Czech Republic sit four points adrift of Northern Ireland for the final qualifying spot in their group and, with the Germans as their opponents; they will be hard put to keep themselves in contention tonight.
They were soundly beaten 3-0 in their first meeting of the qualifiers and have lost six of their previous seven competitive meetings with the World Champions. A result tonight could keep them in contention for a qualifying place and put pressure on Northern Ireland, who they face on Monday.
Germany have so far breezed through their qualifying group, sitting nine points clear of their third-placed opponents having won all of their games so far and scoring an impressive 27 goals in the process.
A win tonight for Joachim Low’s side will effectively secure qualification for next summer World Cup with three games to spare and potentially the freedom to give more players the chance to impress on the national stage.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…Home XI
Only five players retain their starting spot from Czech Republic’s 1-1 draw with Norway in their previous qualifier as head coach Karel Jarolim opts for a more defensive approach against tonight’s opponents.
Joachim Low has also made a large number of changes against for tonight’s qualier with the likes of Julian Draxler and Emre Can taking their place on the bench in favour of Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller, amongh a number of others.
The two sides are out on the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF TIME: CZECH REPUBLIC 0-1 GERMANY
Germany took an early lead on the fourth minute but the Czech Republic responded well to going behind and looked the more threatening throughout the rest of the first-half. They will be frustrated that they haven't equalised but as things stand they are still in with a chance of qualifying for next summer's World Cup.
Both sides are heading back onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second-half.
FULL TIME: CZECH REPUBLIC 1-2 GERMANY
Czech Republic fought well and deservedly equalised late in the second-half through a superb long-ranged effort by Darida. Despite a generally poor performance throughout, the Germans still rescued all three points with Hummels' excellent header and the Czech's will be left to rue a number of missed opportunities while they had the upper hand. Qualification is effectively sealed for Germany but the Czech Republic's hopes lie in their must-win tie against Northern Ireland on Monday.
