Cunha is also shown a yellow as we head into overtime, for simulation this time.
90' +5
Jorge Cuenca gets yellow.
Now Cuenca is booked as he drags back Suarez, Atletico determined to get the ball as far away from their own half as possible.
90' +3
Darío Poveda enters the game and replaces Florentino.
Y. Carrasco gets yellow.
Dario Poveda replaces Florentino in Getafe's third change of the game.
Carrasco is shown yellow as he looks to bring down a gung-ho Getafe attack before it can really cause the danger.
90' +2
With play back underway, we're having six added minutes - of which two have already gone. Surely it's too late for a final twist now?
90' +1
L. Suárez has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by Š. Vrsaljko.
90'
N. Maksimović gets yellow.
Maksimovic picks up a booking after he attempts to cut around Atletico's attackers with a few pulls in midfield. The free-kick is taken quickly.
Diego Simeone has got those changes spot on, hasn't he? It's Vrsaljko who supplies that ball this time, and again, it is timed wonderfully, catching the flagging Getafe defence at odds. A sucker-punch to match the hosts' opener at the end of the first half indeed.
GOAL! LUIS SUAREZ WINS IT FOR ATLETICO MADRID! 2-1! Oh, Getafe's hearts are broken in the final second of regular time! That is a cruel blow to concede. The striker is the man at the left post for the cross and it is a close header, angled just so to give nobody a chance of stopping that. It is like a balloon has been popped for the hosts.
88'
Cunha cannot believe he has just conceded a goal-kick following a silky attacking play, but the referee is firm that he had the final touch. Time is slowly running out - but there will surely be a few added minutes.
84'
Š. Vrsaljko enters the game and replaces H. Herrera.
Sime Vrsaljko replaces Hector Herrera in Atletico Madrid's fourth change of the game.
82'
No offence to Getafe but if there is a winner to be snatched here, it is surely for Atletico to take? They have one extra body on the pitch and all the momentum in the world. They are looking the business right now.
Minute
Description
78'
L. Suárez has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by Hermoso.
Hermoso will be delighted with that ball, but he'll be even happier that he timed it just so. A minute later and the short VAR check that follows would have done him and his side in. The goal stands.
GOAL! LUIS SUAREZ RESCUES ATLETICO MADRID! 1-1! The pressure has been telling for the handful of minutes since that red card, and now, the veteran striker has delivered the goods! While his fellow forward partner strays offside, he beats the trap and cruises into the box to meet Hermoso's cross, pushing a shrewd finish into the back of the net. Game on!
Jonathan Silva replaces Jaime Mata in Getafe's second change of the game.
77'
J. Silva enters the game and replaces Jaime Mata.
76'
Talk about some frantic defence! The ball pinballs around the Getafe box and several players have a stab at a shot. Soria parries two, and somehow, the hosts scramble it away in the scrum.
74'
Carles Aleñá goes off after a red card!
Getafe are down to 10 men! It is a straight red card for Alena, and this game takes a major twist with over a quarter-hour to go. Surely Atletico can smell a result now!
67'
E. Ünal enters the game and replaces J. Juan Macías.
Matheus Cunha enters the game and replaces A. Griezmann.
Matheus Cunha replaces Antoine Griezmann in Atletico Madrid's third change.
After all that, Enes Unal replaces Jose Macias in Getafe's first change.
66'
Carles Aleñá gets yellow.
J. Giménez gets yellow.
Alena meanwhile is booked for his part in the subsequent fracas.
Gimenez too is shown a yellow card, after he appeared to make intentional contact with the referee too in the middle of that scrap.
65'
Jaime Mata gets yellow.
It's all going off now! There's handbags at dawn after a nasty challenge involving Mata and Oblak on the edge of the latter's box spates a flurry of players pushing and shoving each other as the referee tries to regain control. The former is booked for the original challenge.
64'
H. Herrera gets yellow.
Herrera has picked up a booking following those substitutions too. Tempers are a little frayed here.
