We're underway at the Red Bull Arena.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Bundesliga clash between RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich at the Red Bull Arena.
Bayern entered the weekend with the possibility of wrapping up the title, but that chance has gone following Schalke's win over Wolfsburg on Saturday. Jupp Heynckes and his team will have to wait another two weeks before confirming their crown.
Despite a four-match winless run in the Bundesliga, Leipzig still have an opportunity to finish in the top four this term. Ralph Hasenhuttl's men are currently five points off the pace, but a win this afternoon would put them in striking distance. The club secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League by playing out a 1-1 draw with Zenit following their win on home soil. There should be no shortage of confidence for Leipzig, despite Bayern's pedigree.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
LEIPZIG (4-4-2): Peter Gulacsi; Konrad Laimer, Dayotchanculle Upamecano, Stefan Ilsanker, Ibrahima Konate; Kevin Kampl, Diego Demme, Naby Keita, Bruma; Marcel Sabitzer, Yussuf Poulsen.
Leipzig subs: Bernardo, Willi Orban, Emil Forsberg, Timo Werner, Ademola Lookman, Yvon Mvogo, Jean-Kevin Augustin.
BAYERN (4-3-3): Sven Ulreich; Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Sule, Mats Hummels, David Alaba; James Rodriguez, Sebastian Rudy, Arturo Vidal; Thomas Muller, Sandro Wagner, Juan Bernat.
Bayern subs: Franck Ribery, Javi Martinez, Robert Lewandowski, Rafinha, Meritan Shabani, Jerome Boateng, Tom Starke.
Leipzig have made six changes from their side that drew against Zenit on the road during the week. Konate, Laimer, Ilsanker, Kampl, Sabitzer and Poulsen come into the side, with Werner and Augustin among the players dropping to the bench.
Heynckes has also made a number of changes to his side that beat Besiktas during the week. Kimmich, Sule, James, Rudy, Wagner and Bernat start this afternoon, with Lewandowski, Boateng, Rafinha, Ribery and Martinez dropping out of the side.
STAT! Leipzig have lost a club-record three Bundesliga games vs Bayern (no more than one vs. any other side). They’ve been breached 10 times in this fixture – a negative club record.
STAT! Timo Werner is on a seven-game wait for a goal – his longest drought since joining Leipzig. He became the youngest player to make 150 Bundesliga appearances last weekend (22y, 5d).
Bayern are on a 20-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Although they were denied the opportunity to claim the crown this weekend, a win would still put them in position to seal it at home against Dortmund in two weeks. Heynckes' men eased their way into the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a routine win over Besiktas, having already hammered the Turkish side 5-0 at the Allianz Arena. The way Bayern are playing at the moment it will take something special to stop them.
HALF-TIME: LEIPZIG 1-1 BAYERN
It's all square at the break between Leipzig and Bayern at the Red Bull Arena. The visitors took the lead through Sandro Wagner in the 12th minute, but the response from Ralph Hasenhuttl's men has been extremely impressive. The home side created several chances, which they spurned before Naby Keita finally notched the equaliser. Leipzig have been the better side and should be ahead, lacking a crucial clinical edge in the final third. Jupp Heynckes may have a few choice words for his team at the interval.
FULL-TIME: LEIPZIG 2-1 BAYERN
Bayern's unbeaten run in all competition comes to an end after 20 matches. Leipzig have recorded their first win over the Bavaria-based outfit as goals from Naby Keita and Timo Werner secured the three points. Jupp Heynckes' men took the lead through Sandro Wagner, but the home side were resilient and responded through their two stars. They've handed their top four hopes a massive boost, while inflicting just the third league defeat of the Bundesliga campaign on Bayern.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
