOAL! United re-establish their two-goal lead! A Watford attack breaks down and the visitors immediately break forward through Lingard. He flies through the middle of the pitch on an absolutely excellent run as he easily gets the better of three Watford players, and he then fires a brilliant strike past Gomes to make it 4-2. What a solo effort!
84'
A. Doucouré has scored a goal for Watford! Assist by A. Carrillo.
Carrillo did wonderfully well to tee up Doucoure with a really clever pass into space. He's had a really positive impact on the game and has helped his side turn things around.
GOAL! It's another for Watford! Carrillo, who has been excellent since coming off the substitutes' bench, cuts a lovely pass back from the right-hand side of the box and perfectly picks out Doucoure, who quickly shoots and beats De Gea with an excellent first-time strike. Watford are right back in this!
83'
Space opens up for Lingard over on the right-hand side of the Watford penalty area after he's able to latch onto a clever through-ball from Lukaku. The winger quickly tries to beat Gomes with a cheeky chip, but he can't hit the target and his effort fails to trouble the Brazilian.
82'
Zeegelaar is the latest Watford player to whip a cross into the heart of the United box, where it's just about dealt with by the chest of Young. He quickly tries to blast the ball away from danger but smashes it straight into Deeney, who ends up deflecting the ball a few yards wide of the near post.
81'
An attempted United attacking move fails to result in a chance on goal, allowing Watford to counter-attack swiftly. Carrillo sprints through the middle of the pitch before teeing up Richarlison, who quickly crosses but ends up sending his pass sailing behind for a goal-kick.
Minute
Description
79'
Watford quickly regain possession from the restart and push forward once again. Femenia breaks down the right wing and curls a lovely cross into the penalty area, where Deeney rises high and meets the ball but can't quite test De Gea with his looping header.
77'
Penalty goal scored by T. Deeney for Watford!
GOAL! Deeney steps up and calmly slots a lovely strike past De Ge and into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. Game on?
PENALTY! Watford have been handed a lifeline! Pereyra skips into the right-hand side of the United box and takes on Rojo, who gets in a tangle and clumsily drags the Argentine to the ground, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot.
76'
Lukaku goes close again! This time the striker does much better as he battles his way across the Watford box and gets a shot away, but his low strike ends up rolling agonisingly wide of the far post after leaving Gomes rooted to the spot.
75'
Poor play by Lukaku! The Belgian is presented with an excellent opportunity to fire in his first goal of the game after Watford are caught all at sea at the back, but he takes an absolute age to shoot and is eventually dispossessed before he's able to pull the trigger.
74'
Pogba almost makes it 4-0! A United free-kick is curled into the heart of the Watford penalty area and perfectly picks out Pogba. The Frenchman rises high and meets the ball really well, but he can't quite hit the target with his effort and sends it looping just over the top of the crossbar.
73'
Great opportunity for Watford to pull one back! Really good play from the home side results in another chance on goal for them, but they can't quite make it count. Doucoure charges into the box and shoots, but his scuffed effort is poor and cleared by Smalling before it can roll over to Deeney.
72'
T. Deeney enters the game and replaces A. Gray.
Watford have made their third and final alteration of the evening, with Gray making way for Troy Deeney up front.
70'
Watford are continuing to put plenty of pressure on the United defence as they desperately try to score. This time it's Richarlison who rises high as he tries to latch onto a cross from Zeegelaar, but, under pressure, he isn't able to do so. The ball is only cleared as far as Mariappa and allows the defender to shoot, but his thumping, long-range effort is poor and sails well wide of the goal.
68'
Nervy moments at the back for United! Carrillo, who has looked bright since coming onto the pitch, twists and turns over on the left flank before poking a cross into the heart of the penalty area. It pinballs around dangerously, but Rojo is just about able to thump the ball away from danger before anyone can shoot.
66'
Lingard is tripped to the ground by Zeegelaar, and United are awarded a free-kick in a promising position 30 yards away from goal. It's taken quickly and sent through to Lingard, who shoots from inside the box but can only fire a deflected strike into the side-netting after initially taking Watford by surprise.
65'
M. Rashford enters the game and replaces A. Martial.
United have made their second change of the night, with Martial making way for Marcus Rashford.
64'
Another chance for Richarlison! The Brazilian looks understandably hungry to score as he continues to cause problems for the visitors' back line. This time he rises high at the far post and manages to latch onto a curling cross, but he can't quite guide his header on target and sends it just wide of the goal.
