We're under way at St James' Park.
Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Tottenham at St James' Park.
Newcastle have a huge chance today to shore up their credentials for a Champions League place next season. The Magpies have been outstanding over the course of the campaign, but put in arguably their worst performance in a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa last time out. Eddie Howe's men still lead Tottenham by three points in fourth place, and can extend the gap to six points with only six games remaining in the term. The contest could be season-defining for both teams.
Tottenham had a huge chance to close the gap to Newcastle last week, but were beaten 3-2 at home by Bournemouth. Spurs cannot seem to get out of their own this term, and interim boss Cristian Stellini needs to rally his team for the biggest game of the campaign. The mood surrounding the club is at a low ebb indeed, with Davinson Sanchez booed off by sections of his own fans last week. Despite all their troubles, a win for Tottenham would move them level with Newcastle in the final Champions League place.
NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-3-3): Nick Pope; Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Dan Burn; Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock; Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak, Joelinton.
NEWCASTLE UNITED SUBS: Martin Dubravka, Jamaal Lascelles, Anthony Gordon, Callum Wilson, Matt Ritchie, Matt Targett, Javier Manquillo, Miguel Almiron, Elliot Anderson.
TOTTENHAM (3-4-3): Hugo Lloris; Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Pape Sarr; Pedro Porro, Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ivan Perisic; Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min.
TOTTENHAM SUBS: Davinson Sanchez, Richarlison, Arnaut Danjuma, Fraser Forster, Japhet Tanganga, Ben Davies, Clement Lenglet, Alfie Devine, Romaine Mundle.
Tottenham were embarrassing in the first half and are simply playing for pride, if they can even salvage that. It is certainly a day to forget for Cristian Stellini and his team.
Thanks for joining our commentary today. Until next time, goodbye.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday in the Premier League. Newcastle face struggling Everton on the road, while Tottenham host Manchester United.
