Spanish U19s return home heroes

17 July 2012 17:36

Spain have returned home after emulating their senior counterparts at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

Julen Lopetegui's side beat Greece 1-0 in Estonia to secure their sixth title in 11 years and their second in succession.

Real Madrid winger Jese Rodriguez struck the winner 10 minutes from time, ensuring a repeat of Spain's 2007 final win over Greece by the same score.

Rodriguez, 19, claimed the Golden Boot with four goals from five matches.

"I keep the picture of us together with the cup," Rodriguez said.

"We are a team, that's the most important thing.

"When you play well as a team you always have a chance to win trophies and hopefully this team can build on that success."

Spain dominated possession at Tallinn's Lillekula Stadium before Rodriguez's calm finish sealed the result.

"The guys have been fantastic," Lopetegui said.

"They have worked really hard, it was not easy and finally they have won in a brilliant way, with the style we all want.

"I am so proud of them and they deserve every success that comes their way."
