Which Betting App Should You Download?
Find the quick answer below:
- You bet live, during the match. You want depth of in-play markets and a stream that holds up. → bet365
- You build accumulators every weekend. Enjoy the buzz and excitement that a combination has and has become a matchday ritual. → Sky Bet
- Looking for an alternative and modern experience →Midnite
- You want the best welcome offer to start with. → BetMGM
- This is your first betting account. Keeping things simple. → Ladbrokes
If you asked me which three I would keep on my phone, it would be bet365, Sky Bet, and BetMGM, as these align with my betting preferences.
Which Betting Apps Soccerway UK Users Actually Open
Each time a user clicks on an operator and views its odds pages on our website, Soccerway will use that data (and nothing else) to record how often those pages are opened. This allows us to create an accurate guide to the best betting apps and the most popular among British punters.
We have tens of millions of sports fans using our live score feature and clicking on the odds that are shown. This helps us have a solid data set to base our results on and sets us apart from generic comparison sites that simply tell you what they believe is best without supporting evidence.
Best Betting App for Each Use Case
I’ve looked at all of the apps that I use and have summarised my thoughts in the chart below with my reasoning to help you find the best one for a specific use you may have:
Our Top 10 UK Betting Apps in 2026
While there are many ‘Top 10 UK betting apps’ lists on the internet, it would be fair to assume hardly any of them have looked into many of the specifics that I’ve looked into. For instance, I’ve looked into the store ratings (checked on 24 August 2026) and compared them. The ratings aren’t the only thing that carries weight in my list; several factors are taken into consideration.
However, you’ll likely notice that ratings can vary widely for the same operator across the two main operating systems. I won’t pretend to know why; I can only offer my view on why that may be the case.
I’ll stress at this point that I’m an iOS user (always have been), and haven’t experienced Android before, but I’ve looked at the complaints to see what users have been saying.
The numbers. iOS 4.74 from 444,819 ratings, 58 MB, updated 24 August 2026. Android 4.6 from 260,000 ratings, updated 19 August 2026. The largest review base of any UK betting app by a wide margin, and one of only a handful that holds a high score on both platforms.
Key features. As an avid bet365 user and my go-to UK betting app, I rate this the best. The operator is widely known among British punters as the best all-rounder, offering in-depth markets and competitive odds across most mainstream and niche sports. For example, a Premier League fixture has hundreds of markets available to wager on, both pre-match and in-play. The cash-out feature is also excellent, available across most events and offering fair odds. It’s very simple to use and can be activated with a simple tap.
I find bet365 particularly excels in football betting and horse racing, with several promotions and live streams that enhance the overall experience. There are live streams for many football events, including German Cup football and the Austrian Bundesliga. English and Scottish football cannot be streamed due to broadcaster rights, but every operator is restricted by that. The same goes for horse racing, with live streams available across all races held domestically and internationally. Streams are free to access when logged in. In September 2026, live streams were available of all matches played at the US Open tennis Grand Slam.
I’ve not even mentioned the plethora of promotions available: winning bet builders can be boosted by 25% across football, golf, and tennis; 2-up early-payout football betting promos; 100% football acca boosts; and free-to-play tournaments and prizes, including Champions League tickets.
Why choose this app. Personally, I don’t think there’s a better bookie available, with the bet365 app helping to solidify their place in my rankings. You can do pretty much anything you want with the app that is conducive to a positive betting experience. If I had one complaint, I think the UX could be friendlier. I found it a little difficult to navigate at times, which new users may find challenging, particularly when wagering on live events.
bet365 pros and cons
- Enjoy updated odds, detailed in-game stats, cash-out, and more.
- New customers qualify for a welcome bonus free bet.
- Access the market's best odds on a long list of daily bets.
- Livestream, bet, collect bonuses, and contact customer care using the mobile app
- Some promos come with strict wagering requirements for existing customers.

Best for Accumulators and Best Android Experience
The numbers. iOS 4.67 from 78,354 ratings, 193 MB, updated 18 August 2026. Android 4.6 from 54,900 ratings, updated 6 August 2026. Worth pausing on that pair: a 0.07 gap between platforms is the tightest on this list, at a point where most apps drop half a point or more on Android.
Key features. A fan of accumulator betting, the Sky Bet betting app is the best for multiple bets. I like the BuildABet feature they include with many of their football events, which uses a system that is very easy to follow and takes only a few moments to complete. It also provides a breakdown of what a £10 bet would return as you add outcomes. If that weren’t enough, you can receive a 25% boost on winnings once you opt in to the promotion. You can also have a winning BuildABet if one leg fails you, thanks to its Ghost Leg promo.
The AccaFreeze feature is also unique to Sky Bet; this lets you lock in a winning scoreline on an acca of five legs or more while a match is live. That specific leg counts as a winner immediately, no matter how the match ends, thus maximising win potential. This can be used three times a week.
When looking at the ratings it has received, it has near parity across iOS and Android. This is almost unheard of for an unspecified reason, which makes it the best betting app for Android.
Why choose this app. I find the Sky Bet betting app very easy to use for my own acca betting, and it’s very responsive to each selection made. I think the ability to see what a £10 return would offer at a glance is a nice touch, and something that is very underrated elsewhere. I can’t comment on the Android version, but with the ratings so close, my read is that the same type of experience is available as on my iOS device. An annoyance I had was when logging in to my account, as the text boxes for entering my details were very slow and unresponsive at times.
Among the pros and cons Sky Bet has:
- Large range of betting markets and competitive odds.
- Ongoing promotions and games.
- Enhanced places on horse racing for each-way bets.
- Request a bet feature.
- Basic and uninspiring interface.
- Limited range of deposits available.

