Camavinga gets ahead of Brown to clear the deep corner. We're past the five minutes of time added on.
90' +5
Bourigeaud launches a ball forward as Rennes go for the win, but the Celtic defence holds firm and Hayes leads a counter down the left. It comes to Christie, who attempts an effort with the outside of his left foot, but it deflects behind for a last-minute Celtic corner.
90' +3
R. Christie gets yellow.
Now Christie is booked for a foul. It's all kicking off here!
90' +2
V. Bayo gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
A second yellow in two minutes for Bayo! Moments after elbowing Da Silva, he is late in a challenge on goalkeeper Mendy after he spilled an Ntcham shot from range. It looks slightly harsh - the ball was there to be won - but after checking on the writhing keeper, the referee makes up his mind and sends Issouf Bayo off.
90' +1
Da Silva is off and there are five minutes of added time for his side to now see out, down to ten men.
89'
V. Bayo gets yellow.
Substitute Bayo is booked for a foul on Da Silva, using his elbow as the pair went up for a header.
88'
J. Siebatcheu enters the game and replaces C. Grenier.
Rennes make their final change as Siebatcheu comes on in place of Grenier. His free kick was as close as either side have come to a winner.
Del Castillo looks to put some pressure on Jullien as he watches a ball out behind for a goal kick, but the lanky Frenchman does well to hold him off.
86'
Rennes are playing the ball around the Celtic penalty area looking for a way through, but the away defence look to be holding together for the time being. Grenier attempts an ambitious pass in behind but it's overhit, out for a goal kick and Celtic have a breather.
84'
V. Bayo enters the game and replaces O. Édouard.
Hayes fouls Traore in the Rennes right-back area. It's an innocuous one but he's being targeted by the home fans now.
Edouard's frustrating night is over, as Bayo comes on.
Minute
Description
82'
Rennes look to press the ball as play gets back underway, Hayes' attempted long ball charged down by Raphinha for a goal kick. There's a bit of needle in this game now.
80'
Traore is still down receiving treatment, but after a replay that still looks like a good tackle. Hayes gets there first and clears the danger away. The home fans aren't happy about it, though.
79'
Bourigeaud plays a beautiful cross-field pass from left to Traore on the right. Hayes puts in a good tackle but both players were going at full throttle and the Rennes man is down in pain at the edge of the area.
78'
Grenier's low corner goes through everybody in the penalty area, with Niang closest to a telling touch at the near post.
77'
The corner is cleared away. Rennes get the ball back and find Bourigeaud on the right, but he eventually puts the ball behind for a goal kick.
Hayes is on hand again, this time beating Del Castillo to Raphinha's attempted through ball down the right. He has to put it behind for another corner. Can Celtic withstand this pressure?
76'
Niang shows some neat footwork to earn himself a yard of space to the left of the penalty area, and Hayes has to be alert to clear his low cross away from the face of goal. Rennes get a corner over on the left.
75'
Hayes is back up, and Rennes give Celtic the ball back. 15 minutes to play.
74'
Ntcham again holds the ball up well, but he runs out of options and space, eventually putting the ball out with Hayes down in some discomfort.
72'
E. Camavinga enters the game and replaces J. Martin.
R. Del Castillo enters the game and replaces F. Tait.
Wonderkid Camavinga comes on for his European debut, as he replaces Martin.
Tait goes off for Del Castillo as the first change of a Rennes double swap.
71'
Ntcham shows some good hold-up play as a Celtic attack waits for reinforcements, but it breaks down as Brown gives possession away with a poor pass.
70'
Raphinha looks to play a reverse pass in behind for Niang to chase. It's a good idea but the execution is a little awry and it runs behind for a goal kick.
69'
J. Hayes enters the game and replaces B. Bolingoli.
We're back to 11 v 11 as Hayes comes on to replace the injured Bolingoli.
68'
Rennes look to piece an attack together down the left with Celtic down to ten men, as Hayes waits to come on. Brown takes responsibility and bustles Grenier off the ball by the corner flag.
67'
Forrest pops up on the left, jinking infield and firing towards the far top corner. He catches it well, but it goes well over the bar.
66'
Grenier plays an excellent long pass out for Morel to chase down the left wing. He just about keeps it in play but can't quite keep himself under control, and Jullien sweeps up.
63'
Rennes win a free kick in a great position, just by the left corner of the penalty area after Jullien comes in late on Grenier. Grenier will fancy taking it, but Raphinha is standing over it as well.
62'
Ntcham fouls Martin, with Rennes looking to get a foot on the ball and take control of the game. The home fans behind Mendy's goal have got a front-facing Poznan on the go, if there's a name for that.
60'
Raphinha gets yellow.
Raphinha goes into the book for a challenge on Ajer, who looks to be in some pain. The winger is furious and you can see why - it's a 50/50 ball over the top, and he just lost out in the race.
59'
Penalty goal scored by R. Christie for Celtic!
GOAL! 1-1, Christie scores! Mendy goes the right way but it's a well-taken spot kick, left-footed and hard to the keeper's left.
57'
O. Ntcham enters the game and replaces M. Elyounoussi.
A first roll of the dice from Lennon, with Ntcham coming on in place of Elyounoussi.
