Petagna kicks off for Monza, and gets the game underway at Stadio Brianteo!
Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this Serie A fixture, as Monza welcome Inter Milan to the Stadio Brianteo.
Inter began their return from the World Cup in the best possible way, triumphing 1-0 over league leaders Napoli in their first game back. Edin Dzeko’s winner consigned Napoli to a first league defeat of the season, in a result that will give the Nerazzurri renewed hope of a title charge, having closed the gap to eight points.
Monza’s return to domestic football following the World Cup break saw them draw 1-1 with Fiorentina, with Carlos Augusto’s second half equaliser ensuring Raffaele Palladino’s side left La Viola with a point and sat in 15th place in the table.
INTER SUBS: Samir Handanovic, Alex Cordaz, Denzel Dumfries, Roberto Gagliardini, Stefan de Vrij, Robin Gosens, Joaquin Correa, Raoul Bellanova, Kristjan Asllani, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Valentin Carboni, Mattia Zanotti, Romelu Lukaku.
INTER (3-5-2): Andre Onana; Milan Skriniar, Francesco Acerbi, Alessandro Bastoni; Matteo Darmian, Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Federico Dimarco; Edin Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez.
MONZA (3-4-2-1): Michele Di Gregorio; Marlon Santos, Pablo Mari, Armando Izzo; Samuele Birindelli, Matteo Pessina, Jose Machin, Carlos Augusto; Patrick Ciurria, Dany Mota; Andrea Petagna.
The teams head out onto the pitch, and we're just moments away from kick-off here!
The teams return for the second half, and can hosts Monza find a way back into this game with another goal to shock their illustrious opponents?
MONZA SUBS: Alessio Cragno, Alessandro Sorrentino, Luca Caldirola, Andrea Barberis, Christian Gytkjaer, Mattia Valoti, Gianluca Caprari, Filippo Ranocchia, Valentin Antov, Andrea Colpani, Warren Bondo, Andrea Carboni, Leonardo Colombo, Marco D’Alessandro, Samuele Vignato.
A point apiece means there's little movement in the table for either side, although Monza have climbed a place to 14th. They're now nine points above the bottom three, and with performances as strong and defiant as the one we've just witnessed, the Serie A debutants are well poised to play a second consecutive season. Inter remain fourth, and are seven points from the top, but that gap could well widen with leader Napoli and third-placed Milan both having a game in hand.
That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until the next one, goodbye!