The numbers. iOS 4.75 from 45,708 ratings, 60 MB, updated 24 August 2026. Android 4.5 from 23,400 ratings, updated 17 August 2026. One of the smaller installs among the majors, at a sixth the size of Unibet.
Key features. In my opinion, the betway betting app is the one to beat when it comes to offering the best mobile experience. You can use it for all your sports betting needs, and I’ve also found you can do so much more. While using the app and playing around on the iOS version to get a better sense of what was available to me beyond betting, I found I could use the responsible gambling features with ease, without leaving the app.
The app is fast and responsive, reacting to my taps instantly. The bet slip isn’t invasive when a market is added, while you can drag it up to make edits or view it in full. A promotions tab is also available, which isn’t something you see at bet365, Sky Bet, William Hill, or BetVictor.
Why choose this app. Complaints have been made about being logged out when the app is closed or when switching between apps. I didn’t experience this in September 2026, nor did I find that I was logged out after a small time of inactivity. In fact, my only negative would be the lack of live streaming available, as this is a big part of a mobile betting app.
Betway pros and cons
- Users enjoy fast load times, which is useful when you're betting in-play.
- Face ID login works first time and helps keep your account safe.
- One-tap cashout means it’s easier than ever to end your bets early.
- Betway’s App Store rating is 4.8 out of 5, based on over 44,000 customer reviews
- The Betway desktop interface isn’t quite as good as the app.

The numbers. iOS 4.60 from 14,464 ratings, 200 MB, updated 17 August 2026. Android 4.4 from 5,290 ratings, updated 6 August 2026.
Key features. In September 2026, the BetMGM welcome bonus gives new players £40 in free bets when they deposit and bet £10 on a sports (excluding virtuals, esports, and horse racing) bet within 7 days. Minimum odds apply. You must use the free bets within 7 days; they consist of 2x £10 Football Accas and 2x Sports Multipliers.
While the welcome offer attracts many, the BetMGM betting app is just as solid as any other on my list and why it ranks as high as it does. It provides a positive sports betting experience, with all mainstream and niche sporting events catered to. Football betting is strong, with several markets available pre- and in-play, with special bets and promos to boot. I found Bet Builders available, as well as ‘Golden Sub’, ‘Golden Acca’, ‘Golden Goals’, ‘Acca Flex’, and ‘Early Payouts’ on top of the cash-out feature. The UX is positive, with a standardised layout that is easy to navigate.
Why choose this app. The UX is positive, with a standardised layout that is easy to navigate. New users wouldn’t have too many issues using this app, which I believe is always a huge plus when choosing one, given the difference it can make to the live betting experience. What I would complain about is that the BetMGM app could be better when it comes to customer support. The app forces you out to the website when using the FAQ, although live chat stays within the app.
BetMGM Pros and Cons
- Fair wagering requirements allow you to target a profit using the welcome bonus.
- Top football tab covering everything from the Champions League to lower leagues.
- The modern sportsbook interface - find, bet on and watch live football.
- Modern sportsbook lets you find, bet on and watch live football.
- Limited markets and live coverage outside football and US sports.

The numbers. iOS 4.74 from 263,120 ratings, 153 MB, updated 20 July 2026. Android 4.3 from 43,800 ratings, updated 19 August 2026. The second-largest iOS review base on this list.
Key features. Arguably one of the most recognised bookies in the UK, the Paddy Power betting app ranks highly because of the in-play specials they continue to offer with regularity. When switching things up and using the sportsbook for live football betting, I tend to go to PP because they have many markets that receive boosted odds, as well as the addition of the ‘Super Sub’ promo.
They have been known to pay out when a team goes 2 goals ahead before the final whistle. I didn’t find it available in September 2026, but it’s not uncommon for them to offer it.
Why choose this app. I think you should choose the Paddy Power betting app if you’re looking for a way to enjoy in-play football betting to its fullest. The app is extremely stable and secure, and responsive, making it an excellent choice for in-play markets. With boosts available on live odds, you’ll be able to use the promos quickly and with ease.
An annoyance for me with the app is that it can be a little more difficult to navigate than alternatives. I found myself trying to get back to the homepage but struggling to do so. I got the hang of it soon enough, but it could be frustrating for new users.
Reviewers of the app have shown to get confused with the cash-out feature, claiming it is “broken” or that the “price offered is unfair”. I’ve not noticed this in my experience using the bookie, although I can agree that the price is unfair (but as a punter, I’d always like more). When the cash-out feature has been offered, I’ve always found it works as it should.
Among the pros and cons Paddy Power has:
- Paddy Power offers standout specials, including free bets, cashback and boosts.
- Football price boosts were up to 25% bigger than rivals.
- Fast payouts on horse racing refunds and football early-goal specials.
- Excellent live football and sports coverage across the platform.
- In-play interface feels crowded, and cash-out can be slower than bet365.

