The ball sails into the penalty area for a Newcastle player but a weak header is all that can be mustered – which Lloris grabs well. The referee blows his whistle for the final time tonight and Tottenham escape with a victory!

Lamela is shown a yellow card after a cynical stamp on the foot of Joselu.

Victor Wanyama appears to have picked up a slight injury, and Danny Rose is on to replace him with three minutes left in the match.

Ritchie tries an audacious outside-of-the-boot cross which is cut out well by Sanchez. Possession returns to Newcastle who switch the attack to the other wing before the final ball is put out for a Lloris goal-kick following a poor attempt at goal.
83'
T. Alderweireld enters the game and replaces K. Trippier.
Toby Alderweireld is sent on to replace Kieran Trippier who is indeed unable to play out the last seven minutes.

Description
76'
Joselu enters the game and replaces D. Gayle.
Rafa Benitez makes his second substitution – also an attacking one – as Joselu comes on to replace Dwight Gale.
73'
M. Ritchie gets yellow.
Matt Ritchie is shown a yellow card by the referee for a crunching tackle in midfield.
72'
MURPHY’S IMPACT IS ALMOST IMMEDIATE! Jacob Murphy uses his pace to race down the left wing, beating Sanchez and turning into the penalty area. The winger then fires a shot from close range but it sails over the crossbar – much to the delight of Lloris.
71'
J. Murphy enters the game and replaces Kenedy.
Newcastle make the first substitution of the match, with Jacob Murphy coming on to replace Kenedy.
68'
The corner amounts to nothing as the ball is met first by a Newcastle player. It is cleared deep and eventually comes to the foot of Lloris, who sends it right back for Son who is called for a foul following an aerial duel in midfield.
67'
Lascelles puts his head in the way of Son’s foot and clears the ball for a Tottenham corner instead of allowing the forward to take a volleyed effort from an acute angle inside the penalty area.
65'
With a half hour left to play, Newcastle’s players must be absolutely drained. They have been chasing shadows for most of the match, rarely getting a kick of the ball. Tottenham’s slow style today is now working to their advantage, as they are comfortably protecting their lead.
62'
Son finds Kane in the penalty area but the striker is crowded out and the ball goes back to the midfield line. Tottenham recycle play and go forward once again, but the attack breaks down with a Dubravka save on a weak Alli shot taken from just inside the area.
59'
HOW HAVE NEWCASTLE NOT SCORED!? Yedlin sends a ball into the penalty area and Perez fluffs his shot from the six-yard area. Ritchie dives in to hammer home the rebound but Lloris closes down the space well. The ensuing corner is whipped in by Shelvey but volleyed wide of the goalkeeper’s post.
57'
D. Alli gets yellow.
Alli is shown the first yellow card of the match for protesting a foul called on Davies after he takes Ritchie down with a slide tackle.
55'
Eriksen swings in a corner from the right and its Wanyama who rises highest to meet it, but his header goes over the top of the crossbar.
50'
H. Kane has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur! Assist by Son Heung-Min.
HARRY KANE GETS HIS GOAL! Kane gets the ball to Son just as the South Korea international enters the penalty area. After taking a touch and dragging a defender closer, Son returns the ball to Kane whose first-time curler beats Dubravka in the top corner! 1-0 Tottenham!
Son’s assist is perfectly weighted for Kane, who was provided very little time to dispatch his shot.
48'
Spurs are being pressed well in midfield by a disciplined Newcastle, which is forcing Tottenham to turn around and play it back to Lloris who then sends a long ball into the heart of the Magpie defence. There has been very little creativity from the home side despite Eriksen and Alli on the pitch.
47'
Ayoze Perez has stayed down after a heavy challenge in midfield by Vertonghen. The striker is walking very gingerly, but it doesn’t seem serious enough for any treatment. Play restarts with a Newcastle free-kick in midfield.
46'
Tottenham get the match restarted from the kick-off!
44'
