Huddersfield kick off again but it's short-lived; after two passes, referee Scott looks at his watch and blows the whistle for full-time, to end a great second-half for the Foxes and a torrid game to forget for the Terriers.
90' +2
M. Albrighton has scored a goal for Leicester City!
And he gets it this time! Marc Albrighton drills home from short distance as an attempted clearance by Mooy from a Silva cross falls straight to his feet in front of goal. No missing from this distance - and this time, the grin is one of relief. Leicester make it three goals this half - and run out emphatic winners at the King Power Stadium.
90' +1
Albrighton scores! Wait, no, it's another disallowed goal - and the Foxes man grins ruefully, as replays show the ball fed by Silva was offside. That would have been a fine match-capper for the Leicester player.
90'
Three added minutes on the way.
89'
Silva now concedes his first foul as a Leicester player, albeit so deep in Huddersfield territory that the Foxes need not worry about it. Lossl pumps it deep, looking for anyone - and instead, Fuchs comes up with the ball.
87'
There's a massive cheer for Silva as he makes his first touch - a neat pass to Gray - and Leicester look utterly in control as the minutes take down. Huddersfield will need a miracle to salvage anything here.
86'
Adrien Silva enters the game and replaces M. James.
Leicester make their final change, and it's a big one; after a prolonged four months, Adrien Silva makes his debut for the club, having finally completed his signing today, replacing Matty James.
84'
S. Malone gets yellow.
It's a booking for Malone now as he bodychecks Amartey to halt a counter-attack, a move Graham Scott does not take kindly to.
83'
Almost three for the Foxes! Gray puts a cross on that Amartey cuts inside for from the right and heads into the near post, deflected out for a goal-kick. What a chance for the right-back.
82'
L. Depoitre enters the game and replaces T. Smith.
Minute
Description
81'
The final change for Huddersfield now; Tom Smith is off, and Laurent Depoitre is on. Can he claw one back?
79'
Okazaki! A golden chance for the Leicester man again as he is fed a flat pass into the box from Gray and proceeds to dribble round two defenders - only for Mooy to cut back in before he can launch the shot from ten yards out and steal the ball.
77'
D. Gray enters the game and replaces R. Mahrez.
And Leicester make their second change too, with Riyad Mahrez - who sparked the Foxes into life once more this afternoon after early woes - replaced by Demarai Gray.
76'
S. Malone enters the game and replaces C. Löwe.
Wagner makes his second change with Huddersfield's arguable standout Chris Lowe heading off and Scott Malone on in his place.
74'
Huddersfield are holding the ball well for the first time in about half-an-hour, though little in the way of chances is coming. Williams blows one over the crossbar from 25 yards out on the right; a poor, sloppy effort that rather sums up his side's showing today, tired and lagging across the pitch.
72'
Mounie tumbles in the Leicester box now, and claims a penalty for a hefty touch from Maguire, only for referee Scott to wave away his claims, much to his frustration.
70'
It's not a great effort from Mahrez, who plays it straight into the first man - Lowe - at the edge of the box. Huddersfield clear - but only after a quick scare as the ball falls to a couple of Leicester players lurking around the fringes of the 18 yard area.
68'
Schindler rises in the Huddersfield box to clear another Albrighton cross, this time aimed for Okazaki - and in the process, concedes a corner. Mahrez to take...
66'
A counter-attack nearly works for the Terriers now, as Mounie breaks through Leicester's midfield with a well-placed Mooy pass. The pair try for a one-two into the box next - and neither manage to spot Fuchs doubling in off the wing to cut in and pinch their pockets, which he duly does.
64'
Albrighton floats a cross in looking for Slimani by the far right post from some 30 yards out on the left; Lossl punches it clear with desperation as Huddersfield's defence fail to get back in time again.
62'
Huddersfield look absolutely shell-shocked. The hosts have torn them appart with comfortable ease inside ten minutes, and exposed their relatively lazy line-speed in midfield and defence far too easily. It's a long way back now for the Terriers.
