Description
83'
Iborra has scored a goal for Leicester City! Assist by B. Chilwell.
GOAL! A simple delivery and a simple goal. Chilwell is afforded too much time to cross and Vicente Iborra easily escapes his marker to head in at the back post to give Leicester the lead, very much against the run of play.
Ben Chilwell with plenty of time to cross and picks out Iborra at the back post, who heads Leicester into the lead.
79'
G. Bong gets yellow.
D. Gray enters the game and replaces M. Albrighton.
Gaëtan Bong is booked for a foul on Mahrez.
Marc Albrighton is replaced by Demarai Gray.
77'
Penalty saved by K. Schmeichel!
Kasper Schmeichel guesses correctly and parries Murray's penalty away safely.
Glenn Murray curls a tame effort towards the right corner and Schmeichel has it well covered. A good height for the goalkeeper and an easy top in the end.
76'
PENALTY! Izquierdo is brought down inside the box by Maguire and Murray has the chance to put Brighton into the lead.
75'
S. March enters the game and replaces J. Locadia.
Jürgen Locadia is replaced by Solomon March.
71'
Leicester finally offer something in attack and both were through Mahrez. The first time he slots Diabate through down the right of the box but the substitute's return pass is miscued. Then Mahrez chipped the ball towards the back post, which Vardy could only head towards Schmeichel. Better from Leicester though.
68'
H. Maguire gets yellow.
A ponderous Leicester attack comes to a very tame end and Bong is allowed to race down the right wing, with Maguire eventually bringing him down for Leicester's fifth yellow card of the game. That means Leicester's entire back four are now on a booking.
66'
B. Kayal gets yellow.
Beram Kayal is booked for a foul on Diabate.
64'
D. Simpson gets yellow.
Danny Simpson receives a yellow card for a foul on Kayal.
63'
B. Chilwell gets yellow.
Brighton earn a free kick in the defensive half and Ben Chillwell is the latest Leicester player to receive a booking.
59'
Kayal looks through behind the Leicester defence but the linesman flags him for offside. No signs that either side look like scoring so far in these opening 15 minutes or so.
56'
F. Diabaté enters the game and replaces S. Okazaki.
Shinji Okazaki is replaced by Fousseni Diabaté for Leicester's first change of the afternoon.
55'
Kayal with a snap shot on the edge of the Leicester box but it rolls harmlessly wide of the left post. Brighton are doing everything right except for the final product.
52'
Brighton find space on the right wing again but again the delivery is easily dealt with. All Brighton in these opening minutes.
49'
Izquierdo races onto a loose pass on the right wing and works it back out to Propper, but the midfielder's cross into the box is poor. The clearance falls only as far as Bong on the edge of the box, who fires far wide of the right post.
46'
We are back underway!
45'
The fourth official has indicated one minute of additional time.
43'
The game seems to be petering out a little as we approach half time. Leicester have weathered the storm after a good attacking spell from the home side but they are comfortably handling everything the Seagulls throw their way now.
40'
Izquierdo is unable to pick a pass inside a crowded Leicester box, opting to work his way outside instead, evading two challenges before firing an effort into the back of a defender. It looked to be going on target though.
38'
How did he miss!? Murray finds himself through on goal after an excellent through ball by Pascal Gross. The striker is one on one with Schmeichel but he can only rifle his shot wide of the right post with the goal at his mercy. He should have scored.
35'
Murray latches onto a very poor pass by Maguire outside the Leicester box, but can only curl his shot over the bar.
33'
Vardy races onto a through ball by Albrighton but is forced too far wide in the end. He tries to chip it onto the head of the Leicester winger but it is easily cleared by Brighton. A little too casual from the England striker.
30'
Leicester are struggling to get a foothold in this game at the moment. Chris Hughton's men are in total control but have yet to provide the end product to test Kasper Schmeichel.
27'
Good attacking play from Brighton once again as Murray and Jose Izquierdo link up on the edge of the box, with the latter racing onto a through ball which needs a timely intervention by Harry Maguire to clear the danger.
24'
W. Ndidi gets yellow.
Wilfred Ndidi goes into the referee's book for a lunging challenge on Kayal.
21'
Brighton are starting to look confident in possession now. They are moving the ball around at pace and causing Leicester a few problems when they come forward.