63'
Rodrigo de Paul replaces Renan Lodi in Atletico Madrid's second change of the night.
62'
R. De Paul enters the game and replaces Renan Lodi.
Hermoso enters the game and replaces K. Trippier.
Mario Hermoso replaces Kieran Trippier in Atletico Madrid's first change of the night.
58'
Macias strays offside hounding after a throughball now, to let Atletico off the hook for a moment though. Even as legs flag, the forwards for both teams continue to pound the metaphorical pavement.
56'
Griezmann goes for goal again - and this one is considerably more threatening, just a little bit below the killer instinct he so often shows. Getafe are starting to look a little winded as they hold shape.
54'
Down the other end, Atletico are forced to hurry the ball out of their own box after a dangerous effort from Getafe nearly unlocks them, allowed to land in free space with several opposition shirts lurking. A swift counter hits them hard, and they are back under the cosh a moment later.
50'
Carrasco gets felled by Iglesias now though, and suddenly, the prospect of set-piece danger is rife in the air. Getafe worked the aftermath of one to score earlier - can Atletico do the same?
48'
It's a hard push from the off for the visitors - they snap up back-to-back corners and leave Getafe's defence winded. The hosts hold them off however - for now.
46'
We're back underway in LaLiga for the second half. Will Atletico go guns blazing to get this one back in their favour, or can Getafe continue to frustrate them?
45' +2
HALF-TIME: GETAFE 1-0 ATLETICO MADRID
45'
J. Oblak is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
GOAL! STEFAN MITROVIC GIVES GETAFE THE LEAD ON THE STROKE OF HALF-TIME! 1-0! Superb scenes, absolutely superb scenes here! After Oblak spills the ball into the box following the set-piece, a half-hurried clearance comes out to Maksimovic. He pushes the ball back in with a cross and finds the defender, whose header crashes onto the left post and bounces in behind the goalkeeper!
That is a beauty of a ball from Maksimovic, weighted just so. What an effort to get the crowd on their feet - and right before half-time too!
43'
With less than five minutes or so until the break, it remains goalless. There's going to be a free-kick out on the left flank for Getafe though...
39'
That Suarez chance is comfortably the best of the game so far and Diego Simeone knows it. He actually did a little mad hop there when it was blocked. Getafe continue to work themselves around studiously.
35'
Getafe's supporters - who have been subjected to a rotten season so far - might have their fingers crossed for this one though. The break isn't too far away - and if they can hold on, it will give them a huge boost.
33'
After the roller-coaster of those opening few minutes, Diego Simeone's emotion is clear for all to see, which isn't exactly unusual to be fair. He's barking up a storm as his side continue to be stubbornly held here.
31'
Oblak with the save! He parries an effort away from Mata, but any finish would have been for nothing, as play is hauled back for a Getafe infringement.
30'
Back-to-back handball shouts at either end of the field - and neither are forthcoming. Firstly, Carrasco weaves a run and sees a deflection waved away as he shouts for a penalty; Trippier rides his luck a moment later after his arm blocks a shot in a sliding tackle.
26'
Macias hooks another one off-target, this time turned right from inside the area after some lovely build-up play. The hosts are getting themselves into the right places. Atletico's counter is again halted.
24'
Jose Macias pulls wide from outside the box and a strangled groan of encouragement barks itself out from the stands. Atletico swiftly counter but cannot find an opening this time.
22'
L. Suárez gets yellow.
The first yellow card of the game is out - and surprise, surprise, Luis Suarez has earned himself a booking. Chasing down a long ball, the Atletico man practically clatters Dakonam into next week. He protests but gets nothing.
20'
The set-piece is swung in - and skimmed over the crossbar! That's a close-run chance for Atletico, with several players vying in the scrum that puts the ball out in the end. They think Getafe had the last touch but there is no agreement from the referee.
18'
Lodi gets trimmed down out on the left edge as he looks to wrestle momentum back for the visitors now and that will win Atletico a dangerous free-kick. He will need some running repairs first though.
