For the second time in as many weeks, Etheridge has managed to save from the spot. It was an easy one thanks to Kenedy's woeful strike, but the goalkeeper was still able to save his side right at the death.
SAVE! A torrid day for Kenedy comes to an awful end, as his poor strike from the penalty spot is easily saved by Etheridge. What a miss!

90' +2
Newcastle are enjoying a decent spell of possession late on, but they're running out of time to make it count. It looks as if they've managed to get themselves into a good position out wide but Muto ends up fouling Bennett before he can spin and cross.
90'
The fourth official has indicated that there will be six minutes of added time. Can either side find a late winner?
89'
Diame muscles his way towards the edge of the box and is brought down just a few yards outside, resulting in a free-kick for Newcastle in a brilliant position. It's Kenedy who steps up and shoots, but the Brazilian's effort is woeful and fails to beat the wall.
88'
Another chance for Zohore! The striker has been presented with a few good opportunities today but he hasn't been able to make any of them count. Once again he receives the ball in a great position in front of goal, but he gets his attempted header all wrong and sends it well wide.
87'
Zohore goes close! Cardiff quickly push forward on an attack of their own and win a corner over on the left. Ralls' cross is a good one and picks out Arter, who nods the ball down to Zohore. The Dane then tries to convert from close range but can't guide his effort past Murphy at the near post.
86'
Kenedy is brought down on the halfway line, resulting in a free-kick for Newcastle. Shelvey blasts the ball up towards the Cardiff penalty area and straight to Joselu, who tries to chip a shot over Etheridge but can't beat the goalkeeper.
85'
Shelvey's second corner is a much better one, but Bamba is there to head the ball away from danger and out for a throw-in deep down the right wing. Murphy launches the ball back into the box and finds Kenedy, but the Brazilian's first touch is poor and denies him the opportunity to shoot.

Description
84'
The corner is finally taken and whipped into the penalty area, where it's cleared back to Shelvey by Zohore. The midfielder then cuts inside and shoots, but Zohore is there to deflect the ball behind for another corner.

C. Paterson enters the game and replaces J. Hoilett.
Hoilett gingerly makes his way off the pitch to be replaced by Paterson.

Newcastle win themselves a corner after a looping cross is headed behind for a corner, but there's a break in play before it's taken due to an injury picked up by Hoilett. The Canadian is down on the ground and looks as if he'll have to be replaced.
81'
Chance for Diame! Newcastle have barely penetrated the Cardiff box today but Diame is able to test Etheridge after latching onto a loose ball. He can't make the goalkeeper work much, though, as his low strike is underhit.
80'
H. Arter gets yellow.
Arter loses possession and then cynically trips Joselu to the ground, leaving the referee with no choice but to show him a yellow card.

N. Mendez-Laing enters the game and replaces J. Murphy.
Cardiff have made another switch, with Mendez-Laing coming on to take the place of Josh Murphy.
76'
B. De Cordova-Reid enters the game and replaces Camarasa.
Camarasa receives a rousing round of applause from the home fans as he's replaced by Reid, who comes on to make his home debut.
75'
Decent strike by Arter! The midfielder, who has performed well during his first appearance for Cardiff, unleashes a thumping shot from 25 yards out, but there's slightly too much swerve behind the effort and it sails wide of the near post.
74'
Diame loses out to Ralls and allows Cardiff to quickly counter-attack. The ball is immediately worked to Hoilett on the right flank, but his cross is poorly executed and sails over to the opposite wing.
72'
Newcastle win themselves a free-kick over on the left wing as they try to carve out a rare chance on goal. It's Shelvey who launches it into the penalty area, but it's overhit and fails to find the head of Joselu.
70'
J. Murphy enters the game and replaces M. Ritchie.
Newcastle have made their third and final alteration, with Jacob Murphy coming on to replace Ritchie and join his twin brother on the pitch.
68'
Cardiff have been on the front foot since the early stages and have now been presented with an excellent opportunity to go on and win this game. Newcastle have created little inside the final third of the pitch, and that looks as if it's going to continue to be the case with them down to 10 men.