62'
Valencia does well to get himself into a decent position over on the right flank before poking a clever pass down to Lingard. He meets the ball ahead of his marker and tries to cut a pass back to Lukaku, but he can't quite pick out the Belgian in front of goal and Watford hold on.
60'
Richarlison is caught from behind by Lindelof, resulting in a free-kick for Watford out wide. It's sent short and eventually worked over to Doucoure, who shoots from 35 yards out but fails to hit the target with his audacious strike.
58'
R. Pereyra enters the game and replaces W. Hughes.
A. Carrillo enters the game and replaces S. Prödl.
Meanwhile, Andre Carrillo has come on to replace Prodl in an attacking alteration from the hosts.
The ball eventually makes its way out of play and Hughes is able to gingerly make his way off the pitch to be replaced by Roberto Pereyra.
56'
This doesn't look good for Hughes! Femenia pokes a clever pass down the right flank and manages to pick out Hughes on the edge of the United box, but the midfielder immediately pulls up as he tries to get the better of Herrera and immediately grabs hold ofhis hamstring.
54'
Ander Herrera enters the game and replaces N. Matić.
United have made their first substitution of the game, with Ander Herrera coming on to replace Matic, who looks to have picked up a slight injury.
53'
Huge chance for United to make it 4-0! After dealing, with the corner, the visitors hit Watford on yet another swift counter-attack. Martial charges through the middle of the pitch and sets up Lukaku, who then fizzes a clever pass across the face of goal that can't quite pick out Lingard at the far post.
52'
Marvin Zeegelaar pops up on the left-hand side of the United penalty area and quickly whips a dangerous cross towards the near post, where Lindelof is just about able to deflect it behind for a corner. The set-piece is a really good one and looks set to find a Watford player in front of goal, but Rojo is just about able to get a head on the ball at the vital moment.
51'
Lingard and Mariappa battle for the ball deep down the right wing as they desperately try to reach it first, and it's Mariappa who does so with a poke behind for a corner. The set-piece is sent short and worked over to Martial, who tries to link up with Valencia but ends up knocking the ball out for a Watford throw-in.
49'
Richarlison goes down midway inside the United half of the pitch and the home side are awarded a free-kick in a decent position. Cleverley steps up and sends a looping deep into the penalty area, but Chris Smalling is there to rise high above a sea of yellow shirts to clear the danger.
47'
It's Watford who push forward on the first attack of the second half as they desperately try to find a way back into the game. Cleverley gets himself into a good position deep down the left wing and quickly crosses, but it's sent too near to De Gea and the Spaniard easily collects the ball.
46'
We're underway once again!
45' +1
Richarlison hits the crossbar! Watford are almost able to end the first half on a high after the Brazilian latches onto a lovely cross from Femenia, but he ends up smashing the woodwork after getting the better of De Gea.
45'
The fourth official has indicated that there will be just one minute of added time.
44'
Fantastic double save by Gomes! Lukaku and Lingard both looked certain to increase United's lead, but the Brazilian goalkeeper, who, despite letting in three goals, has barely touched the ball tonight, denies the Belgian before tipping Lingard's follow-up effort over the crossbar.
42'
The former Watford man does indeed shoot, but his strike isn't quite as good as the last and it fails to find a way past the wall of yellow shirts camped just in front of him.
41'
A. Mariappa gets yellow.
Martial showcases impressive footwork as he tries to dance his way into the Watford box, but he's brought down by Adrian Mariappa and United are awarded another free-kick in a good position. Will Young shoot?
40'
Watford are starting to cause a few more problems for United as they try to carve out a chance on goal, but the visitors' back line are able to remain well-organised and resolute as they keep Gray and Richarlison away from their penalty area.
38'
M. Rojo gets yellow.
Gray started the game brightly and was able to get involved in much of the action, but he now finds himself incredibly isolated up front. The striker drifts out to the right flank and takes on Marcos Rojo, who drags him to the ground and ends up receiving a booking.
36'
Antonio Valencia and Lingard link up well deep down the right flank as United easily find space once again. The latter then chips a clever cross into the middle of the box, but he can't quite find a team-mate and loses out to Prodl.
34'
Another unforced error - this time by Prodl - almost gifts United an opportunity to make it 4-0, but Femenia is just about able to dart across the edge of the penalty area and blast the ball away from danger before the visitors can take advantage of the mistake.
