We're underway at Anfield.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Tottenham at Anfield.
Liverpool ended a run of back-to-back defeats by defeating Huddersfield during the week. The Reds ran out comfortable victors at the John Smith's Stadium as goals from Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah secured the win. Jurgen Klopp's men needed the result to regain their composure in the battle for the top four, which looks to be heading down to the wire.
Spurs put forward arguably their best performance of the season to defeat Manchester United at Wembley. Christian Eriksen scored the third-fastest goal in Premier League history to put Mauricio Pochettino's men ahead, while an own goal from Phil Jones helped secure three points. The scoreline could have been greater than the two-goal margin, but Tottenham were guilty of wasting chances. They will need to be at their best once again, with a stronger clinical edge in the final third.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Loris Karius; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Andrew Robertson; James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Emre Can; Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool subs: Georginio Wijnaldum, Alberto Moreno, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Simon Mignolet, Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke, Joel Matip.
TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Hugo Lloris; Kieran Trippier, Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen, Ben Davies; Eric Dier, Moussa Dembele; Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min; Harry Kane.
Tottenham subs: Erik Lamela, Victor Wanyama, Michel Vorm, Moussa Sissoko, Fernando Llorente, Serge Aurier, Harry Winks.
STAT ATTACK! Liverpool have lost one of their last 23 home Premier League games against Spurs (W15 D7).
Tottenham are unchanged from their win over Manchester United. Kane leads the line supported by Spurs' frontline trio of Alli, Son and Eriksen. Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele retain their places in front of the back, despite the presence of Wanyama on the bench.Toby Alderweireld remains sidelined therefore Sanchez and Vertonghen continue in the backline. Harry Winks and Serge Aurier return from injury to start on the bench.
STAT ATTACK! Spurs have only lost more Premier League away matches at Old Trafford (21) than they have at Anfield (16).
FLASHBACK! Spurs crushed Liverpool in their meeting earlier this season. Kane notched a brace, while goals from Son and Alli delivered the victory, despite an effort from Salah. Lovren had a day to forget against the England striker and will have an opportunity to get revenge this afternoon.
Liverpool have made two changes from their win over Huddersfield. Both come at the back as Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk come into the fold to replace Joe Gomez, who misses out due to injury, and Joel Matip. Klopp opts against rotating in the middle of the park, keeping faith with Henderson and Milner ahead of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wijnaldum.
HALF-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-0 TOTTENHAM
Mohamed Salah's early strike is the difference between Liverpool and Tottenham at the break in their Premier League clash. Spurs had a nervy start and Eric Dier's attempted backpass fell perfectly for Salah to run on to and slot past Hugo Lloris. The visitors' nerves continued, but the Reds could not expose them further in the opening 45 minutes. Harry Kane has been a spectator for the majority of the first period and Spurs need to figure out a way to get him involved in the second half.
FULL-TIME: LIVERPOOL 2-2 TOTTENHAM
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
DRAMA! After all that - the game ends all square. Liverpool looked dead and buried when Harry Kane stepped up for his first penalty after being on the back foot for the majority of the second half, but he was denied by Loris Karius. The save breathed life into the Reds, who thought they had snatched then win when Mohamed Salah notched his second of the game with a brilliant mazy run and finish. However, the assistant referee correctly spotted a foul on Erik Lamela from Virgil Van Dijk to hand Kane redemption and he did not disappoint again from 12 yards. He notched his 100th Premier League goal in the process of securing a valuable point for Spurs. Salah had given Liverpool an early lead, but they were gradually forced back in the second period. Victor Wanyama scored a stunner to get Tottenham level before the final five minutes of chaos. Both teams will feel that they should have won the contest - therefore a point apiece is probably fair.