66'
I. Hayden goes off after a red card!
RED CARD! Huge decision by the referee! Hayden has really struggled since coming on, and he's been given his marching orders after just 20 minutes. He flies into Murphy and takes the winger down from behind, leaving the referee with no choice but to send him off.
65'
Y. Muto enters the game and replaces Ayoze Pérez.
Newcastle have looked poor going forward, and Benitez has understandably decided to make a change, with new signing Muto coming on to replace Perez.
64'
Vital block by Shelvey! Zohore is left alone on the right-hand side of the Newcastle penalty area and is able to fire a pass across the face of goal. It almost picks out Camarasa, but Shelvey is there to make sure the Spaniard can't reach it.
62'
Camarasa gets yellow.
Perez picks up the ball on the halfway line and immediately breaks away on a quick counter-attack, but Camarasa is there to cynically pull back the forward and earn himself a yellow card.
61'
Hoilett cuts inside from out wide and takes on Hayden, who sticks out a foot and sends the Canadian crashing to the ground with a poorly timed challenge. It's Hoilett who sends a cross into the penalty area, but it's overhit and can only find the hands of Dubravka.
59'
Bennett and Murphy link up well over on the left wing, setting up the latter to burst forward. He sprints past Hayden and heads towards the edge of the box, but the Newcastle substitute does well to get back and regain possession.
57'
Zohore receives the ball once again, this time on the edge of the visitors' penalty area. He spins and tees up Ralls to shoot, but the midfielder is quickly closed down as soon as he pulls the trigger.
55'
What a chance for Zohore! A wonderful cross from Ralls sails into the heart of the Newcastle box and perfectly picks out Zohore. The striker can't adjust his feet quickly enough, though, and his mistimed effort flies well wide of the goal.
53'
Newcastle enjoy a decent spell of possession as they try to carve out a rare chance on goal. They're unable to do much with the ball, though, and Camarasa eventually wins it back for Cardiff in the middle of the pitch.
51'
Another chance for Hoilett! Murphy twists and turns over on the left flank before sending a great cross into the box. It just misses Bamba but finds Hoilett, who can't make decent contact and sends a half-hearted effort over the crossbar.
50'
The game gets underway once again and sloppy play from Newcastle results in a chance for the home side. Hoilett dances towards the edge of the box before toe-poking a low shot, but it's underhit and fails to trouble Dubravka.
48'
The first half ended with an injury to Manquillo and the second has started with Arter receiving a knock to the head. The midfielder clashed with Ritchie as they battled for the ball, but it looks as if he'll be able to continue.
46'
I. Hayden enters the game and replaces Javier Manquillo.
Manquillo has had to make way due to the knock he received just before half-time, and Hayden has come on to replace him.
We're underway once again!
45' +5
HALF-TIME: CARDIFF CITY 0-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED
45' +4
Newcastle are able to deal with another decent set-piece, but they aren't able to launch a counter-attack and the referee's whistle is blown just as Kenedy starts sprinting away.
45' +3
Manquillo hobbles off the pitch to receive further treatment and the game gets underway once again. Ralls' cross is a great one, and Bamba's close-range header is deflected behind for another corner.
45' +1
Hoilett twists and turns deep down the right flank but can't find a way past Dummett and has to settle for a corner. Cardiff are going to have to wait to take it, though, as Manquillo has gone down after tangling with Murphy and looks to be in a lot of discomfort.
45'
The fourth official has indicated that there will be just one minute of added time.
44'
Kenedy is finally able to get involved in a decent position just outside the Cardiff penalty area, and he wins his side a free-kick after being clumsily fouled. Shelvey steps up and shoots, but his curling strike is underhit and easily saved by Etheridge.
40'
Perez goes close! A wonderful lofted pass from Shelvey sails over to the far post and perfectly picks out Perez, who quickly unleashes a close-range volley but has his strike saved by Etheridge.
39'
Murphy is constantly causing problems over on the left wing, where he's always getting the better of Manquillo. He flicks a cross into the heart of the penalty area and straight to Zohore, who tries to beat Dubravka with a towering header but sends it a few yards wide of the far post.