The numbers. iOS 4.67 from 197,930 ratings, 148 MB, updated 17 July 2026. Android 4.3 from 32,800 ratings, updated 21 August 2026.
Key features. Personally, I like the market breadth that is offered on the William Hill betting app, with the operator seemingly covering every possible betting opportunity. I like the football betting markets offered, especially for top European leagues.
Whether I’ve been betting on English Premier League matches, Scottish Premiership fixtures, Spain’s LaLiga, or Italy’s Serie A, I’ve always found the app to offer pre-match and in-play markets that cover every possibility. While William Hill has a filter that lists the most popular first, you can find markets separated by in-game categories, such as corners, goals, players, cards, half, and others.
The betting markets are also labelled clearly; I can bet on the Match Result using the ‘90 Minutes’ market, or the ‘90 Minutes – 2 Up’ market and take advantage of the promo.
It’s not just football that receives this treatment; William Hill pulls out all the stops for horse racing, basketball, tennis, and more.
Why choose this app. I like the William Hill app because it has a professional feel, which enhances my sports betting experience. I feel confident using the app and have little trouble when using it. This seems to be in contrast to some reviews, as I read that some were critical of the betting slip interfering with the UX when building an acca. In my experience, I didn’t encounter any problems, so this may have been something William Hill has fixed since those reviews were made. An annoyance for me about this app is that it can be a little unresponsive to taps sometimes; I found you had to click twice on occasion.
William Hill Pros and cons
- Generous welcome bonus for new customers.
- Ongoing promotions for existing players.
- Fast and secure deposits and withdrawals.
- Live-streaming of major sports, including horse racing.
- A friendly and reliable customer care team.
- Some payment methods don’t qualify for the welcome bonus free bet.
- Not all sports are broadcast on the live stream.

The numbers. iOS 4.59 from 67,110 ratings, 47 MB, updated 17 August 2026. Android 4.5 from 16,000 ratings, updated 13 August 2026. The smallest install among the premium seven.
Key features. Betfred’s betting app ranks highly in my view for bettors who want an app that makes it easy to bet on in-play markets like goalscorers. When you click on a football event, many fixtures in the top European leagues will have the market available, showing a list of players with odds. You can add these markets to a Bet Builder or acca to maximise potential returns with ease, with just a tap required.
If there was a slight negative for me, it was only possible to bet on whether an individual player would be the first or last goalscorer. There wasn’t an ability to bet on them scoring anytime in the game, which you can do at bet365.
Permutation bets (multiples) are very strong at Betfred, with the operator offering bonuses in September 2026. You can multiply your odds on horse racing, greyhound, and virtual racing bets. Placing a Lucky 15 can see your odds increased by 3x, while a Lucky 63 offers a multiplier of 5x. You can still receive cash wins if only one winner, but all selections must run.
A bonus of 10% can also be won when placing bets of Lucky 15, Yankee; 20% on Lucky 31 and Canadian; 25% on Lucky 63 and Heinz. All winnings are paid in cash but require all selections to win. A 10% bonus can be won on horse racing and greyhound tricast bets if all selections win.
Betfred also offers Double Delight on Super League rugby bets when a pre-match wager has been made on the first tryscorer market in select 2026 games.
Why choose this app. The Betfred app is rated extremely highly by users on both iOS and Android, and I know why. It’s small and very compact, but it still performs as well as its competitors. I think the app offers everything you could want from a mobile sports betting session. My annoyance with it is related to the betting slip: an initial bet will make the slip take over the screen, rather than simply adding to it quietly. This can be slightly frustrating when trying to build your own bet quickly, although I liked that it was only the first selection, not each one.
Betfred pros and cons
- Betfred is home to the Sub Switch and Builder Bonus promotions.
- Lucky 15 enhancements give treble odds for 1 winner and double for all winners.
- Get same-day cash withdrawal at any Betfred high-street shop.
- Watch live racing and sports on the mobile app.
- The in-play interface lags noticeably on busy Saturday afternoons.

The numbers. iOS 4.66 from 98,388 ratings, 95 MB, updated 18 August 2026. Android 4.1 from 27,700 ratings, updated 29 April 2026. The Android build has gone four months without an update, the longest gap among the premium seven.
Key features. If you’re looking to download your first betting app, I’d strongly recommend Ladbrokes. The bookie’s app is designed with simplicity in mind, allowing users to switch between the various sports and in-depth markets available. It features a similar build and layout to Coral and Betfred, using a standardised UI that streamlines the entire experience. The app also contains everything you could want from a betting session, with a wide range of markets across several sports.
I’ve encountered many promotions when using the app regularly, and it’s worth noting that you can enjoy betting in the app and then walk into a physical store to withdraw any funds in cash; something that can also be done with Paddy Power.
Why choose this app. With its simple layout and design, the Ladbrokes betting app is very user-friendly and a great introduction to sports betting. Everything is easy to find through the use of prominent and accessible links, with the A-Z of sports and in-play options fixed in the footer a nice touch for instant betting.
Although I can’t speak to it from my own experience, the Android app appears to have been left alone by the bookie, as it hasn’t been updated in 4 months, whereas I used the iOS version in September. Whether this is intentional and simply because the iOS version needed a fix and the Android didn’t, or if the operator is focused on iOS more than its counterpart, I don’t know.
Ladbrokes advantages and disadvantages
- Ladbrokes is one of the oldest names in UK legalised sports gambling.
- £5 minimum deposit lets new players register, bet, and claim the welcome bonus.
- A simple interface, with no hidden menus and no multi-tab navigation.
- Presents many unique ways to bet, with great odds available on popular picks.
- Odds on markets like Premier League Asian handicaps are weaker than elsewhere.

