We're underway at Goodison Park.
Jurgen Klopp's side have lost just one of their last eight Premier League matches. The defeat came at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford at the beginning of March. Liverpool responded with back-to-back wins over Watford and Crystal Palace. Their Champions League place for next term looks secure, but a third win on the bounce could strengthen their claim for second place.
Liverpool come into the contest fresh off their 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash. The Reds were dominant against Pep Guardiola's men, and they will be aiming to put forward a similar performance against their bitter rivals.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park.
Everton continue to be a polarising team under Sam Allardyce. The former England manager has guided the Toffees to safety, but they remain inconsistent, highlighted by the fact they've won four and lost four of their last eight matches. The club were beaten with ease by City last time out. Allardyce will be looking for a response this afternoon in perhaps a defining match in his reign.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
EVERTON (4-3-3): Jordan Pickford; Seamus Coleman, Phil Jagielka, Michael Keane, Leighton Baines; Wayne Rooney, Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies; Theo Walcott, Cenk Tosun, Yannick Bolasie.
LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Loris Karius; Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, Virjil van Dijk, Ragnar Klavan; Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke, Roberto Firmino.
Liverpool subs: Roberto Firmino, Alberto Moreno, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Simon Mignolet, Curtis Jones, Conor Masterson, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Everton have made one change from their defeat to Manchester City last time out. Davies is recalled to the side in place of Calvert-Lewin, who drops to the bench. Gueye also returns to action on the bench for the Toffees.
Mohamed Salah is not fit enough to play this afternoon, although Klopp is confident that the winger will be fit to face City in the return leg of their Champions League next week. Firmino, Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson and Oxlade-Chamberlain also make way from the side that beat Guardiola's side.
Ings is one of the players that comes into the fold as he makes his first Premier League appearance under Klopp. Solanke, Wijnaldum, Klavan and Clyne get the nod to start this afternoon.
STAT! Seven of Everton’s last eight Premier League defeats at Goodison Park have been against ‘big six’ sides, with the exception being Burnley’s 1-0 win there in October this season.
The teams are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
There will be a minute of applause around the ground before kick-off following the death of Ray Wilkins during the week.
HALF-TIME: EVERTON 0-0 LIVERPOOL
It's goalless at the break between Everton and Liverpool. The Reds have had two good chances to take the lead, but Dominic Solanke and James Milner both saw efforts brilliantly saved by Jordan Pickford. The Toffees had their own moment in front of goal as Yannick Bolasie's strike seemed destined for the net before Loris Karius turned it past the post. Liverpool have been comfortable in possession, with Everton needing to force the issue in the second period.
FULL-TIME: EVERTON 0-0 LIVERPOOL
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
The Merseyside derby ends all square as Liverpool extend their unbeaten record in the fixture to 17 matches. The Reds could have won all three points if not for Jordan Pickford, who made two fine saves to deny James Milner and Dominic Solanke in the first half. Loris Karius also made a brilliant stop to prevent Yannick Bolasie finding the net, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun were guilty of missing chances late on for the hosts. A solid point for Liverpool, but a frustrating afternoon for those in blue.