37'
A clumsy challenge from Diame results in a free-kick for Cardiff midway inside the Newcastle half of the pitch. It's launched into the box and finds Morrison, who gets his head on the ball but can't hit the target with a downward effort.
35'
Cardiff go long once again and manage to pick out Murphy out wide. The winger quickly whips a curling cross into the middle of the box but can only find the hands of Dubravka, who does well to rush out and collect the ball.
33'
Kenedy seems to be very lucky indeed, as he just kicked out at Camarasa but somehow avoided receiving a card. The referee was in a good position but, luckily for the Brazilian, had his eyes on the ball. We may hear more about that come the end of the game...
32'
The second corner fails to find a black and white shirt inside the penalty area, but Newcastle manage to keep the attacking move alive. Shelvey tries to send a cross back into the box but it's a poor one that's easily cut out.
31'
Kenedy battles his way down the right flank and into the box, where he wins a corner off Arter. Shelvey's cross is a low one again, but this time it results in another corner after being deflected behind.
30'
Javier Manquillo gets yellow.
Murphy and Manquillo come together again, and this time the Spaniard receives a booking for a pull on the winger. Cardiff can't take advantage of the resulting free-kick, though, as Murphy's cross-cum-shot is overhit and sails behind.
29'
Murphy gets the better of Manquillo out wide as he flies down the left wing and towards the penalty area. He's held up on the edge and has to retreat towards the halfway line, though, as Newcastle do well to quickly get plenty of bodies back.
27'
It hasn't been the best of starts for Newcastle, who enjoyed a couple of decent spells in possession early on but have failed to crack on since then. It's Cardiff who are on the front foot at the moment, although neither side look likely to score any time soon.
25'
Cardiff are clearly keen to pick out Zohore as quickly as possible whenever they're in possession, and it's an approach that's working relatively well so far. Once again a long ball finds the striker, who knocks it down to Camarasa to shoot, but the referee penalises the Dane for a foul on Lascelles just as the strike fizzes past the near post.
23'
Ritchie makes good progress down the right flank but can't get the better of Bennett, who pokes the ball out for a corner. Shelvey steps up and swings a cross towards the near post, but it's underhit and easily cleared.
21'
Zohore gets himself into a good position once again after the ball breaks to him on the edge of the Newcastle box, but he can't quite react quickly enough and the visitors clear the danger before the striker can shoot.
19'
A good move from the hosts results in Zohore breaking into the left-hand side of the penalty area before trying to tee up Hoilett in front of goal, but he's closed down at the vital moment and the ball can only find Dubravka.
17'
Another attempted Cardiff attacking move breaks down and Newcastle quickly push forward on an attack of their own, but a pass from Diame down the right wing fails to pick out Ritchie and is well stopped by Murphy.
15'
Cardiff patiently pass the ball around as they try to find a way through the Newcastle back line. They eventually go long to Zohore after retreating to the halfway line, but the striker can't pick out a team-mate with his glancing header and possession returns to the visitors.
13'
Arter does well to win back possession before once again finding Zohore, who is pushed to the ground by Lascelles and wins Cardiff a free-kick in a decent position. This time it's Murphy who sends a cross into the box, where Diame gets his head to the ball first.
11'
Chance for Perez! Bennett is the latest player to lose his footing, and it allows Perez to break into the penalty area. The Spaniard shrugs off two defenders and shoots, but Etheridge is there to save the effort at the near post.
10'
Huge block! Diame gets himself in a bit of a twist and accidentally knocks the ball behind for a corner. It's whipped in well by Ralls and finds Bamba, whose downward header looks set to find the back of the net but is blocked by the knee of Perez.
8'
Kenedy is able to dart deep into the Cardiff half of the pitch for the first time today, and it results in the Brazilian having a go on goal. His low strike lacks the power needed to beat Etheridge, though, and it's easily collected by the goalkeeper.
7'
Diame loses out to Arter, who quickly sends a pass into the path of Zohore. The striker can't quite reach the ball inside the box but immediately closes down Dubravka, whose attempted clearance deflects off the Dane and over to the right wing.