The numbers. iOS 4.67 from 10,252 ratings, 138 MB, updated 21 August 2026. Android 4.4 from 3,740 ratings, updated 19 August 2026. A smaller review base than the established names, and both builds are updated frequently.
Key features. Midnite’s betting app makes sports betting simple with its interface. I like the fact that I can find many of my favourite sports markets within a few touches, especially as I’m a fan of live football betting.
When using the app, the one thing I noticed is that Midnite offers several bonuses and promotions. I was offered price boosts on football, horse racing, and tennis odds, as well as pre-set Bet Builders and accas. I also received a free £2 Bet Builder on the upcoming Premier League gameweek, although I needed to opt in to claim it.
The betting slip pops up immediately when a selection is made; it stays compact and doesn’t cover the screen, allowing you to continue browsing and make further selections when placing a multiple. It’s very quick, and odds are updated regularly, ensuring value.
Why choose this app. I think the Midnite app is great for those seeking a slightly more modern design and a little bored with the standard layout. While it has its familiar aspects, the interface brings a breath of fresh air, without compromising on other key areas of the sports betting experience. With that said, I remember having had a little frustration with it when I first used it; because I’m so used to the traditional layout, I found myself tapping where the casino options are in the footer when I wanted to go to the home page every so often.
Pros and cons of Midnite:
- The mobile-first interface puts sports gambling at your fingertips.
- Live odds refresh faster than those of several of the established names.
- Midnite’s fast, clean interface is especially popular with younger users.
- Football promotions include regular price boosts, acca offers, money-back deals.
- Ongoing promotions for existing players, including price boosts.
- Coverage isn’t as broad as bet365 or William Hill on niche markets.

The numbers. iOS 4.26 from 6,388 ratings, 312 MB, updated 17 August 2026. Android 3.9 from 14,400 ratings, updated 13 August 2026. At 312 MB this is the largest install on the list, five times the size of betway, and the only top-10 app under 4.0 on Android.
Key features. The Unibet app is jam-packed with special features that help to make it appear on my list of top 10 UK betting apps. It’s not just in sports betting, either, as there are many features that help make the experience positive all around.
I really like the emphasis on security when using the app; I can set up my account to be extremely secure by adding additional layers. While biometric logins are becoming more of a standard feature across betting apps, Unibet allows you to create 2FA (two-factor authentication) options, allowing you to link your app to your phone number or email address. It’s a small thing, but in a world where money and sensitive data are at stake, it’s a huge positive.
On the betting side, the app has many of the sports betting promos and features that have become standard across the industry, including Price boosts, Bet Builders, etc. However, what Unibet also offers that I’ve not seen elsewhere are promotions that reward punters when things don’t go their way. For instance, the ‘VAR Goal Guarantee’ is a great option for football betting, as bettors can still celebrate even if the goal has been disallowed, while the ‘Edit Bet’ allows you to keep adding to your bet slip before it has been settled.
Why choose this app. I chose this app for its unique features and offers, as well as its enhanced security options, and I believe you should consider it for these reasons, too. Unibet still offers a highly comprehensive sports betting experience that rivals the very best, and, if anything, they can provide you with more value thanks to the offers I noted above.
During my research, I found reviewers had left their annoyance at being asked for their date of birth on each login. In September 2026, I found this to be the case when I hadn’t set the biometric login feature. However, once I had, this was no longer an issue. I can understand why it’d be annoying, but it’s further security, which is a win in my book. A gripe I have is the app’s size, as it is the largest of any and takes up significant space; storage comes at a premium, so choosing this app may not be a choice you can make freely.
Unibet pros and cons
- Large number of sports and specials covered.
- Wide range of sports live streamed.
- Regular Odds Boosts offered.
- Fines relating to Responsible Gambling.
- Some niche odds not as great as other sportsbooks.
- Relatively basic customer service options are available.

Honourable Mentions
iOS 4.66 from 110,396 ratings, 186 MB. Android 4.4 from 24,900 ratings. The only major UK exchange with a native app on both stores. Worth flagging that Betfair leads the complaint counts in the review data below for both “slow or unresponsive” and “crashes”, with several reviewers tying it specifically to live matches.
Betfair is the world’s largest and most popular betting exchange, offering the highest liquidity and widest range of markets. While other options are emerging in the UK market, the Betfair app still ranks above them all and deserves an honourable mention.
It’s possible to argue that many bettors still don’t use betting exchanges; I very rarely do. Personally, and only a choice, I’ve always stuck with traditional bookies. Still, I’d never say not to use Betfair, especially if you’re looking to bet against other people rather than a traditional bookmaker, as they can offer higher odds, despite a small commission.
For the app itself, I find it very similar to many of the others I use. This is a positive, as it simplifies the experience. I read reviews that suggested there are performance complaints during exactly the moments when an exchange matters; I didn’t experience these on the small number of bets I’ve placed in the past, but I wouldn’t discredit them, as my personal sample size was small.
Pros and cons of Betfair:
- Players can bet against other punters rather than the house.
- Prices on liquid markets are often 2–5% better than fixed odds.
- Back a selection to win or lay a favourite to lose.
- Effortlessly switch between the exchange and sportsbook apps on your mobile.
- The exchange interface and concepts may seem confusing to beginners.

iOS 4.66 from 67,405 ratings, 99 MB. Android 4.3 from 12,400 ratings, though that build was last updated 30 April 2026.
With a physical presence on top of the app, Coral has always been a popular option for British punters, which is why I’ve included it as an honourable mention. The app is very simple and uses a traditional layout, which enhances the overall experience, allowing you to navigate to the sports/events you want to wager on within moments. The app also features many promotions and special bet types, including daily football coupons, which many will like. However, I wouldn’t say it offers anything unique to stand out on its own.
Pros and cons of Coral
- Free bet for new customers.
- Profit boosts for winning players.
- Free horse racing livestream.
- Instant deposits and quick withdrawals.
- Online security and privacy protection.
- Not all games are available to livestream.
- Some deposit methods don’t qualify for the welcome bonus.

