We're underway in Bari.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the international friendly clash between Italy and France in Bari.
Both teams return to action for the first time since Euro 2016, with the Azzurri poised to play their opening game under new manager Giampiero Ventura following Antonio Conte's exit to Chelsea.
France will aim to put the disappointment of their defeat in the final of Euro 2016 behind them. Didier Deschamps' men came close to securing victory on home soil, only to be denied by Portugal and Eder in extra-time at the Stade de France.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Italy (3-5-2): Buffon; Barzagli, Astori, Chiellini; Candreva, Bonaventura, Parolo, De Rossi, De Sciglio; Eder, Pelle.
Leonardo Bonucci is absent from Italy's line-up this evening for family reasons, allowing Davide Astori to start as part of the back three. Giacomo Bonaventura comes into the midfield along with the regulars that featured at the Euros, while Eder and Graziano Pelle continue to lead the line.
There's good news on the bench for Ventura as Marco Verratti continues his comeback from injury, and could feature this evening. Riccardo Montolivo is also an option on the bench after a spell on the sidelines.
Didier Deschamps is without injured keeper Hugo Lloris, which sees Crystal Palace stopper Steve Mandanda start between the sticks. Djibril Sidibe and Layvin Kurzawa get the start in the full-back positions as Les Bleus appear to be heading away from Bacary Sagna and Patrice Evra, who were not named in the squad.
Raphael Varane makes a welcome return to the back four after missing the Euros due to injury, while elsewhere the players that featured prominently during the tournament start in their usual places for their country.
The players are making their way out on to the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
A proud moment for Ventura as stands on the sideline singing the national anthem for the first time as Italy boss.
HALF-TIME: ITALY 1-2 FRANCE
France take a 2-1 lead into the break in Bari thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Olivier Giroud. Graziano Pelle had brought the Azzurri back into the match four minutes after the Manchester United man opened the scoring, only for Giroud to restore his side's advantage with a good finish.
The balance of play has been pretty even, while the defending has been poor at times from both sides. Ventura and Deschamps will not be overly pleased with what they have seen thus far, although Les Bleus' manager will be satisfied to be taking a lead into the break.
The players are making their way back out on to the field, so we should be underway shortly.
FULL-TIME: ITALY 1-3 FRANCE
Giampiero Ventura's reign as Italy boss begins with a 3-1 defeat to France. Goals from Anthony Martial, Olivier Giroud and Layvin Kurzawa were enough to hand Les Bleus the victory this evening, while Graziano Pelle got on the scoresheet for the home side.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
There was not a great deal between the sides, but Ventura will want to see an improvement in both penalty areas for his team's upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Didier Deschamps will be satisfied with the result, although the display was not perfect by any means.
