A mistake from Hernandez almost gifts Getafe that final chance, but a very heavy touch instead of a pass sees the opportunity go begging. That should be it now.
90' +2
Getafe do their very best to create one last opportunity, but the hosts are packed in so tightly in their own box and every shot is charged down or blocked.
90'
Three added minutes to go. Barring a spectacular turnaround, it looks like the game is won for Atletico.
88'
Fernando Torres enters the game and replaces Koke.
Koke comes off for Torres as the game draws to a close.
MISS! Substitute Jimenez spurns a glorious opportunity to pull one back as he fires over from insde the box after good work on the right to play him in. What a chance!
87'
SAVE! Koke takes this time, and it's got better height to it, but it's still too central and Martinez holds on again.
86'
Griezmann tears down the pitch and is brought down on the edge of the area. Another good free-kick opportunity, and a chance to drag his side up the field.
84'
J. Giménez enters the game and replaces Á. Correa.
Correa now comes off for Gimenez, a centre-back, as Simeone looks to just see the game out. Atletico go to a 5-3-1 for the final few minutes.
82'
SAVE! Martinez takes the ball into his midriff as Griezmann shoots from the free-kick. The Frenchman gets it over the wall, but it's not in the corner enough and it's a comfortable save in th end.
81'
Correa dances past a challenge and drives towards goal, but he's felled 25 yards or so out via a push from behind.
79'
Getafe look dangerous as they get to the edge of the box, but Atletico work hard to deny them space to shoot and eventually hack the ball clear.
Minute
Description
77'
Neither Griezmann nor the crowd are happy with the linesman's very late and incorrect offisde flag against the Frenchman. The hosts certainly feel hard done by with some of the decisions given today.
74'
D. Dakonam gets yellow.
Dani Pacheco enters the game and replaces Ángel Rodríguez.
Substitution Ángel Luis Rodríguez Díaz Daniel Pacheco Lobato
Another yellow is shown! Dakonam picks up the latest booking.
71'
At 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go, Costa's sending-off will likely mean little for the outcome of this game. However, he will certainly be frustrated at sitting out more games, having waited half a season to get back out on the pitch.
68'
Diego Costa has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by Š. Vrsaljko.
Diego Costa gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
Vrsaljko got down the right well and delivered a good, low cross into a dangerous area, and Costa made no mistake with the finish!
GOAL!! Costa scores! Vrsaljko whips in a low cross and Costa tucks it into the bottom-right corner first-time! A simple finish, but he's elated and runs to celebrate with the crowd!
RED CARD! Costa's jubilation is short-lived, as he returns from his wild celebrations to be shown a second yellow for going into the crowd, and he's sent off! Costa is back with a bang alright!
67'
Atletico are incensed as the referee blows his whistle for a foul, with Griezmann in behind and looking to square to an unmarked Costa! However, the latter's arms were up as he held off the defender leading to that chance. In fairness to him, that one looked relatively innocuous.
64'
G. Shibasaki enters the game and replaces Sergio Mora.
Álvaro Jiménez enters the game and replaces Portillo.
Jose Bordalas makes a double-switch as he looked to get his side back in the game. Mora off for Shibasaki is the first change.
Portillo for Jiménez is the second, as the visitors try and find a goal to get level.
62'
Diego Costa gets yellow.
Costa picks up a yellow card of his own for a naughty elbow in the face of the defender challenging him. This game hasn't lost its edge just yet.
60'
T. Partey enters the game and replaces Y. Carrasco.
With just an hour gone, Partey comes on in place of Carrasco, who has looked threatening today. A somewhat negative move from Simeone. Koke goes out wide, while the substitute slots into midfield.
58'
MISS! What a miss by Costa! He showed pace and power to get onto a long ball forward that was poorly dealt with by Suarez, but his left-footed half-volley is blazed over the bar! From that close in, he has to be hitting the target!
56'
Griezmann is caught clearly offside as Costa tries to put him through after winning the ball back. That's a let-off for Getafe there.
53'
Griezmann is felled 30 or so yards from goal, but the free-kick doesn't trouble Getafe and they clear comfortably.
51'
Correa desperately tries to pull the ball back from the byline, but the ball had just sneaked out of play before he got to it.
50'
Atletico push and probe into the Getafe half, but the visitors keep their shape and stand firm.
47'
Costa goes on a run down the left, but he's crowded out at the byline and has to settle for a corner.
46'
We're back underway for the second half!
45'
S. Savić gets yellow.
Juan Cala gets yellow.
Cala is booked for his own part in the fracas, and gets the seventh yellow card of the half!
The temprature is really rising now! There's a bit of a fracas following a challenge and Savic shoves Cala in the throat and picks up a yellow!
44'
A. Griezmann gets yellow.
Griezmann looks bewlidered as he picks up a yellow for a foul. He believes he won the ball there, but the referee clearly disagrees.
42'
However, that hasn't prevented tempers from flaring! Simeone is visibly unhappy with a challenge on Hernandez, and proceeds to count the number of fouls he believes to have gone against his team so far this half, displaying 10 fingers. The referee then has to speak to both the coach and his staff.
41'
The pace of the game is slowing as the half winds to a close. Both sides seem content to go in at the break as it is and adjust their game-plan for the second period accordingly.
39'
Hernandez wins a free-kick on the left, but the delivery is poor and Martinez catches comfortably.
35'
SAVE! Oblak performs another routine save, as the ball is drilled low down the centre of the goal. He's had to make a few saves in this half, but he's not yet been stretched.