32'
A. Martial has scored a goal for Manchester United! Assist by R. Lukaku.
GOAL! It's another for United! A poor header from Christian Kabasele can only find Lukaku, who immediately knocks the ball down to Martial. The Frenchman is acres of space just outside of the box, and he immediately bursts inside before beating Gomes with a lovely side-footed finish. United are tearing Watford apart!
Lukaku did well to react quickly and poke the ball into the feet of Martial, but Watford really should have defended better in the build-up. They left themselves far too open on the break and were made to pay for their sloppy defending.
31'
Watford are showing a few signs of promise inside the visitors' half of the pitch, but they're leaving themselves incredibly open at the back. United are finding all sort of space whenever they push forward, and that should be a real worry for Marco Silva.
29'
Lovely play by Hughes midway inside the United half of the pitch sees him get the better of his marker before poking a beautiful pass through to Richarlison. It initially looks as if the Brazilian has managed to spin round Lindelof, but the centre-back sticks to him well and is able to blast the ball away from danger.
27'
Understandably, those two goals really seem to have knocked the stuffing out of Watford. They had certainly started the game the better of the two sides but now find themselves two goals down and in desperate need of a goal to get themselves back in the contest before it slips too far away from them.
25'
A. Young has scored a goal for Manchester United!
GOAL! What a strike by Young! The wing-back looks full of confidence as he steps up to take the free-kick, and he ends up curling an absolutely sensational shot straight into the top left-hand corner of the net to make it 2-0. That was world-class!
24'
A. Doucouré gets yellow.
Watford lose the ball again inside the United half of the pitch, and the visitors immediately counter-attack through Paul Pogba. The Frenchman darts through the middle of the pitch and tries to shrug off Doucoure, but he's eventually dragged to the ground by the midfielder and wins his side a free-kick in an excellent position.
23'
Hughes, who has arguably been one of Watford's best players so far this evening, gets himself into a good position once again deep inside the United half of the pitch as he tries to swing a cross into the box. He's unable to do so though, as he's well dealt with by the visitors' wide players and ends up losing possession.
21'
United quickly win the ball back from the restart and launch a lofted pass into the Watford penalty area, where it finds Martial. The Frenchman can't quite control it, however, and has to settle for a corner that fails to result in another chance on goal for the visitors.
19'
A. Young has scored a goal for Manchester United! Assist by J. Lingard.
GOAL! United have taken the lead! Romelu Lukaku does really well to spin round his marker in the middle of the pitch before setting up Lingard just outside of the Watford box. The winger takes a quick touch and moves the ball over to Young, who gets the better of Femenia before firing an absolute rocket of a shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
That was good play by Lingard who drop into a pocket of space before spinning and finding Young, but that goal was all about the United wing-back. It's his first goal of the season, and it's come against his boyhood club.
17'
Hughes and Richarlison try to link up quickly on the edge of the United box, but Lindelof does well to steal the ball back for the visitors and immediately set up a swift counter-attack. The ball is worked over to Martial and tees up the Frenchman to cut into the penalty area from the left wing, but he can't quite find a way through a group of defenders and the ball ends up rolling straight into the hands of Heurelho Gomes.
15'
Jesse Lingard holds up the ball deep down the right flank as he tries to find a way past Sebastian Prodl, but he isn't able to and United have to settle for a corner. The set-piece initially fails to result in a chance on goal for the visitors before the ball finds its way back to Lingard, who quickly crosses but can only pick out the head of Richarlison.
13'
Watford move the ball around really nicely as they continue to dominate the opening stages of the game. Hughes and Richarlison link up brilliantly before the latter tries to tee up Doucoure just outside of the United penalty area, but the midfielder is closed down quickly by Young and, under pressure from the wing-back, can only poke the ball behind for a goal-kick.
11'
Femenia gets the better of Ashley Young as he skips down the right wing, and he then fires in a deflected cross that David De Gea is forced into tipping over the crossbar. The resulting corner is whipped in and picks out Richarlison, who is easily able to get a head on the ball but can't test De Gea with his blocked effort on goal.
9'
And now Gray goes close! Richarlison peels out to the left flank and picks up the ball in a pocket of space. He then spots a clever run forward from Gray and tries to find the striker in front of goal, but his curling cross ends up missing his oustretched foot by the narrowest of margins.