56'
But there's a reminder of Rennes' threat. This time they beat the press, Morel and Tait combining down the left with the latter almost managing to squeeze his way in behind.
55'
As with the opening period in the first half, Rennes are struggling to work the ball out of their own half. They have been trying to pass their way out, but Celtic are pressing well.
54'
Celtic look full of energy in this second half so far. If they can keep it up for the next 40 minutes or so, you'd have to think they'll have a chance to level this up.
52'
Christie goes down under Gnagnon's challenge inside the area. Da Silva had headed a long ball forward away but his defensive partner reacted slowly to the second ball and he does look to have tripped the attacker in his attempt to win it. Celtic will feel hard done by there.
51'
Morel makes a good run forward down the left, drifting infield before threading the ball to Tait on the overlap. The winger's cross is a weak one, easily cleared away from the edge of the area.
50'
It's a nicely shaped delivery towards the line of the six-yard box. Brown gets his head to it but he times his jump too early, and it skims the top of his scalp before spinning behind.
49'
Celtic win a free kick over by the right corner flag, as Morel and Gnagnon combine to bring Elhamed down. Christie will take it.
48'
Forrest produces a lovely flick to find Elhamed on the right, and Celtic eventually work it infield to Christie. He attempts to break through a crowded penalty area and initially does well before going down in a similar position to where Niang won the penalty. Nothing doing this time.
45' +2
HALF-TIME: RENNES 1-0 CELTIC
45' +1
Edouard holds onto possession well inside the area and looks to turn Gnagnon, but again the defender comes out on top. He's won the first-half battle against his opponent, no questions asked.
45'
Morel wins himself a moment of time with a crowd-pleasing turn away from Forrest, before Rennes build an attack. They move the ball from left to right, Raphinha streaming forward before the ball eventually comes to Bourigeaud, but his shot from the edge of the area is immediately blocked.
Celtic get us back underway, needing a goal and probably a bit more cutting edge if they're to salvage a point or more from this one. Have they got it in them, or will Rennes hold it together?
43'
Forster dawdles on the ball for a moment and is pressed well by Tait, but he just about manages to hook the ball away in time. It goes further up than away, but Celtic collect themselves and work it clear.
42'
The atmosphere here is quite something now. Periods of eerie silence broken by what sounds like every home fan in the stadium chanting in unison. Celtic are no strangers to the odd hostile reception, but this is quite impressive.
41'
Forrest gets a crossing opportunity on the right, but this time he overhits it. Mendy thinks about trying to claim it but opts to allow it to run away for a throw-in on the opposite side.
40'
Niang gets up to head the corner to the edge of the penalty area, where Raphinha completes the clearance. Rennes look to force a counter but a loose pass eventually sees the ball safely back to Forster.
39'
Elyounoussi does well to pressure Traore in the Rennes right-back position, robbing him of the ball and winning a corner as he looked to burst infield.
37'
Penalty goal scored by M. Niang for Rennes!
GOAL! 1-0 RENNES! Niang won the penalty, he steps up to take it and he slots it home. It's a slow, languid run-up before he sidefoots it hard to the left, Forster going the other way.
36'
Edouard and Da Silva clash and a slightly harsh foul is given against the forward for backing into his opponent. He hasn't had too much joy out of the defence in this game so far, but he isn't shying away from the challenge.
35'
H. Traoré gets yellow.
Traore gets a yellow card for a late challenge on Elyounoussi. He isn't happy about it as it was his first foul of the evening, but he was a long way off reaching the ball.
34'
It's not a bad delivery at all, but Mendy comes charging out and makes a brilliant two-handed catch. That's the definition of 'commanding your penalty area'.
33'
Bourigeaud looks to feed Grenier in a central attacking position, but Brown is alert to the danger and clears it away.
The game's opening up now. Celtic's attacking trio of Forrest, Christie and Edouard combine well and initially look to have picked their way around the Rennes defence, but they get a boot in and Celtic have a corner on the right.
32'
Edouard and Elyounoussi combine well for a moment down the left, but the move fizzles out. Niang goes down again and initially looks to be in some pain, but he gets up almost immediately.
31'
Grenier gets a bit of space over on the left but goes down under the challenge of Jullien. There's no foul given from the referee and Grenier is furious, though there wasn't a lot in it. Seconds later, Raphinha cuts in from the right and fires a powerful left-footed shot towards the far post, but it's close enough to Forster that he can parry it well clear.
30'
Edouard and Gnagnon have had a fairly one-sided battle so far. Again the defender comes out on top, outmuscling the forward and marshalling a ball out of play for another goal-kick.
28'
It's a game which has been played predominantly in midfield so far, but it's the away side who have looked most likely to put a move together. Rennes' threat on the break is obvious but it's a threat which Celtic have mitigated against fairly well so far.
27'
Jullien releases Forrest into an acre of space down the right. He directs a low ball towards Edouard at the back post, but there isn't enough pace on it and despite a slight miscommunication between defender and goalkeeper, Da Silva hacks it clear under little pressure.