iOS 4.71 from 1,386 ratings, and at 26 MB the smallest install of any app here. Android 4.5 from 482 ratings, last updated 20 March 2026.
Holding a USP, SpreadEx is the only operator to offer fixed odds and spread betting to British punters. Spread betting is a form of derivative trading that lets you speculate on whether a market’s price will rise or fall, without buying the underlying asset.
The app that has been built is solid, with several promotions available within the touch of a button. Everything is laid out in a user-friendly way, making it very easy to find what you want within a couple of moments. Live streams are also available within the app, which is a huge plus. The only thing that I would be wary of is the fact that they are the only operator in the UK to offer spread betting, so you can’t compare their app against anyone else in this regard. Still, a solid build in my view.
Among the pros and cons Spreadex has:
- Spreadex’s sports spread betting.
- A variety of live streams are available regularly.
- Various promotions available.
- Additional extras, including ‘Training Centre’.
- More sports could be available.
- E-wallet deposits unavailable.

iOS 4.74 from 2,657 ratings, 118 MB. Android 4.6 from 1,050 ratings. Small review base, but one of only three apps on this page that holds 4.6 or better on Android.
Social betting is arguably the next step for sports betting, with Dabble among the leaders. I’ve reviewed the site before and was impressed with what I saw and with what I received when I downloaded the betting app. So much so, I’ve used it myself after completing the review.
I like the ability to ‘follow’ other punters and replicate the bets that they make, as it gives an entirely new experience and you’re not relying on options that the bookies offer. There’s a lot to like, which is why I think it is reflected in the ratings it has received across the App Store and Google Play Store. Still, it’s only had a relatively small review base, but it’s clear it does well.
The pros and cons of Dabble:
- Good range of markets and odds
- Special features are available regularly
- Easy-to-use betting app
- Favourable withdrawal speeds
- Only mobile-based - webpage essentially a hub for support
- Limited deposit methods available

iOS 4.72 from 56,756 ratings, 241 MB, updated 24 August 2026. Android 3.0 from 4,340 ratings, updated 18 August 2026. Both builds are current, both come from the same operator, and they are rated 1.72 points apart.
In my view, BetVictor deserves an honourable mention, although I’m wary that there are evident concerns for one set of users. I’m an iOS user, and my view of the app is that it’s strong and offers everything you expect from a betting app. You can do everything in the app that you can on a desktop. It’s likely why it ranks highly in the iOS App Store. However, I also realise that the app doesn’t score as well on Android. I can’t say why, and the reviews I read don’t suggest why. They’re both by the same operator and are current; perhaps it’s just a different standard that Android users hold to iOS users?
BetVictor pros and cons
- Comprehensive market offering.
- Insightful Blog and Bet Calculator.
- Regular prizes with free-to-enter competitions.
- Limited live streaming.
- Standard offering that doesn’t provide unique features.

Apps That Did Not Make the List
I’ve taken the liberty to give you a complete picture when analysing the best betting apps. It’s only right to tell you about those that didn’t make my list and give you the reasons why, especially when there were five that I came across in my research that could have been named.
Hot Streak is one of those that didn’t make my list, simply because there isn’t a betting app available. They have an app dedicated to casino gaming and slots, last updated in October 2024. It is also only available on Android, with no iOS option. It should never appear on a sports betting apps guide, which is why it’s not on mine.
7bet is another operator that shouldn’t appear, as they don’t have a downloadable app. They can be accessed via a mobile browser, but there isn’t an app. A quick Google search for the ‘7bet app’ will bring up a Play Store link, but it’s broken and doesn’t return any results.
Betzone has been defunct since its closure in December 2025. They closed down their operation in the UK, despite keeping the betting site domain live. However, you cannot wager on sports on it.
Highbet’s betting app hasn’t received a lot of ratings, so it’s hard to say where this one ranks. It only has 17 iOS ratings and 11 on Android, which isn’t enough to go on when trying to give you a general overview of an app rather than just my singular opinion.
Grosvenor Sport has a betting app, but there are major discrepancies between the iOS and Android versions. Neither of them has been updated since September 2025, which is an exceptionally long time for an app to go untouched, let alone in an industry that requires high-level security features.
While the app offers a good UX on iOS, there’s something about the lack of security measures; no biometric login is available, which perhaps goes back to the lack of updates. The ratings for each app are also a concern: 4.28 on iOS and 2.10 on Android. I can’t explain why this is the case with Android devices, as I use iOS, and no one has specifically explained why, but it’s enough to be a concern.
Best Betting App by Sport
Best App for Football Betting
My pick for the best football betting app is and always has been bet365. It’s my go-to, with the operator offering an unrivalled service. In my opinion, there aren’t many who come close to the number of diverse markets offered across events, nor to the total number of competitions that can be wagered on. I also think they have some of the best football promotions available, including the ‘Super Sub’, ‘2-up early payout’, and acca boosts. Winning bet builders can also receive cash boosts, which is a nice touch that isn’t offered everywhere.

Best App for Horse Racing
For me, William Hill is the best horse racing betting app, despite its overall low score. Although that’s not defensible, I do think the horse racing section of the operator is too strong for the app to be rated as low as it is. At William Hill, you can receive a price boost on every UK/IRE race each day, and enjoy the Best Odds Guaranteed on all races in the UK/IRE from 8am each day. Price Boosts are available across future markets and specials, and all races can be live-streamed from within the app. Further information about each race comes from Racing Post, which is another added bonus and makes William Hill the top app for horse racing in my view.

Best App for Cricket
The top cricket betting app for me is the Betway app. They cover a host of global matches with decent market depth. Where the bookie arguably excels in cricket betting is that you can enhance your bets in several ways; punters can create bet builders across most fixtures, while the cash out feature can also be used across many eligible events. Live data and statistics is pushed through, helping you to make informed decisions.