With a minute to go until half time, it doesn’t look like we will get a breakthrough in the first 45. Tottenham currently control possession but as is typical today, it seems they are passing just for the sake of it.
42'
IT SHOULD BE 1-0 TOTTENHAM! Kane latches onto Lloris’ drop-kick in the Newcastle penalty area and draws Dubravka out of his goal. The striker is unable to connect with the bouncing ball and he fluffs his volley, allowing the goalkeeper to grab it easily out of the air.
40'
Kane uses the set-piece to pass it along the box for Trippier who is waiting on the right-hand side of the box. The right-back curls in a cross that is met by Sissoko – but the midfielder sends his header over the crossbar. With five minutes until half time, it remains 0-0.
39'
Eriksen wins a free-kick in a dangerous area after Gayle uses his shoulder to take down the Dane following a pass from Sissoko.
36'
The Spurs fans are urging their team forward, but Tottenham look comfortable retaining possession, passing it forward before turning around and sending it back. A long ball finally comes to Trippier, but the right-back strays offside and the linesman flags immediately.
34'
Vertonghen hits a cannon of a strike towards Dubravka’s goal but the goalkeeper makes a perfect catch at his near post.
32'
Trippier bends a pass into the right side of the penalty area for Kane who gets by his markers, but Lejeune is once again in the perfect spot and he makes the interception.
30'
Another chance for Newcastle as Gayle sends his header over the bar! The ball is swung in for the striker from the right, and its Gayle who rises highest, but his accuracy is lacking and Lloris can breathe a sigh of relief.
28'
Back the other way, Ritchie takes his corner short for Shelvey and it immediately gets sent into the penalty area where Lascelles rises highest to meet it. A diving Lloris palms the effort away and keeps it in play, but the Spurs press forces Newcastle to go all the way back to Dubravka.
26'
WANYAMA SENDS IT OVER! The corner is half-cleared by Lascelles and it falls for Wanyama who blasts his volley well over Dubravka’s goal. The midfielder really should have done better there.
24'
Son wins a throw-in after his cross for Kane is blocked by Ritchie on the left-hand side. Spurs opt to throw it backwards and rebuild from the back before getting it to Eriksen on the other wing who wins a corner-kick.
22'
Vertonghen boots a Newcastle cross out of play for a corner which Shelvey takes to the penalty spot. Sissoko breaks away on a counter-attack before a brilliant slide tackle halts his progress.
19'
Tottenham are maintaining possession in Newcastle’s half, switching play from side-to-side, without much forward movement. The away side are doing very well taking away space and limiting Tottenham’s options on the ball.
14'
OH SO CLOSE! Jonjo Shelvey’s curling effort strikes the outside of the post before going out for a goal-kick. It was almost perfect from Shelvey who is known for his brilliant dead-ball ability.
13'
Newcastle are building pressure, holding possession just outside of the Spurs penalty area. The cross finally comes in for Gayle who gets the ball just outside the penalty area before he’s taken down by Sissoko. Now Newcastle have a set-piece in a dangerous area...
11'
Eriksen’s effort is hit very well but Dubravka stretches out an arm and gets his hand to the powerful strike before it is cleared out of the penalty area by a Newcastle defender.
10'
Victor Wanyama breaks through the Newcastle midfield but Kenedy brings him down before he enters the penalty area. Tottenham have a free-kick in a wonderful position and Eriksen is standing over it.
8'
Good defending by Lejeune who cuts out Dele Alli’s pass into the box for Sissoko at the crucial moment.
6'
CHANCE! Son-Heung Min puts in a cross which is punched away by Dubravka. The ball doesn’t get very far but Eriksen’s volley towards the target is blocked. Spurs retain possession but play is eventually blown dead after a pass to Kane is made with the striker in an offside position.
4'
Harry Kane gets into the box but loses his footing on the edge of the penalty area before he can fashion a strike at goal.
2'
Jonjo Shelvey attempts a through ball into the penalty area searching for Dwight Gayle, but the striker gives up on his run as the pass is hit with too much pace.