18'
Marc Albrighton takes it after a dummy from Mahrez and it is a wonderfully lofted pass towards the back post. Vicente Iborra gets his head to it but his dipping effort is an easy catch in the end for Ryan.
17'
Riyad Mahrez is given the freedom to stroll into the Brighton half before being challenged, winning a free kick as soon as someone does stick a foot in. Looks a little too far out for the shot though.
15'
Close! Lovely one touch stuff from Brighton sees Locadia in acres of space on the right wing. He fires a low cross towards the penalty spot, which Beram Kayal can only come agonisingly close to making contact with. Excellent football.
12'
W. Morgan gets yellow.
Wes Morgan is booked for that foul on Propper.
11'
Brighton come charging forward after a mistake in midfield by Leicester and Wes Morgan reacts quickly, bringing down Davy Propper just beyond the halfway line.
6'
Another hopeful long ball by Lewis Dunk this time finds its way over the Leicester defence. Jurgen Locadia races to meet it but can only spurn his volley high and wide, under pressure from a defender.
4'
Nothing much to split the two sides in these opening exchanges. Both of them are looking to get the ball up to Jamie Vardy and Murray respectively as quickly as they can but with little success so far.
1'
We are underway! Brighton are going left to right playing in blue and white, Leicester in all black.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live coverage of today’s Premier League game between Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City at the Amex Stadium.
The international break could not have come at a better time for Brighton & Hove Albion, as their form was starting to become a cause for concern. The Seagulls were completely torn apart by Everton before they were knocked out of the FA Cup in a tame defeat to Manchester United. The week off will have left them ready and refreshed for the final stretch to Premier League safety.
Chris Hughton’s side will be without winger Anthony Knockaert through suspension, while forward Leonardo Ulloa is ineligible to feature against his parent club. Midfielder Dale Stephens missed training during the week and could miss out again this afternoon, while defender Gaetan Bong is available again after recovering from a thigh injury.
Leicester City have propelled themselves away from any threat of relegation this season and are now battling Burnley and Everton for seventh place, and a spot in Europe should Southampton not win the FA Cup. The foxes’ 4-1 hammering of West Brom ended a run of five away games without a win and they will be in good stead to continue that run, especially with Jamie Vardy in fine form.
Claude Puel’s side will be without midfielder Matty James due to an Achilles injury but Harry Maguire is fit again. Forward Kelechi Iheanacho broke his hand during international duty with Nigeria but could still feature today.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Leicester City XI (4-4-1-1): Schmeichel; Simpson, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell; Mahrez, Iborra, Ndidi, Albrighton; Okazaki; Vardy.
Leicester City substitutes: Gray, Iheanacho, Silva, Dragovic, Jakupovic, Fuchs, Diabate.
Brighton make three changes to the side that were beaten 2-0 in the FA Cup by Manchester United before the international break. Tim Krul is replaced in goal by Mat Ryan, while Gaetan Bong recovers from a thigh injury to start ahead of Markus Suttner. Leonardo Ulloa is replaced by Glenn Murray up front.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
Leicester make only one change to the side that were beaten 2-1 in extra time by Chelsea in the FA Cup, with Kelechi Iheanacho dropping to the bench in favour of Shinji Okazaki.
Goalless at the break and Brighton could be left to rue missed chances by the time this game ends. A good spell of attacking play saw Kayal come inches away from poking Brighton into the lead after excellent one touch football, before Gross put Murray through one on one with the goalkeeper, only for the striker to fire the ball wide. Leicester have created little themselves in attack though and Chris Hughton will be happy with his sides display so far.
The two sides are making their way back out onto the pitch, ahead of the start of the second half.
Jamie Vardy scores in his fifth of Leicester's last six away league games to help secure a victory against the balance of play. Brighton were in charge for most of the game but could not find the goal to make it count, with Glenn Murray missing a one on one with Schmeichel and then having a tame penalty stopped by the Leicester keeper. Brighton offered very little in attack after that as they began to tire and Ben Chilwell was allowed to pick out Vicente Iborra, who stepped easily away from his marker to head Leicester into the lead. Wilfred Ndidi was sent off for a second yellow card on the 87th minute but Brighton could not find the equaliser, with Vardy taking full advantage of a late Leicester counter attack to seal the three points.