Best App for Tennis
I know I noted bet365 for its football offering, but I would also highlight it as my top pick for tennis betting; it’s my top overall betting app after all.
The bookie offers a huge range of markets and odds at any time, and most events, including the major Grand Slams, can be streamed in-app. You can place bet builders by creating your own or using pre-made options, while winning accas can be boosted. A ‘Tennis Retirement’ bonus can also be obtained, which allows you to get your selection paid as a winner if their opponent retires hurt.

Best App for Boxing and MMA
BetMGM has the best app for boxing betting and MMA betting in my opinion. The bookie covers punters with fights happening worldwide, offering competitive odds and much greater depth than competitors like Betfred. Some fights have more markets available than others, including ‘Total Rounds’, ‘Fight Go The Distance’, and ‘Bout Betting’. Some bookies only offer outright winner markets until the last minute.
BetMGM offers betting across UFC and ONE FC promotions in MMA, with many futures available. Events can come with multiple markets that allow you to maximise value through multiple betting, although it’s still worth keeping an eye on them in the lead-up to the fight, as more markets become available.

iOS vs Android: What Actually Differs
While this might be obvious at a surface level regarding the build, the best betting apps should all work the same way. They should all be able to provide users with seamless betting experiences without flaws. However, when I did my research, I found many discrepancies between them in their ratings. In fact, iOS apps appeared to score more favourably in terms of ratings compared to their Android counterparts.
Across the 23 UKGC-licensed operators with an app on both stores, the mean iOS rating is 4.45 against 3.89 on Android, and iOS scores higher for 21 of the 23. The thing is, the scores aren’t even marginal; there are some that are glaringly massive:
I won’t pretend and say I know the answer. Every user is unique, and they likely have different reasons; some may have left bad ratings after a negative betting experience, not having read the bookie’s T&Cs when making a withdrawal or claiming a bonus, etc. Others may have simply rated the app with a generic star rating because they do for all apps.
We read 2,292 public store reviews looking for a cause, and we didn’t find anything related to the app that would highlight the differences. For talkSPORT BET, Grosvenor Sport, and Betano, the reviews we actually read do not reproduce the gap, and, in Betano’s case, the iOS reviews were harsher. Whatever drives it sits in the star-only ratings, which carry no words.
My advice is to test each app yourself and judge it based on your own experience. You don’t typically have to log in when you download the app, and they’re all free. You can “play around” with the build and get a feel for how it works without placing a bet. I cannot tell you anything about Android apps, as I’ve only ever used iOS devices. Don’t just go by the star rating, as it doesn’t always reveal the whole picture.
How to Download a UK Betting App
To download a UK betting app is very straightforward. You simply need to go to your app store, search for the bookmaker you want to use, and download the app. There are costs associated with downloading betting apps, as the store requires them to be free to download.
All major UK sportsbooks will have a dedicated app available on the App Store and Google Play Store. Many guides can still be outdated and provide information about sideloading an app (.APK files). This is no longer required and shouldn’t be done. It opens you up to potential scams.
bet365 is on Google Play in the UK today, published by Hillside Technology Limited, and so are Sky Bet, Betfair, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Coral, William Hill, Betfred, Unibet, BetVictor and the rest of the licensed market.
Why every betting app is free, and why that is not a feature
Betting apps are free due to the guidelines in place.
Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines require real-money gaming apps to be licensed for the territory they operate in, geo-restricted to that territory, and free in the store. Google Play prohibits gambling apps from being sold as paid apps or using Play in-app billing, and requires the developer to hold a licence for every country the app is distributed in.
As noted, there’s no benefit to a betting app being “free” in the UK; it’s simply something that is required. If a page tries to highlight that as a selling point, it’s worth taking with a pinch of salt and not taking it too seriously.
Geo-restrictions and travelling
Given the strict rules and regulations around sports betting worldwide, you can often go abroad and find that your betting app no longer works. This is normal, as the App Store and Google Play require apps to be geo-restricted to the territories in which the operator is regulated.
Many users are often critical of an app because it may suddenly “stop working” when they go on holiday. It’s not due to a bug or glitch; it’s due to the restrictions in place.
On a recent holiday to Spain, I found the Grosvenor Sport app wouldn’t allow me to do anything while I was there. I couldn’t get beyond a page that basically said I wasn’t allowed to use them. By contrast, my bet365 app would work as usual, although I noticed it had become localised to Spain in terms of the language and currency used.
If there is no native app
While most UK major bookies have a betting app, you can come across sites that still don’t have a native app. As long as the operator is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, the web browser is still safe to use and will typically offer an optimised service that has been streamlined.
However, what you will miss out on are features that can enhance sports betting sessions. For instance, you may not receive push notifications when betting on live football matches, or you may not have additional security features built into the app, such as biometric login. You may also need a stronger or more stable internet connection to access the web version, all of which can impact a betting session.
What UK Bettors Actually Complain About
I’ve read many reviews on betting apps and Trustpilot over the years, and very few are actually about the app’s quality and build. Many will focus on the negatives regarding T&Cs for bonuses or KYC checks, etc.
Indeed, this is something I found having read 2,292 public store reviews across the 23 apps available on both platforms. During my research, I categorised the 1,231 that rated an app three stars or lower and highlighted the supposed faults and complaints that users reported. As a disclaimer, I’ve not verified these.
It’s worth noting that there are differences in how reviews are reported. Google Play text reviews skew far more negative than the aggregate score. bet365 holds a 4.6 on Play, but the 100 most recent text reviews average 3.05. The two stores also select reviews differently, with Apple surfacing a handful of longer, curated ones and Play showing the newest ones.
The themes I found to be common have been listed below, with the number of reviews and operators named most often:
A complaint I found that had more “concrete” evidence of having happened concerned forced logouts.
A BetUK user reported being logged out every 10 minutes when using the app. I found this to be true; I was logged out after just a couple of minutes of inactivity and outside of the app. I did find that I could log in by using Face ID on my iPhone, and my email/password could be saved for auto-complete. When this was lacking, it was a notable complaint in the past, but BetUK appears to have sorted it.
Betway was also reported to have the same issues; I didn’t experience them when using the app on 2 September 2026 on an iOS device.
Regarding the bet slip complaint, I was intrigued. I checked out the William Hill betting app first and found that the wording of the complaint was perhaps slightly wrong. When making an accumulator, the bet slip would stay at the bottom of the screen and continue to build. I could then edit my selections by opening the bet slip and setting my stake, etc. This was the only time I found it to “cover the screen”.
At BetVictor, the initial selection opens the betting slip. However, you can close it quickly and continue adding selections without it opening automatically. I can understand the frustration, but it’s a quick second to fix. This was exactly the same with the Grosvenor Sports betting app.
As I continued to review the list of commonly received complaints, I also found the one about the cash-out feature interesting. Reviewers use “cash out is broken” and “the cash out price was unfair” interchangeably, but those are different complaints: one is more of a technical issue, while the other is a pricing decision the user didn’t like. While I can support the second one as a punter, I didn’t find any technical issues with the cash-out feature in the betting apps I use. It’s likely they wrote it was “broken” because it wasn’t offered on a particular bet.
Unsurprisingly, the single largest complaint was about the welcome offer; of the 2,292 reviews left, 272 were written to dispute it in some way, with the opt-in part of the T&Cs being the most frequently discussed. You can read our betting bonuses page for more info and how to make sure you avoid making this error.
What Our Assessment Is Based On
Our assessment is as honest and factual as you should be able to expect. Many best betting app reviews and guides will often use generic (accurate) information, but there isn’t any reasoning behind the views, or they don’t provide the entire picture.
At Soccerway, we place an emphasis on ensuring our readers know everything they need to know (and more)! To achieve this, I’ve conducted extensive research before curating this guide, including verified data from each app store.
Checked on 24 August 2026, all information is published as accurately as possible. This includes iOS and Android ratings with review counts, iOS app size, the minimum OS version, and the date each build was last updated for all 26 of our UK bookmaker partners. Ratings are always reported per platform, and never merged. Android app sizes are not published on Google Play’s web listings, so we do not report them instead of trying to estimate what they may be.
I’ve looked at the public reviews left on each betting app in each respective store, going through all 2,292 reviews. This is what allowed me to categorise them and then identify the 1,231 that had been rated as three stars or lower.
You can trust what I say, as I am an active user of these apps and have verified many of the complaints myself through my testing and personal experience. I have used betting apps for 8+ years, having been a sports betting enthusiast and content writer. I use them for different things, whether it be betting on football or horse racing (my two favourites), other sports, research, or to identify new promos and keep tabs on UX.
I’m not assessing things like withdrawal speeds; these are already covered in their own detailed articles, with bet365 withdrawal times an example. Nor am I making untruthful claims about battery consumption, in-play odds latency, or other technical facets that I can’t accurately test; I’m simply focusing on the betting app and its UX, ensuring you receive the most accurate views on them, backed by evidence and personal use.

