The Foxes have not had a successful week as they were soundly beaten by Crystal Palace in their last Premier League outing on home soil, while they were knocked out of the League Cup on penalties by Manchester City. Claude Puel's men had produced argubaly their best performance of the campaign against Southampton 10 days ago, but their momentum has been stymied ahead of tonight's clash.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Leicester City and Manchester United at the King Power Stadium.
United were also knocked out of the League Cup during the week, suffering a shock exit at the hands of Bristol City. Jose Mourinho's men were below-par in their defeat to the Championship side. They cannot afford to let the loss affect their play this evening as Manchester City's comfortable 4-0 win over Bournemouth has taken them 14 points clear at the top of the Premier League. The Red Devils have to keep the title race alive.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Jones, Lindelof, Smalling, Young; Pogba, Matic; Lingard, Mata, Martial; Lukaku.
United subs: Rojo, Ibrahimovic, Rashford, Romero, Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Shaw.
Only four of Leicester's regular starting line-up featured against City in the League Cup during the week. Harry Maguire, Christian Fuchs, Marc Albrighton and Vicente Iborra retain their places. Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Simpson, Wes Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray are all recalled to the team, while Wilfred Ndidi returns from his one-match suspension.
Only Victor Lindelof, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial feature in Mourinho's starting line-up from the team that played Bristol City. David de Gea returns between the sticks, while Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Ashley Young come back into the defence. Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku also return to the side.
STAT ATTACK! Leicester City have lost 13 of their last 17 Premier League games against Manchester United (W1 D3).
STAT ATTACK! Leicester City lost their last home league game against Crystal Palace – the last three occasions they’ve lost back-to-back Premier League games at the King Power Stadium have been under different managers (Craig Shakespeare in September, Claudio Ranieri in February and Nigel Pearson in February 2015).
FLASHBACK! United won this fixture 3-0 last season thanks to goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mata, which was Claudio Ranieri's final home match as Leicester manager before he was sacked.
HALF-TIME: LEICESTER 1-1 MANCHESTER UNITED
It's all square at the break at the King Power Stadium. Leicester took the lead against the run of play when Jamie Vardy fired them ahead in the 27th minute. However, Manchester United levelled just before the break when Juan Mata was afforded time to bury his effort into the bottom corner. The match remains evenly poised, and although United have dominated possession they do look vulnerable to the Foxes' counter-attacks.
FULL-TIME: LEICESTER 2-2 MANCHESTER UNITED
Harry Maguire puts a huge blow into the slim title hopes of Manchester United with his late leveller. The Red Devils had ample chances to kill off Leicester, but they were unable to take them with Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford all spurning openings. The Foxes made them pay as Maguire popped up to capitalise on Chris Smalling's injury to stab home at the death. Jamie Vardy had put the Foxes ahead in the contest, only for Juan Mata to equalise and then fire United in front. However, Maguire's late effort ensured that Claude Puel's men claimed a share of the spoils to make a bad week worse for Jose Mourinho.
