And we're off!
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today's Premier League clash between Leicester City and Manchester United. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up-to-date with all of the action from the King Power Stadium.
Life under Louis Van Gaal continues to throw up surprises, but his new-look Manchester United side finally seem to be finding their feet after a turbulent opening few weeks under the Dutchman. The Red Devils were given a boost of confidence last weekend when they comfortably thrashed Queens Park Rangers 4-0 at Old Trafford to pick up their first league win of the season, and Van Gaal will be hoping that his side can build on last week's victory by seeing off another newly-promoted side in Leicester this afternoon.
It won't be easy, however, as today's hosts have marked their return to the Premier League after a 10 year absence by putting in a string of fantastic performances. Spirited displays against both Everton and Arsenal earned Nigel Pearson's side vital draws, and last weekend their hard work was rewarded with a 1-0 win against Stoke City thanks to Argentine striker Leonardo Ulloa's third goal in four league games. Manchester United's makeshift defence have looked poor this season, and the former Brighton & Hove Albion man will be hoping to increase his goal-scoring tally today in what is sure to be an extremely interesting game.
There's just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let's have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon...
Leicester City XI (4-1-4-1): Schmeichel; De Laet, Morgan, Moore, Konchesky; Cambiasso; Nugent, Hammond, Drinkwater, Vardy; Ulloa.
Leicester City substitutes: Hamer, Wasilewski, King, James, Schlupp, Mahrez, Wood.
Manchester United XI (4-1-3-2): De Gea; Rafael, Evans, Blackett, Rojo; Blind; Herrera, Rooney, Di Maria; Falcao, Van Persie.
Manchester United substitutes: Lindegaard, Shaw, Smalling, Fletcher, Valencia, Mata, Januzaj.
As for Manchester United, Van Gaal has made just one change to the side that started last Sunday's victory against Queens Park Rangers, with Radamel Falcao coming in to make his first start for the club in place of Juan Mata, who drops to the substitutes' bench.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch ahead of kick-off. The atmosphere at the King Power Stadium is fantastic, with the home fans in particularly fine voice.
Leicester boss Pearson has decided to make four changes to the side that won 1-0 against Stoke last weekend, with Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Drinkwater and Jamie Vardy all returning to the starting line-up to replace Ben Hamer, Riyad Mahrez and Jeffrey Schlupp. Meanwhile, Andy King makes way for Argentine veteran Esteban Cambiasso, who makes his first start for the Foxes since his summer move from Inter Milan.
HALF-TIME: LEICESTER CITY 1-2 MANCHESTER UNITED
What a fantastic half that was! Manchester United have looked brilliant in attack, resulting in two fantastic goals from Van Persie and Di Maria, but Leicester have looked equally as good, especially when they break away on quick counter-attacks. The visitors' weakness in defence is still causing them plenty of problems, and it wouldn't be a surprise if Leicester are able to grab themselves at least one more goal when the two sides return for the second half.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half.
FULL-TIME: LEICESTER CITY 5-3 MANCHESTER UNITED
What an absolutely fantastic game! Leicester fully deserve the historic victory after a wonderful team performance that left the weak and depleted Manchester United back four with no chance whatsoever. Van Gaal's decision to concentrate on other areas of the pitch instead of the centre of defence in the summer continues to haunt him, as Ulloa, Nugent and Vardy continually ran rings around Blackett, Evans and Smalling, leaving them confused and disorganised. Whilst the visitors looked impressive when attacking, their season is only going to go from bad to worse if their defensive frailties are not quickly sorted out.
Many thought that Leicester would struggle in the early part of the season, but the newly-promoted side have now avoided defeats against Everton, Arsenal and Manchester United, leaving them in sixth place with eight points ahead of three winnable games against Crystal Palace, Burnley and Newcastle United. As for a clearly frustrated Manchester United, they now face West Ham United next weekend before what is bound to be an extremely tough clash against Everton in two weeks' time.
My name's Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you today. Until next time, goodbye!
