Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Champions League clash between Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City at Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund can secure their place in the knockout stage of the tournament with a draw. Die Schwarzgelben were held by Sevilla in their last Group G contest, but are just one step away from earning a round-of-16 berth. Edin Terzic’s men were beaten by a late Erling Haaland strike in the last meeting against City and will be keen to avoid another defeat at the hands of their former player. Dortmund have been up and down this season, although they come into the contest after hammering Stuttgart 5-0. Terzic will be looking for another clinical performance tonight.
City have already secured their spot in the round of 16, but were held in a frustrating draw against Copenhagen last time out after Sergio Gomez was dismissed. It was a rare blemish on their Champions League campaign so far, but they have sailed to the knockout phase without an issue. Pep Guardiola will be determined to shore up his side’s position at the top of Group G to secure a more favourable draw in the next round. His team were impressive at the weekend as two Haaland goals and a strike from Kevin De Bruyne delivered a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. However, it will be a tougher challenge tonight in a hostile atmosphere.
BORUSSIA DORTMUND SUBS: Marius Wolf, Anthony Modeste, Donyell Malen, Felix Passlack, Alexander Meyer, Tom Rothe, Luca Unbehaun, Soumaula Coulibaly, Antonios Papadopoulos.
MANCHESTER CITY (4-4-2): Stefan Ortega; John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Joao Cancelo; Riyad Mahrez, Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden; Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez..
MANCHESTER CITY SUBS: Jack Grealish, Aymeric Laporte, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Manuel Akanji, Ederson, Scott Carson, Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis. Josh Wilson-Esbrand.
Pep Guardiola will not be happy with his team. They've lacked their usual swagger in possession and have barely threatened the Dortmund goal. He might have to turn to his bench for a re-shuffle at the break.
Thanks for joining our commentary today. Until next time, goodbye.
Dortmund are next in action against Eintracht Frankfurt on the road in the Bundesliga on Saturday. City are also away against Leicester City in the Premier League on the same day.