5'
Hoilett is finally able to get back to his feet, but he isn't moving very well and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to continue. Play gets underway once again with a Cardiff free-kick, but once again it's defended well by the visitors.
4'
Well, that didn't take long! The referee has already reached for his yellow card, and it's Ritchie who is on the receiving end after clattering into Hoilett with a late sliding challenge.
3'
M. Ritchie gets yellow.
Cardiff push forward on the first attacking move of the game through Zohore, who is clumsily fouled by Lascelles and wins his side a free-kick out wide. It's whipped in by Bennett but can only find Diame, who does well to clear the danger.
1'
We're off! It's Newcastle who get us underway.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of today’s Premier League game between Cardiff City and Newcastle United at the Cardiff City Stadium.
This afternoon’s clash not only brings together two old managerial foes but also sees two potential candidates for relegation go head-to-head. While Newcastle, despite another underwhelming transfer window, most likely have enough firepower in their ranks to achieve safety, it could prove to be a long season for Cardiff, who are back in the top tier for the first time in five years.
The Bluebirds were excellent last season on their way to a second-place finish, but they’ve started this campaign with one of the weaker squads in the division and could struggle as a result. Their first game back ended in a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Bournemouth, but today’s home clash presents them with a decent opportunity to get some points on the board.
Newcastle also suffered defeat in their opening fixture, although they faced a tough clash against top four-chasing Tottenham. Joselu, who largely struggled last season, found the back of the net at St James' Park and has retained his place in the starting line-up as a result, with new loan signing Salomon Rondon once again being named on the bench.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Cardiff City XI (4-3-3): Neil Etheridge; Bruno Ecuele Manga, Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba, Joe Bennett; Joe Ralls, Victor Camarasa, Harry Arter; Josh Murphy, Kenneth Zohore, Junior Hoilett.
Warnock and Benitez have a rivalry that goes back to 2007, and it’s the latter who has tended to come out on top since then. He has never lost against his opposite number in five previous meetings, winning each of the last four since a 1-1 draw between Sheffield United and Liverpool 12 years ago.
Newcastle United substitutes: Ki Sung-yeung, Jacob Murphy, Salomon Rondon, Yoshinori Muto, Isaac Hayden, Federico Fernandez, Karl Darlow.
Newcastle United XI (4-4-1-1): Martin Dubravka; Javi Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett; Matt Ritchie, Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame, Kenedy; Ayoze Perez; Joselu.
Neil Warnock has decided to make four changes to the Cardiff side that started the defeat against Bournemouth, with Murphy, Zohore, Camarasa and Arter all coming into the starting 11.
Meanwhile, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has made just one alteration to the team that featured on the opening weekend, with Manquillo replacing the injured Yedlin at right-back.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
Cardiff City substitutes: Jazz Richards, Alex Smithies, Callum Paterson, Bobby Reid, Greg Cunningham, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Gary Madine.
Cardiff City XI (4-3-3): Neil Etheridge; Bruno Ecuele Manga, Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba, Joe Bennett; Joe Ralls, Victor Camarasa, Harry Arter; Josh Murphy, Kenneth Zohore, Junior Hoilett.
It hasn't been the most exciting of games so far but Warnock will no doubt be pleased with how his side have performed. Cardiff have been on the front foot throughout, and while they've struggled to carve out chances on goal, it's they who have gone closest to opening the scoring with a couple of decent efforts.
Newcastle may not have been at their best so far but they're certainly still in this. Their wide men have struggled to get into the game but Shelvey has managed to carve open the Cardiff defence on a few occasions, highlighting just how much of a threat he can be when he's given time to shine.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half.
Under the circumstances, Cardiff won't be too unhappy with the point, although they had several chances to go on and win the game. Hayden's red card presented them with a great opportunity, but they failed to kick on and were made to pay for some sloppiness in front of goal.
Despite being second best throughout, Newcastle were presented with a brilliant opportunity to take all three points with the final kick of the game, but Kenedy fluffed his lines and denied his side their first win of the season. It rather summed up the Magpies' afternoon, as they really struggled to get going and lacked any sort of belief inside the final third of the pitch.