Is This App Safe? Checking the Licence and Spotting a Fake
A common question, but one bettors shouldn’t really need to ask anymore.
Most major bookmakers in the UK will offer a legitimate sports betting app for free on the App Store or Google Play. There aren’t many (if any) that provide external links or downloadable files to sideload onto your device anymore. The software isn’t malicious and is provided in accordance with the app store’s guidelines and the UKGC licensing rules they must follow as an operator.
However, it’s not unwise to keep your wits about you when it comes to downloading an app. There can be lookalike listings and fake store pages that mimic the real thing. If you’re not careful, they can very easily fool you and become a serious problem.
It’s not just me saying this; I found two live Google Play listings in the UK are titled “Aviator Betway App”, published by a developer unrelated to Betway and rated PEGI 3, a content rating no real money gambling app can hold. Security researchers at Malwarebytes also documented fake App Store and Google Play pages in March 2026 pushing web apps dressed up as gambling apps and funnelling users to unregulated operators.
As a disclaimer: I’ve not verified any specific listing is malicious. All I’ve done is verify that there can be brand confusion and that options exist within official channels. You simply need to be careful and check, double-check, and triple-check what you’re downloading is legitimate.
You can achieve this by following my five top tips:
Read the developer name on the listing
bet365’s app is published by Hillside Technology Limited. If a well-known bookmaker’s app is published by a name you have never heard of, close it.
Check the content rating
A UK real money betting app carries PEGI 18 or 17+. PEGI 3 on a betting app means it is not a betting app.
Reach the app from the operator’s own site
Follow the download link from the bookmaker’s domain instead of searching the store.
Verify the licence
Every UKGC licensee must display its licence details, and you can check the account number against the Gambling Commission’s public register. If the in-app details do not match the register, that is your answer.
Treat any prompt to install from outside the store as a stop signal
All the major UK apps are on both stores.
Each of these will take just a few moments to complete; doing so can save you a lot of potential heartache.
If something goes wrong
There can be a time when you may find that you need to raise a dispute. The most common reason for this is a settled bet you feel was handled incorrectly. For example, an outcome may have been deemed the opposite to what you believe happened.
When you dispute this, some operators may allow you to do this through the betting app. The operator can take up to 8 weeks to go through its own complaints procedure and investigate what’s happened. If it still hasn’t been resolved, it can be escalated to an alternative dispute resolution provider. UKGC rules require operators to answer an ADR provider’s request for information within 10 working days.
The main body is IBAS, which is free for the bettor to use. To reach a decision, an average time of 8 to 10 weeks can be expected, although this may be quicker in some instances. Still, you have 40 days to appeal to them, but the dispute must be less than a year old. Up to £10,000 can be claimed.
Responsible Gambling Tools on Betting Apps
The major UK betting apps will provide access to responsible gambling tools, as per the conditions of their UKGC licence. The UK Government and Gambling Commission has made it a priority to protect players from harmful gambling, which has seen the introduction of various tools.
When you sign up, you’ll likely be prompted to set a deposit limit. Although optional at this time, I strongly recommend using it to keep yourself from depositing more than you can afford to lose or too often in a short space of time.
All of the betting apps I have used recently, including bet365, William Hill, BetVictor, Ladbrokes, and Betway, allow you to make changes within the app with ease. Don’t be alarmed; some apps may push you to their websites. As long as you’ve downloaded it from the right place and have carried out your checks, you’ll be fine.
Other responsible gambling tools include time-outs, which let you have the betting app log you out for a set period. Within the Betway app, you can set session reminders of 15-minute increments up to an hour to help you manage your time more responsibly. The Betway app also lets you use GamCare’s self-assessment feature; you’ll be taken to the charity’s official site.
Self-exclusion is an important tool offered by UKGC-licensed betting apps, but it is one that is most misunderstood. As a bettor, you can set the period of time in which you are blocked from the operator’s portfolio of sites, with the minimum varying between 6 and 12 months.
If you feel you need longer, Gamstop is available. The exclusion offered by Gamstop applies across every UKGC-licensed gambling website and app for UK residents, including Northern Ireland, with periods of six months, one year or five years. However, you need to be aware of the following:
A Gamstop exclusion does not lapse when your chosen period ends, and Gamstop will not remind you. If you do not contact them to end the exclusion, it will remain for a further seven years. To remove it, you must sign in to your account once the initial exclusion ends and actively request removal. You can do this by contacting the online chat or Gamstop phone number: 0800 138 6518. A 24-hour cooling period will also apply before any changes are made active.
The seven-year follow-on is deliberate; the UKGC has conditions within its licence that state operator-level self-exclusions must continue for a minimum of seven years unless the customer takes positive action to resume gambling.
In the UK, it’s also possible to talk to someone and receive professional help if you feel you’re in trouble. GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline, which is free to contact 24/7, with live chat and WhatsApp options also available. You can call them on 0808 8020 133. Alternatively, GambleAware at gambleaware.org offers advice and a route into further help.
Both are advised as a resource to use once gambling stops being a form of entertainment and starts to control your livelihood.