16'
A few misplaced passes almost invite Atletico to feast upon the Getafe midfield again, but to their credit, they spin it around and drive back down the opposite end again with some neat work.
14'
Having weathered that veritable flood in the opening stretch, Getafe have undoubtedly found an extra gear now. But there's definitely the sense that their visitors could flip up a level at any moment too.
12'
Getafe have a chance! It's a looping header, comfortably off-target from Maksimovic, in the wake of a cross floated in off the right, but they will take that. It is a promising sign.
10'
A slate of rare incursions into Atletico territory earns a partisan roar from the home crowd - but their delight turns to frustration after play is held for an injury to Gimenez, which checks their stride.
8'
Atletico slide a diamond of a throughball down that same right flank again and Getafe concede another corner. Some shoving in the box delays it - but the hosts clear their lines once more.
6'
Llorente is absolutely convinced that he should have a free-kick for a push in the back but none is forthcoming. Atletico do have a corner however - and Getafe win a free-kick in the box to escape.
4'
Atletico favour that channel again after Trippier puts them away. The offside flag takes the wind out of the move however and a Getafe pump down the other end eases the pressure momentarily.
2'
It's little surprise that the early pressure comes from the visitors. An early run down the right edge outflanks Getafe, but they manage to rescue themselves a throw-in before Suarez plays havoc.
1'
We are underway in La Liga, as Atletico Madrid face Getafe!
Movement on the bench suggests that changes are coming for the visitors as they continue to chase this. It looks like it could be Kieran Trippier who makes way...
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the 2021-22 LaLiga campaign, as reigning champions Atletico Madrid look to vault themselves back into pole position away to struggling Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
It hasn't exactly been the flying start envisioned by Diego Simeone's side, with the Primera Division title holders held to draws with Villarreal and Athletic Club. But now, they face a superb chance to get their still-unbeaten season back to winning ways.
In their way stands a side whose performances so far have suggested they will be in a scrap to avoid relegation at the tail-end of the term. But Jose Miguel Gonzalez will have his fingers crossed that the goals will come - and a strike against the champions would be something to savour today.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Kieran Trippier, Stefan Savic, Jose Gimenez, Renan Lodi; Angel Correa, Marcos Llorente, Hector Herrera, Yannick Carrasco; Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez.
GETAFE (5-3-2): David Soria; Juan Iglesias, Djene Dakonam, Stefan Mitrovic, Jorge Cuenca, Mathias Olivera; Florentino Luis, Nemanja Maksimovic, Carles Alena; Jaime Mata, Jose Macias.
Subs: Dario Poveda, Diego Conde, Ruben Yanez, Koffi, David Timor, Chema Rodriguez, Enes Unal, Allan-Romeo Nyom, Jonathan Silva.
Subs: Benjamin Lecomte, Ivan Saponjic, Javier Serrano, Felipe, Sime Vrsaljko, Mario Hermoso, Giuliano Simeone, Rodrigo de Paul, Matheus Cunha.
We're moments away from kick-off at Coliseum Alfonso Perez as the teams take to the field. Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez is the referee tonight.
There's going to be contrasting team talks for sure, but the biggest delight for Getafe will be that they have not been bowled over in this performance. For a side with five losses this term, this is a bright spark, even if it could end in a sixth reverse yet.
Poor Getafe. Poor Miguel Gonzalez. Up until the three-quarter mark of that match, they looked like they had every chance of seeing this one out, even as further changes and chances came. But that red card, coupled with some smart swaps from their opponents, undid them in the end. They remain seeking their first points of the term.
But Diego Simeone will be in party mood after that. His side have concerns, surely - the fact that they needed two late goals to salvage a win against a relegation contender is both compliment to their hosts and a detraction to themselves - but a victory is a victory and they'll take that every day of the week.
Both sides are back in action this weekend then, and on the road. Atletico will head to Alaves, while Getafe take the trip to Real Betis. Until then however, thank you for joining us - and have a great weekend!
