We're under at John Smith's Stadium.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Huddersfield Town and Mancheser City at John Smith's Stadium.
Huddersfield's inconsistent form this season reared its head last week as the Terriers were hammered 4-0 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. David Wagner's men are still performing well this season and are sitting just below the top half of the table, but they cannot afford to enter a slump that could knock them off course. They face one of their biggest challenges this afternoon, although they did beat Manchester United on their visit in October.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Kompany, Delph; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva; Sterling, Aguero, Sane.
City subs: Bravo, Danilo, Gundogan, Mangala, Bernardo Silva, Jesus, Zinchenko.
Huddersfield have made three changes from their defeat to Bournemouth last time out. Christopher Schindler comes back into the fold after serving his suspension, while Tommy Smith and Jonathan Hogg also get the nod to start this afternoon.
Guardiola has made five changes from the side that beat Feyenoord during the week. Fabian Delph and Vincent Kompany come into the back four, while David Silva and Fernandinho return to the middle of the park. Leroy Sane joins Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero as part of the front three.
HUDDERSFIELD (4-2-3-1): Lossl; Smith, Jorgensen, Schindler, Malone; Hogg, Williams; Ince, Mooy, Van La Parra; Depoitre.
STAT ATTACK! Manchester City beat Huddersfield 10-1 in a league match in November 1987 – to date, it’s the last time a club has scored 10+ goals in an English league match.
FLASHBACK! Huddersfield held City to a goalless draw in an FA Cup fifth round tie at the John Smith’s Stadium last season, before losing the replay 5-1 at the Etihad.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: HUDDERSFIELD 1-0 MANCHESTER CITY
Huddersfield take a 1-0 lead into the break against Manchester City in the hope of ending Pep Guardiola's run of 17-straight wins in all competitions. The Terriers have defended well at the back and have been aided by poor finishing from City, with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Fernandinho all guilty of spurning chances. David Wagner's men made them pay for their miscues in front of the net as Tom Ince's corner was deflected into his own net by Nicolas Otamendi on the stroke of half-time.
Manchester City have won their last 10 Premier League matches on the bounce and have dropped just two points all season. Their only failure to win came against Everton in the second week of the campaign. Since then Pep Guardiola's men have been unstoppable, holding a five-point lead at the top of the table.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
FULL-TIME: HUDDERSFIELD 1-2 MANCHESTER CITY
Drama after the full-time whistle as Van La Parra is sent off for the Terriers for raising his hands to Sane's face. The German gets a booking for his part in the incident.
Manchester City come from behind to earn their 18th win on the bounce in all competitions. A strike from Sergio Aguero from the penalty spot and a fortunate effort from Raheem Sterling guided Pep Guardiola's men to the win that takes them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League. Huddersfield battled well this afternoon and can be proud of their efforts, especially after going ahead through Nicolas Otamendi's own goal. However, the pressure of the waves of City attacks proved to be too much for them to handle in the second half.