Newcastle take the opening kick-off and get the match underway!
Good evening and welcome to our live commentary of the Premier League fixture between Tottenham and Newcastle United from Wembley Stadium in London.
As the season draws to a close, there is still much to fight for in the top flight of English football. With two matches left in the campaign, Spurs have not yet secured a Champions League position for next season. Three defeats in five matches – including last week’s shock defeat to West Bromwich Albion – have left the race for the final spot in Europe’s premier competition wide open.
Two points ahead of Chelsea in fifth place, and only one back of Liverpool who have played a game more, there is a wide range of outcomes for Tottenham – but their fate is in their own hands. A win today, coupled with a Chelsea loss at home to relegation-threatened Huddersfield would secure at least fourth spot ahead of the final match day.
Harry Kane has netted five times in his last 10 matches, and his contributions today will be crucial if Tottenham are to earn all three points. Newcastle have the best defensive record of any team below seventh-place Burnley, as is typical for a side managed by Rafa Benitez.
While their stability at the back is cause for optimism, Newcastle have struggled somewhat in front of goal. Since securing survival with a 2-1 win over Arsenal on April 15th, Benitez’s side have lost three consecutive matches, scoring only once while being kept goalless by Everton and West Brom. Only two sides outside of the bottom four have scored less.
Tottenham substitutes: Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, Erik Lamela, Michel Vorm, Fernando Llorente, Juan Foyth, Lucas Moura.
Tottenham Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Hugo Lloris; Ben Davies, Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, Kieran Trippier; Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko; Son-Heung Min, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen; Harry Kane.
There are 15 minutes to go before kick-off, so let’s take a look at how the two sides will be lining up this evening!
Newcastle substitutes: Jacob Murphy, Isaac Hayden, Javi Manquillo, Joselu, Mikel Merino, Massadio Haidara, Karl Darlow.
Newcastle Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Martin Dubravka; DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Paul Dummett; Mohamed Diame, Jonjo Shelvey; Matt Ritchie, Ayoze Perez, Kenedy; Dwight Gayle.
Tottenham change their shape from the 3-4-2-1 that lost to West Brom on the weekend to a 4-2-3-1, making three changes in the process. Ben Davies returns to the side, replacing Danny Rose while Moussa Sissoko gets a start in midfield, dropping Toby Alderweireld to the bench. The final change is in the attacking third, with Son-Heung Min replacing Erik Lamela.
Rafa Benitez also opts for a 4-2-3-1, making two alterations from the team that lost 2-1 to Watford on May 5th. DeAndre Yedlin replaces Javi Manquillo at right-back, while Matt Ritchie returns to the starting XI – dropping Jacob Murphy to the bench.
Despite a lack of serious investment and ownership questions, Newcastle have done fantastically well in their first season back in the Premier League. Sitting in 10th with two games to play, the Magpies can finish as high as ninth place – currently occupied by Leicester City – or as low as 15th. Either way, their status as one of the 20 elite teams in England is secured for another season.
Both sides have had their fair share of scoring chances. Newcastle came closest with a Shelvey free-kick that just clipped the outside of the post, while Harry Kane’s scuffed volley represents Tottenham’s best chance to break the deadlock.
HALF TIME: Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle.
Despite the goal-mouth action, neither team has looked particularly adventurous, with Tottenham looking happy to just pass it around in the centre of the park for the entirety of the 90 minutes. Their best chances have been the result of set-pieces, with very little coming from the home side through open play.
Newcastle have shown slightly more urgency, with Dwight Gayle doing his best to trouble the defensive line. While Benitez will certainly be happy with a draw, he must go into the interval thinking that his side can take three points at Wembley.
FULL-TIME: Tottenham 1-0 Newcastle.
Tottenham end their campaign on Sunday, welcoming Leicester City to Wembley Stadium while Newcastle head back north to face Chelsea at St. James’ Park on the same day.
Tottenham certainly didn’t look impressive for large spells, but they have managed to come away with all three points. Harry Kane got over his wasted opportunity in the first half well with a fantastic first-time finish from just inside the penalty area. The build-up play looked slow and lethargic at times, but they used their patience to dictate the tempo to their opponents.
Newcastle certainly had their chances, with Jacob Murphy causing chaos on the left from the moment he was introduced. Their midfield was compact and organised, causing Spurs no end of trouble – but they were beaten by a moment of brilliance from one of the Premier League’s most productive strikers. Despite failing to win any points, Benitez should be happy with the effort and discipline his side showed.
That concludes our coverage of the Premier League match between Tottenham and Newcastle! We hope you enjoyed it and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!