60'
I. Slimani has scored a goal for Leicester City! Assist by R. Mahrez.
Credit to Mahrez too; the original goalscorer saw the lack of pace in that back four and exploited it with the ruthlessness that once made Leicester champions of the Premier League. What a touch.
Leicester makes it two! What a nightmare for Huddersfield; their back four is caught out by the most telegraphed of moves in midfield as Mahrez plays a ball from the centre circle downfield. None of them can get there in time to prevent a rampaging Slimani from cutting across and sweeping it up - and then the striker repeats that cheeky little chip Okazaki played only moments ago to poke it over Lossl. 2-0 to the Foxes.
59'
C. Quaner enters the game and replaces J. Lolley.
David Wagner makes a change now too, as he looks to claw something back; the rather anonymous Joe Lolley is off and Collin Quaner takes his place.
58'
That looked like a tough call from the angle Scott would have seen it at, and no wonder Okazaki feels hard done by - that goal could have killed the game off for good. Leicester remain one ahead, as Huddersfield now get a free-kick on halfway.
56'
Okazaki now breaks, to catch a long ball heading downfield - and edges round Smith who slips and chips it into the top-right corner past Lossl! But the goal is disallowed! The Leicester man is pulled back for a foul on Smith, with referee Graham Scott citing a push on the Huddersfield man. That could have been 2-0 in the blink of an eye.
54'
It's going to be a tough ask now for Huddersfield to find their way back into this one if they continue to play the way they have so far. The Terriers have never looked likely to get near the goal - and David Wagner must surely be thinking of a change now that they are one down.
53'
R. Mahrez has scored a goal for Leicester City! Assist by M. Albrighton.
Marc Albrighton, take a bow too. That cross back in - more of an ad-hoc overhead kick that looked to stop any potential counter-attack from a clearance in the box by Huddersfield - has helped give hs side a much-needed lead at this crucial juncture. What a piece of play.
Mahrez breaks the deadlock! Leicester's talisman on the pitch finishes an absolutely outrageous overhead cross from Albrighton outside the box on the left with a half-volley six yards out on the right that sneaks past Lossl at the far post. What a goal to spark the Foxes into life here. They lead 1-0.
52'
Albrighton scythes down the left flank for the hosts, looking to pull back in and push a cross into the box for Okazaki; instead, he is bullied out of play by Smith, and the visitors get the throw.
50'
Slimani goes close! Oh, what a chance for Leicester as their striker puts a header straight to Lossl from barely six yards in front, supplied by a lovely cross back in from Mahrez. Neither can believe it; the latter looks absolutely furious.
49'
Ince comes up with the ball some 25 yards out in front of goal after Van La Parra works it away from Albrighton and the Terriers man goes for goal - only for his shot to rebound straight downfield off Maguire.
47'
It's the Foxes who make the earlier pressure tell, as Mahrez muscles up and earns a corner against Schindler. He swings it into the box and Lossl punches it away - but only to Fuchs, whose shot back in is deflected off Okazaki and out for a goal-kick.
46'
And we're back underway at the King Power Stadium. Can either side find the spark to light up the start of 2018 or are we heading towards a damp squib of a goalless game instead?
45' +2
Lowe earns Huddersfield a throw deep on their left edge now, opposite the Leicester box. Though Mooy plays it wide to the right flank before trying to bring it back in, James is quick to intercede and pump it long for a throw-in. Van La Parra tries to take but the clock ticks over and the referee blows for half-time!
45'
Two added minutes coming due to Morgan's injury.
44'
Huddersfield get another throw-in, this time on their left edge - and again, Leicester pick their pocket from Lowe's sub-par effort, turning it into a counter-attack that pushes them deep down the opposite side of the field before Mooy cuts across to force another throw.
42'
Slimani scuffs a long ball pumped his way by Dragovic in midfield and puts it out for a cheap throw under little pressure. Mahrez recovers though and Leicester reform their attack.
