KICK-OFF: Roma get us underway here at the El Madrigal.
Good evening and welcome to our Live Text Commentary coverage of the Europa League last-32 first-leg between Villarreal and Roma.
Roma come into the game having won four of their last five including a thumping 4-0 over Fiorentina.
Villarreal however had endured mixed fortunes over their previous five fixtures recording just one win.
Villarreal substitutes: Rodri, Rukavina, Cheryshev, Gonzalez, Adrian Lopez, Fernandez, Borre.
Villarreal starting XI: Asenjo(GK), Mario, Musacchio, V. Ruiz, J. Costa; dos Santos, Manu Trigueros, Bruno Soriano, Castillejo; Bakambu, Sansone. The hosts start with a classic 4-4-2 formation.
Roma starting XI: Alisson(GK), Manolas, Fazio, Rudiger; Bruno Peres, De Rossi, Strootman, Emerson; Nainggolan, Dzeko, El Shaarawy. A 3-4-3 set-up from the visitors.
Roma substitutes: Szczesny, Leandro Paredes, Juan Jesus, Rui, Salah, Totti, Perotti.
Roma forward Edin Dzeko will be looking to add to his five Europa League goals this season. The Bosnian has started just two games in the competition so far this season.
Villarreal's forwards have had problems in this competition with front line duo Nicola Sansone and Cedric Bakambu finding the net just once between them.
HALF-TIME: Roma take a slender 1-0 lead into the break courtesy of Emerson's stunning effort. Both sides have had their chances in what has been a thoroughly entertaining first half of football.
FULL-TIME: Villarreal suffer their heaviest ever home European defeat as they are humuliated at the hands of Roma. A 20-minute trio from Edin Dzeko put the game, and probably the tie, beyond the home side. Emerson got the home side going with a screamer in the first half. Villarreal had their chances but never worked Alisson in the Roma goal. It has finished at El Madrigal Villarreal 0 Roma 4.
Villarreal will need to produce something special in Rome next week if they are to overturn the four-goal deficit. They have been left embarrassed tonight, and with a top four finish in LaLiga looking increasingly unlikely, their season may-well build down to a battle for the top six, with progression in Europe all-but out of the question.
For Roma, their red-hot form continues, suffering just one defeat since Christmas and have reeled off their fourth straight win in all competitions. Dzeko brings his personal tally of goals to 21 for the season in all competitions, he was deadly in the second half.
That's all from me tonight. Thank you for joining us tonight for this Europa League last-32 first-leg match.