7'
Early chance for Richarlison! Watford keep pushing forward as they continue putting early pressure on the visitors. This time it's Kiko Femenia who whips a wonderful cross into the penalty area and towards Richarlison, who tries to latch onto the ball at the near post but is put off by Victor Lindelof at the vital moment.
5'
A heavy touch from Nemanja Matic gifts possession to Abdoulaye Doucoure, who quickly charges forward on a marauding run. The home side move the ball around nicely before Tom Cleverley fires in a cross from the left-hand side of the box, and it's one that gives the United back line a few things to think about.
3'
After an attempted Watford attacking move fails to result in a chance on goal, United push forward on a decent attack of their own. Anthony Martial quickly cuts inside from the left flank and tries to pick out a team-mate inside the box, but there are plenty of yellow shirts there to deal with the danger.
2'
After an even start to the game from both sides, it's Watford who push forward on the first attack of the evening. Space opens up for Will Hughes and allows the midfielder to burst down the right wing, but he and Andre Gray aren't on the same wavelength and his pass towards the striker fails to pick him out.
1'
We're off! United get us underway, attacking from left to right.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Premier League game between Watford and Manchester United at Vicarage Road.
A draw for Chelsea against Liverpool in their last outing means United now sit three points clear of the Blues in second place, but they remain eight points behind league leaders Manchester City and can’t afford to slip up tonight if they’re to keep any sort of pressure on their rivals. The Red Devils have lost two of their last five league games but have the opportunity to extend their winning run to three games if they’re victorious this evening.
United went close to dropping 10 points behind City - a gap that, even with just over a third of the season completed, would have been disastrous - when they took on Brighton & Hove Albion on the weekend, but they were saved by a solitary Lewis Dunk own-goal that allowed to leave with a much-needed victory. They weren’t at their best that day, and Jose Mourinho will certainly be looking for an improvement here tonight.
As for Watford, their excellent start to the campaign continues to go on, and they find themselves comfortably in eighth place heading into this evening’s big clash. It looked as if their early season promise might have come to an end when they lost three consecutive Premier League games, but they showed great grit and determination to bounce back with confident wins against both West Ham United and Newcastle United.
The performance against the Magpies was arguably Watford’s best of the season so far, setting them up perfectly for tonight’s game. While the Hornets thoroughly impressed in a 2-1 win against Arsenal last month, they have struggled defensively against top-six sides this season, with Liverpool, City and Chelsea managing to fire a combined total of 13 goals past them across just three games.
Watford fans will certainly have fond memories of last season’s meeting between the two sides, as it produced their club’s first win against United since 1986. The Hornets struck twice late on to beat their opponents 3-1 early in the season, and they’ll certainly be hoping that a revitalised and impressive Watford side can muster up a similar performance this evening.
There’s just under 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up tonight...
Manchester United (3-4-2-1): De Gea; Lindelof, Smalling, Rojo; Valencia, Pogba, Matic, Young; Lingard, Martial; Lukaku.
Manchester United substitutes: Romero, Darmian, McTominay, Herrera, Mata, Rashford, Ibrahimovic.
Marco Silva has decided to make just one change to the Watford side that beat Newcastle on the weekend, with Sebastian Prodl coming into the starting line-up to replace the injured Miguel Britos.
Meanwhile, United boss Jose Mourinho has made two alterations to the team that featured in their last outing, with Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford making way for Marcos Rojo and Jesse Lingard as they switch to a three-man defence.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: WATFORD 0-3 MANCHESTER UNITED
United head into the half-time break in complete control, and they look set to leave Vicarage Road with three well-earned points after enjoying a wonderful first half. Poor defending from the home side allowed former Watford man Young to score twice before Martial made it 4-0, and it could have been worse if not for heroics from Gomes. Richarlison has looked dangerous at the other end, however, so, in theory, there's a way back into this for the Hornets if they keep pushing hard.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: WATFORD 2-4 MANCHESTER UNITED
The referee blows his whistle for the final time and Jose Mourinho seems to breathe a sight of relief over on the touchline. His United side were cruising at half-time thanks to a near-perfect first-half performance, but they let their comfortable lead slip and were given a real scare late on. However, Lingard managed to re-establish their two-goal lead with an absolutely excellent solo effort, and they were then able to keep Watford at bay for the final few minutes to leave with all three points.