40'
It's been far from an inspired showing by either team as we edge closer to half-time in Leicestershire. The hosts have shown more initiative than the visitors so far but neither look particularly capable of a breakthrough.
38'
Lowe lofts a ball over the Leicester midfield and finds Mounie, who looks to land a deft touch; only for it to trickle off his foot to Maguire, who clears via the foot of Schmeichel.
36'
Fuchs puts it over the wall - and straight to Lossl who comes off his line and rises to meet it.
35'
The intensity of the game has dropped off a little for the moment with those breaks for injury; though both sides are starting to look lazier in defence. Leicester get another free-kick off a silly Van La Parra challenge and Fuchs looks to turns it into the box.
33'
It's Slimani who goes the closest in the end, with Town failing to clear in the huddle. His shot runs wide to the right however, and Huddersfield breathe easy once more.
32'
Fuchs earns a throw deep in Terriers territory now, as Okazaki returns to the field. Players head on en masse into the Huddersfield box...
30'
Now Okazaki appears to be in trouble, going down under a soft challenge from Zanka on the edge of the Huddersfield box. In all fairness to the Leicester man, it does look painful; he tumbles and lands on his wrist awkwardly, requiring a brief absence to have it taped up.
29'
Play resumes and Leicester bomb their throw straight into the box, where Maguire rises to meet it - and head it wide to the right. Goal kick to Huddersfield.
28'
A. Dragović enters the game and replaces W. Morgan.
It's Aleksandar Dragovic who takes the captain's place on the field for the Foxes; an injury they really could have down without at this stage of the game.
27'
A stoppage in play now as medical staff attend to Morgan who does indeed appear to be nursing an injury from his yellow card-related tackle. Claude Puel may be having to make an early change here.
26'
Corner for Leicester - the first of the afternoon. Albrighton swings it in, straight into the huddle of players crowded in the box, where Schindler heads it away from the left to the right for a throw-in.
24'
W. Morgan gets yellow.
Morgan gets booked for a weighty challenge on Lolley now, with the Leicester captain appealing that he was fouled instead. Huddersfield's free-kick is poor though; Lowe puts it long and sends it straight to the keeper Schmeichel.
22'
Williams! An absolutely golden chance for the Town man, running onto a play-back pass from Mounie at the lip of the box. He blasts it hard - and wide, beating both the fingertips of the keeper and running out past the post on the left.
20'
The Terriers look to push in from their possession and Van La Parra makes a great run down the touchline, only for his cross into the box to be picked out by Schmeichel at the far left post easily.
19'
Williams earns a free-kick out on the far right flank, and then earns a throw as Maguire deflects it.
17'
A cluster of red shirts huddled to the left of midfield means Leicester are able to circumvent Huddersfield's lax structure there; and the Foxes are only stopped when Albrighton brings down Zanka, trying to reclaim a long ball from James. David Wagner may have to rethink his gameplan so far.
15'
Mahrez dribbles a good thirty yards down the right edge, trying to cut round Lowe and Schindler at the back. In the end, he finds himself forced to the line and his attempted cross sails out over the net, not troubling Lossl in the slightest.
13'
It nearly goes wrong at the back for Town a moment later; Mahrez comes up with the ball after a long drive down the field from Maguire, with only Lowe to beat. The left-back does enough to retake possession - but Huddersfield caught napping there.
11'
Huddersfield seem to be lacking the get-up-and-go of the opening exchanges at the moment, pinned back in their midfield by their hosts. Ince tries to sneak one down the wing and then puts a sitter of a cross in for Mounie - who with only the keeper to beat, can't reach the ball in time with a slow jog. Poor stuff from the Terriers.
9'
No Vardy of course today for Leicester; the England man and former FWA Footballer of the Year is out with a groin problem. It gives Slimani the chance to justify his £30million price tag at least for the Foxes...
7'
Slimani! The striker goes close, this time connecting with an Albrighton cross played in from the left wing, and his header forces Lossl to tip it over the crossbar with a leap. Free-kick to the Terriers though; the Foxes man was just offside by a whisker.