33'
Carrasco - who has looked lively down the left - wins another Atletico corner, but Martinez is there to claim the eventual delivery after it was taken short.
30'
Gabi gets yellow.
Tensions are rising here as another yellow card is shown, this time to Gabi, as he trips Ndiaye while the winger tried to break from an Atletico corner.
29'
Portillo gets yellow.
Portillo then picks up a yellow card for a very late barge on Gabi, after a lovely nutmeg on Koke.
26'
Costa is fouled, and he gets up and gets straight in the referee's face about it, presumably looking for a card. The referee is then swarmed by players from both sides, but he holds to his decision and gives a free-kick, nothing more. Costa hasn't changed too much, it seems.
24'
L. Hernández gets yellow.
Having just said that, the hosts lose the ball on nthe edge of Getafe's area and Hernandez has to commit a foul to prevent the counter-attack.
23'
Atletico knocking the ball about comfortably now. They're in the lead at home, and they don't need to take too many risks.
21'
SAVE! Ndiaye has a dig from the left after being set up by Molina, but his left-footed drive is saved by Oblak. That combination looks dangerous on that side for Getafe.
18'
Á. Correa has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by A. Griezmann.
Griezmann has had a relatively quiet game so far, bar his missed chance, but he showed excellent poise and awareness there to slip his teammate in.
GOAL! Correa puts the hosts in front! Atletico win the ball back well after giving it away in midfield, and Griezmann charges at the defence before slipping Correa in on the right, and he tucks it away first-time with the outside of his right boot into the bottom left corner! Lovely finish! It's 1-0 to Atletico Madrid!
17'
Correa's first-time flick towards Costa is poor, but the striker is adjudged to be offside anyway.
14'
Š. Vrsaljko gets yellow.
Vrsaljko commits a foul on the edge of the Getafe area as he competes for the ball, and picks up a yellow card.
12'
Carrasco feints and jinks his way past three on the left, but the fourth man is there to deny him a shot on goal. It would have been something special if he'd scored there!
10'
MISS! Moments after Oblak snuffs out a dangerous Getafe attack, Atletico break down the other end and Costa feeds Griezmann in the box, but his first-time effort is wide of the post!
7'
SAVE! Ndiaye has a low drive at goal from the left side of the box, but it's another tame one and Oblak holds it easily.
5'
MISS! Costa almost gets on the scoresheet after some lovely interplay on the edge of the box gives him a yard, and he whips one towads the top corner, only to see it ruffle the top of the net as it goes over!
4'
SAVE! What a chance for Getafe! Atletico's appeals for a foul are waved away, and a defence-splitting pass allows Rodriguez in behind, but his attempt to catch Oblak out is tame and straight at him.
3'
Ndiaye chases a ball down the left, but he fouls Vrsaljko as the right-back shields the ball from him.
2'
Costa's first involvement is to draw a foul from Dakonam, but Martinez is out assertively to claim the free-kick. He then has to be alert and quick off his line to clear a horribly under-hit back-pass.
1'
And we're off at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano!
The line-ups have been announced, and we'll start with the home side.

Diego Simeone makes eight changes from his side's comfortable 4-0 victory over minnows Lleida Esportiu in the Copa del Rey. Only Diego Godin, Angel Correa and Yannick Carrasco keep their places. Diego Costa - who scored just six minutes after coming off the bench for his debut against Lleida - is afforded his first start after returning to the club from Chelsea in an exciting partnership with Antoine Griezmann up front. Saul Niguez is suspended.
Getafe make just two changes from their 2-0 win over Las Palmas last time out. Faycal Fajr makes way for Mauro Arambarri in midfield, while Arsenal loanee Emiliano Martinez starts in goal ahead of Vincente Guaita.
Today's hosts have maintained their reputation of being a tough side to beat this season, having lost just twice in all competitions so far this season, suffering their first league defeat of the campaign in their last competitive match of 2017 - a 1-0 defeat to Espanyol that ended a 16-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
However, the second-placed side in LaLiga still sit nine points off leaders Barcelona, having succumbed to six draws in the league so far. Simeone will hope that the return of Costa will give them a greater cutting edge, and help them convert more of their stalemates into victories.
Their opponents today - Getafe - are local rivals, and sit a respectable eighth in the league table, with the fifth-best defence in the division and the best goal difference outside the top four.
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the LaLiga fixture between Atletico Madrid and Getafe at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.
The visitors have already faced each of the other three members of the current top four, beating Valencia 1-0, and falling to narrow 2-1 home defeats against Barcelona and Real Madrid. Whether they win or lose, they're certainly no pushovers!
The half-time whistle blows and there's angry scenes as the players leave the field. Costa typically gets involved, confronting Cala outside the tunnel, and they have to be forcibly separated!
It has been a feisty half of football, to say the least, but on the footballing side of things, it's Correa's lovely strike that separates the two sides after Griezmann played him in. Ndiaye has looked lively for the visitors down the left, but Oblak has yet to be forced into a really difficult save. It's 1-0 to Atletico Madrid at half-time.
After SEVEN yellow cards in the first half (five for Atletico, two for Getafe) don't be surprised if a sending-off occurs in the second period and changes this game completely!
And there goes the full-time whistle! Atletico Madrid come out on top in a festy affair, Correa netting the first and Costa tucking away the second before seeing a second yellow card for his celebration with the crowd. Despite going down to 10 men for the last 20 minutes, the hosts looked relatively comfortable and were able to see out the victory. It finishes 2-0 to Atletico Madrid as they make a happy start to 2018!
