Kruse put the Socceroos in a winning position late in the first half, however, it was all Syria in the second half, as they ran riot in the right side with an equalizer scored by Al-Soma courtesy of a penalty. In the end the sides just could not be split. The second leg will be played at Stadium Australia on Tuesday October 10.
