Ligue 1: Rennes 3 Nice 1

Rennes kept their hopes of European football going strong on Monday with a 3-1 win over Nice in France's Ligue 1.

First-half strikes from Julien Feret and Tongo Doumbia had the home fans at the Stade de la Route-de-Lorient celebrating, although Nice pulled a goal back just before the hour mark when Francois Clerc latched on to a nice pass from Eric Mouloungui and slotted past Benoit Costil.

Rennes eventually made sure of all three points in the 82nd minute when Jonathan Pitroipa picked up a long ball from Romain Danze and fired past David Ospina in the Nice goal.

The win moves Rennes to within two points of fourth-placed Lyon in the race for France's Europa League berth, while Nice are in 14th position but just one point clear of the drop zone.

Rennes are away to Brest on Saturday in their next match, while Nice play host to bottom side Auxerre the same day.
