Ravanelli wanted Marseille job

Fabrizio Ravanelli has spoken of his disappointment at not being considered for the coaching position at Marseille.

The role was made vacant following Didier Deschamps' decision to step down at the end of the previous campaign, and it was reported that the former Italy striker, who spent three successful years at the Stade Velodrome, would be approached for talks.

However, Marseille eventually plumped for ex-Bordeaux and Toulouse boss Elie Baup, much to the chagrin of Ravanelli, who admitted he had set his sights on landing the job but was left disheartened at not being seen as a candidate.

"You must ask the club, ask the leaders of OM (why I wasn't contacted)," Ravanelli told Goal.com. "I tried to get in touch, but it was unsuccessful.

"Now it's over. I'm still in love with l'OM and if tomorrow I was offered (the job), I would take it, but it does not depend on me."

Ravanelli, who also played for Derby County and Lazio, sent his best wishes to Marseille's new boss and hinted that he had envisioned a series of changes for the club, but instead will now resume his work at the Juventus Center in Vinovo.

"I wish him well but I cannot tell you what I would have changed at Marseille," Ravanelli said.

"I can just tell you that I will continue my work at the Juve training centre. I'll be there next season."
