Al Wasl deny huge Maradona pay-out

17 July 2012 09:23

Al Wasl have reportedly moved to quell South American speculation of a massive 14 million-euro pay-out for sacked coach Diego Maradona.

The Dubai outfit dismissed the Argentine legend after only one season of his two-year contract with the club, where they finished without a trophy and down in eighth place in the 12-team UAE Pro-League.

Reports from South America had claimed Maradona believed he was owed a massive compensation pay-out but an Al Wasl official told Sport360 he would only receive two months pay.

"A formal contract between club and coach is with the UAE Football Association. It stipulates that if his contract is terminated in the second year of his contract he will receive compensation of two months salary, at Dh1.6m (354,000 euros) only," the source said, according to the report.

"Because the monthly salary provided in the formal contract is Dh800,000 only. Rumours in the Argentine press are unfounded."
