Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Europa League final between Marseille and Atletico Madrid at the Groupama Stadium.
Atletico put forward two stoic performances against Arsenal to advance. The odds were stacked against Diego Simeone's men after Sime Vrsaljko was sent off at the Emirates Stadium. However, they were able to earn a 1-1 draw on the night as Antoine Griezmann scored a vital away goal. Diego Costa scored the only goal of the game in the second leg as the Gunners ran into a brick wall in the Atletico defence. That will be the foundation of their attempts to win the crown this evening.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the French side.
MARSEILLE (4-2-3-1): Steve Mandanda; Bouna Sarr, Adil Rami, Luiz Gustavo, Jordan Amavi; Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Morgan Sansone; Florian Thauvin, Dimitri Payet, Lucas Ocampos; Valere Germain.
Marseille subs: Hiroki Sakai, Boubacar Kamara, Rolando, Kostas Mitroglou, Clinton N'Jie, Yohann Pele, Maxime Lopez.
ATLETICO (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Sime Vrsaljko, Jose Gimenez, Diego Godin, Lucas Hernandez; Angel Correa, Saul Niguez, Gabi, Koke; Diego Costa, Antoine Griezmann.
Atletico subs: Filipe Luis, Thomas Partey, Fernando Torres, Stefan Savic, Juanfran, Kevin Gameiro, Axel Werner.
Mandanda missed the two legs of the semi-final against Salzburg, but has regained his place in the side in Ligue 1 ahead of Pele. Rudi Garcia puts faith in the keeper, despite his dismissal last time out against Guingamp in Marseille's 3-3 draw.
Marseille have made four changes from their draw against Guingamp at the weekend. Payet, Rami, Guztavo and Sarr come into the side, with Sakai, Kamara and Lopez dropping to the bench.
Simeone has made three changes to his side from their last outing against Getafe in LaLiga at the weekend. Vrsaljko is preferred to Juanfran after returning from suspension, while Gimenez and Correa get the nod ahead of Partey and Savic.
Both sides still have plenty to play for in their domestic leagues as well as the final this evening. Marseille are in greater need of the automatic Champions League place, but Atletico will be keen to enjoy success on the continent after missing out on the LaLiga crown.
Garcia's men are currently third in Ligue 1 after their 3-3 draw against Guingamp, one point off the pace of Lyon in the final Champions League spot. Marseille have one match remaining in their league season against Amiens on the final day and still could finish in the top three, securing a place in Europe's elite competition even without winning the trophy this evening.
Atletico are sitting second in LaLiga, three points clear of Real Madrid in third. Simeone's men still need a point against Eibar to secure second spot behind Barcelona, which will be important for the club to finish above their rivals.
The French side have not won the Europa League, but do have a Champions League title to their name in the 1992/93 season when they defeated AC Milan. Marseille have twice reached the final of the competition when it was known as the UEFA Cup, but were beaten by Parma in 1999 and Valencia in 2004.
Tonight is Torres' final match for Atletico. The 34-year-old starts from the bench. It would be poignant for him to make an impact as a substitute for his boyhood club.
The players are out on the pitch, so the Europa League final should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: MARSEILLE 0-1 ATLETICO MADRID
Atletico Madrid lead 1-0 at the break in the Europa League final against Marseille. Antoine Griezmann's strike separates the two sides as Andre-Frank Zambo-Aguissa's mistake allowed Gabi to release the Frenchman, who slotted his effort into the bottom corner. The French outfit should have been ahead in the early stages when Dimitri Payet played in Valere Germain, only for the striker to place his shot over the bar. Those have been the two defining moments of the first half, although Rudi Garcia's men were also dealt a massive blow when Payet was forced off with an injury. The French outfit need a response in the second period.
ATLETICO MADRID WIN THE EUROPA LEAGUE!
FULL-TIME: MARSEILLE 0-3 ATLETICO MADRID
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Atletico Madrid win the Europa League for the third time in the history of the competition. It's their second Europa League crown under the management of Diego Simeone. Antoine Griezmann put on a show this evening to deliver the victory, scoring twice to dispatch Marseille. Gabi got the other to secure the victory as the Spanish side were more clinical than their French counterparts. It could have been a different story had Valere Germain found the net in the early stages. However, once Griezmann put Atletico in front, the game was in their control and they were able to triumph with relative ease.
Atletico are looking to win the competition for a third time. They have won the tournament twice since it was reformed into the Europa League. Los Rojiblancos defeated Fulham in the final in the 2009/10 season, while they defeated Athletic Bilbao in the 2011/12 campaign - with Simeone in charge.
