Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Brighton and Arsenal at the Amex Stadium.
Arsenal have endured a week of misery at the hands of Manchester City. The Gunners were soundly beaten by Pep Guardiola's men in the League Cup final last week. However, they were humiliated by City on Thursday, suffering a 3-0 defeat on home soil, conceding all three goals in the first half. Arsene Wenger's men need a response this afternoon to stop their slide.
The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions. However, Chris Hughton's men need to maintain their form to push away from the relegation zone. Their 4-1 win over Swansea last week has left them four points clear of the fray, but given the tight nature of battle of the bottom Brighton have to keep winning.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
BRIGHTON (4-4-1-1): Mathew Ryan; Ezequiel Schelotto, Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy, Gaetan Bong; Anthony Knockaert, Dale Stephens, Davy Propper, Jose Izqueirdo; Pascal Gross; Glenn Murray.
ARSENAL (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Calum Chambers, Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny, Sead Kolasinac; Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere; Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil, Alex Iwobi; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arsenal subs: David Ospina, Rob Holding, Danny Welbeck, Hector Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny, Eddie Nketiah.
Brighton are unchanged from their hammering of Swansea last week. Murray leads the line following his brace as he continues to thrive even at the age of 34, scoring 10 goals this term. Gross, Izquierdo and Knockaert will provide the support in the final third.
STAT! Brighton have won their last two home league meetings against Arsenal, though this will be the first such match since September 1982 (1-0 to the Seagulls).
Arsenal have made three changes to their side that were beaten by City during the week. Chambers, Wilshere and Iwobi come into the fold as Bellerin and Welbeck drop to the bench, while Aaron Ramsey is rested ahead of the Europa League contest against AC Milan next week.
STAT! Brighton have won back-to-back home Premier League games, scoring seven goals in the process. They last won three in a row at home in the top-flight in September 1982.
STAT! Arsenal are unbeaten in 34 Premier League games against newly promoted sides (W29 D5) since a 1-2 loss vs QPR in March 2012.
HALF-TIME: BRIGHTON 2-1 ARSENAL
Brighton hold a 2-1 lead at the break over Arsenal, but will be disappointed with themselves having allowed the Gunners back into the game before the break. The visitors were all over the place at the back to allow Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray to put the Seagulls into a comfortable lead. Chris Hughton's men had further opportunities to extend their advantage, only for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score two minutes before the interval. Laurent Koscielny then hit the post in added time, displaying the fragility of Brighton's advantage. it's still all to play for in the second period.
FULL-TIME: BRIGHTON 2-1 ARSENAL
Brighton secure a vital win in their battle against the drop, which sees them move into the heady heights of 10th place in the Premier League. Chris Hughton's men are seven points clear of the relegation zone, with nine matches remaining in the campaign. Goals from Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray were enough to deliver the three points, despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's effort before the interval. Arsenal lose for the fourth game on the bounce in all competitions. Their campaign descends into further chaos ahead of their Europa League contest against AC Milan next week - a match they cannot afford to lose.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