25'
Rennes counter and Tait looks to jink between a couple of defenders at the edge of the area. He goes down under minimal pressure from Forrest and remains down in a heap. No free kick.
24'
The opposing centre-backs exchange a couple of long passes, before Celtic decide to keep the ball to themselves for a moment. Elhamed and Forrest combine down the right but the latter's low ball to Edouard is cleared away.
22'
S. Brown gets yellow.
The customary Brown yellow card comes after a foul on Grenier, scissoring his legs around the midfielder in his follow-through.
21'
O. Édouard gets yellow.
Some brilliance from Edouard, followed by some stupidity. He beats two men at the edge of the area with some brilliant footwork, but throws himself to the ground after a non-tackle from Gnagnon and deservedly gets booked.
17'
Christie's low delivery is flicked on by Brown, but it bounces harmlessly wide to the left of goal. That has to go down as a missed opportunity from a promising position.
16'
Celtic get another free kick over on the right, further upfield this time. Christie is fouled by Da Silva, and he'll take the kick in a really inviting position for him to deliver left-footed.
13'
That Forrest cross to Edouard may have been the first time Celtic have really threatened tonight, but Rennes have been playing very deep so far. They're struggling to get out of their own half with Celtic pressing pretty well.
11'
Some neat footwork at the edge of the area from Forrest sees him get a yard on Morel down the right. He cuts inside and delivers a left-footed cross to the back post where Edouard attempts an acrobatic volley, but he can't get a clean connection and it spins over the bar.
10'
Elhamed makes a good run infield from the right before finding Christie, who continues the charge through the centre. A Rennes defender gets a foot in and it's hoiked out of play for a throw-in.
9'
Celtic win a free-kick to the right of midfield in their attacking half, after Martin is late in a challenge on McGregor.
Christie floats the free-kick towards Elhamed at the back post, but there's a foul and the attack breaks down. The two sides are still feeling each other out here.
7'
A slight moment of concern for Rennes there as Niang went down after a fair challenge from Jullien. He had been a slight doubt for this game with a knee injury, but for now he seems to be up and running again.
6'
Eduoard and Gnagnon do battle again, this time by the right byline. The forward can't get around his opponent this time, with Gnagnon holding off his challenge as the ball trickles behind for a goal kick.
5'
Morel and Grenier initially combine beautifully down the left, but the final pass from Morel is slightly behind the roaming midfielder and he can't control it. Grenier, as expected, is pulling the strings already.
4'
Edouard wants a free kick after tussling with Gnagnon at the edge of the Rennes penalty area, but the call goes the other way with the Celtic forward adjudged to have backed into the defender before hitting the deck.
3'
Grenier gets the ball in midfield and looks to thread a ball in behind, with Niang again the target. Celtic are sitting deep enough to shepherd it back to Forster again.
2'
There's an early show of intent from Rennes, with Morel giving Niang a ball to chase over the top. It's well overhit, though, and the forward watches it bounce harmlessly into the patient arms of Forster.
1'
And we're off! Niang gets the ball rolling, and Celtic win possession with a throw-in on their left-hand side.
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the opening night of this year’s Europa League group stage, with Rennes hosting Celtic at Roazhon Park in Group E.
RENNES (4-4-2): Edouard Mendy; Jeremy Morel, Joris Gnagnon, Damien Da Silva, Hamari Traore; Flavien Tait, Clement Grenier, Benjamin Bourigeaud, Jonas Martin; Raphinha, M’Baye Niang.
SUBS: Romain Salin, Jeremy Gelin, James Lea Siliki, Eduardo Camavinga, Theoson Siebatcheu, Romain Del Castillo, Adrien Hunou.
CELTIC (4-2-3-1): Fraser Forster; Boli Bolingoli, Christopher Jullien, Kristoffer Ajer, Hatem Abd Elhamed; Callum McGregor, Scott Brown; Mohamed Elyounoussi, Ryan Christie, James Forrest; Odsonne Edouard.
SUBS: Craig Gordon, Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Moritz Bauer, Jonny Hayes, Lewis Morgan, Tom Rogic, Olivier Ntcham.
The players are on their way out and we’re almost ready for kick-off. The Europa League tends to promise entertainment, so what’s it got for us tonight?
Julien Stephan’s Rennes earned their spot in the group stage by beating Paris Saint-Germain in last year’s Coupe de France final, while Celtic had to come through a qualification tie with Swedish side AIK after being knocked out of Champions League qualifying by CFR Cluj.
Neil Lennon might be left with a slightly tricky half-time team talk, as there haven't been too many obvious deficiencies in his side's performance so far. But, with Celtic presumably pressing forward for an equaliser in the second half, Rennes look perfectly capable of punishing any lapses with Raphinha and Niang looking electric in behind.
Plenty of huffing and puffing in that game, but not a huge number of clear chances. The two sides looked evenly matched with Rennes threatening on the counter and Celtic looking to build their attacks more steadily. An encouraging start to what looks set to be an engaging group in this year's Europa League.
That's it from Roazhon Park tonight. Things got a little heated in the last ten minutes or so, so the return game in Glasgow should be an interesting watch. Until the next time, it's farewell from us.