5'
Zanka doubles back at a brilliant pace to plant his head onto an Albrighton cross, deflecting it back into open play as the Foxes man looked to find Slimani up front.
4'
Free-kick to Huddersfield now, some 30 yards out on their left flank for a clumsy tackle by Ndidi. Lowe hefts it into the box, looking for a header; Maguire clears with one of his own.
2'
First chance to the visitors; Ince lays a fine flat ball across the face of the Leicester box that Lowe wraps a left-footer around and puts straight to the keeper, central in goal. Moments later, Okazaki blasts a half-volley fed by Morgan down the left out and wide of Lossl at the other end.
1'
And we're underway! Leicester are playing from left to right in their traditional home strip of all blue; Huddersfield are decked out in a red number with snazzy black hoops.
Hello and Happy New Year to you all as the Premier League rolls into 2018, with out-of-form Leicester looking to get a first win in five over Huddersfield Town. A win for the Terriers will draw them level with the Foxes; but can David Wagner find his side a first away victory against Claude Puel’s men since 1954? Kick-off is just around the corner.
This is the Foxes’ first home game on New Year’s Day for five years; they last played at the King Power Stadium at the dawn of January in 2013, in the Championship. The opponents? Huddersfield Town, whom they drubbed 6-1 on their way to a play-off finish.
Laurent Depoitre has scored in his last two away league games – the last Terriers player to score in three consecutive league games on the road was Nahki Wells in April 2014. In addition, Tom Ince finally found the back of the net for the first time this season against Stoke just before Christmas, having clocked over 40 attempts on goal previously without reward.
After a turbulent 16-17 campaign, Riyad Mahrez has returned to form two years on from his title-winning heroics; he has been directly involved in 12 goals in the Premier League (six goals, six assists), three more than he managed in the whole season prior (six goals, three assists).
After winning four in a row under new boss Puel, the Foxes have since gone four Premier League games without a win (D1 L3) and have lost consecutive league games for the first time since September. They haven’t lost to a newly promoted Premier League side though since August 2011, unbeaten in 13 since a 5-0 defeat to Bolton.
There’s never been a draw in 14 previous top-flight meetings between these sides in Leicester, with Huddersfield winning eight to Leicester’s six. However, this is the first such meeting in close to half-a-century – the pair haven’t faced each other on the Foxes’ turf since October 1971.
Teams are out at the King Power Stadium and we’re moments away from getting underway…
It's been far from a vintage game on a wet and windy New Year's Day at the King Power Stadium. Drab and dreary, with the occasional spark from the hosts, neither side has looked particularly hungry for the points - so can managers Puel and Wagner light the fire during the break? At half-time, it's Leicester City 0-0 Huddersfield Town.
At half-time, the hunt for a win looked to still be on for Claude Puel; but three superb goals from Mahrez, Slimani and Albrighton gave Leicester a much deserved win at the King Power Stadium this afternoon. The Foxes extend their unbeaten run against newly-promoted sides to 14 games in the Premier League - and as for Huddersfield, it will be a long cold journey back to Yorkshire this New Year's Day. Full-time, it finishes Leicester City 3-0 Huddersfield Town.
Teams are in ahead of what could be a defining game for both sides this season. If Leicester win, they will exit the relegation conversation for now, if not for good, going into the second half of the campaign; a Huddersfield victory would take them to five unbeaten in a row in the top flight, extending their best ever streak in the Premier League and bolstering their own survival chances. In addition, the Foxes have finally completed the transfer of Adrien Silva - and with Jamie Vardy absent through a groin injury, he could make his first appearance at the King Power Stadium today.
Those three points will give Leicester a spring in their step as they tangle with Chelsea in just under a fortnight - though first, they face off with Fleetwood in the FA Cup. As for Huddersfield, they too have some knockout football to attend to - against Bolton on Saturday - before they return to the Premier League, facing off against David Moyes and West Ham. Until then however, thank you for joining us - and a Happy New Year!