FAQ
What is the best betting app to use?
Bet365 is the best betting app. They offer a comprehensive service that ticks all the boxes sports betting should.
What is the best betting app in the UK?
Bet365 is the best betting app in the UK, as you can enjoy a complete betting service with the operator. Still, I wouldn’t recommend it to those who are seeking an alternative betting experience, such as social betting or spread betting.
What is the best paying betting app?
No betting app pays out more than another. Payouts depend on the odds set and your stake. Bookies can have limits, but it won’t stop them from paying out. Fast payouts are available at bet365, BetMGM, and BetVictor.
Is bet365 better than Paddy Power?
I think bet365 is better than Paddy Power. My view is that bet365 offers better odds across many sports, including mainstream options, than Paddy Power; Paddy Power arguably offers more promotions. On store ratings, they are close: bet365 is 4.74 on iOS from 444,819 ratings against Paddy Power’s 4.74 from 263,120, and 4.6 against 4.3 on Android.
Which betting app is best for beginners?
Ladbrokes has the best app for beginners; it uses a traditional layout that is very user-friendly and allows users to navigate with ease. Everything is so simple.
Are betting apps free?
Yes, and by design. Apple requires real money gaming apps to be free on the App Store, and Google Play prohibits paid gambling apps and in-app billing for them. A free download says nothing about whether the app is any good.
Which betting app is best on Android?
Sky Bet is judged to be the best on Android by star rating. It scored 4.6 from 54,900 ratings, and it is the only top-tier app whose Android rating is within 0.1 of its iOS score. In comparison, most apps drop by half a point or more when compared to their iOS version for unknown reasons.
Why are betting apps rated lower on Android than iOS?
It isn’t known. I don’t have a read as I haven’t used Android apps and haven’t heard or read anything specifically about their build that would suggest why. Across the 23 UK apps on both stores, the mean is 4.45 on iOS and 3.89 on Android, with iOS higher for 21 of them. We read 2,292 reviews looking for the cause, and it is not in the text.
Can I download a betting app outside the app stores?
It is not recommended, as it isn’t required. All major UK bookmakers have apps listed on the App Store and Google Play Store.
Which betting app has the best welcome offer?
BetMGM has the best current offer: new players receive £40 in free bets when they deposit and bet £10 on a sports (excluding virtuals, esports, and horse racing) bet within 7 days. The free bets consist of 2x £10 Football Accas and 2x Sports Multipliers, which offer potential value from different bet types that not all punters may usually place.
How do I check a betting app is licensed in the UK?
Open the app’s licence details, then check the account number against the Gambling Commission’s public register. If they do not match, or the app has no licence details, it is best to avoid it completely.
